Just a great business.
We ate there twice. We ordered pepperoni pizza twice and it was delicious. The staff were nice. However, we wanted to try labne and mint tea and they didn’t have neither for both visits. I wish that they would provide everything in the menu. Other than that, food was good. More...
Swarma sooo good and their bread is delicious
Long wait but the food was amazing! Super smooth hummus and delicious shwarma.
Absolutely some of the best food around, and great people.
This is an amazing place. I haven't had anything to speak of that was below par. The falafel is so good and perfectly spiced, the menu is easy but extensive. Go here. It will become your new favorite. More...
Delicious shawarma. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The hummus and sauces were amazing. There was only one person working so it look him a while but it was worth the wait. PS parking is tight and tables are few. More...
I heard this was a hot or miss place for food quality, but that was so wrong. It's good every time! They're so are so amazing too. I like to take them home for next day lunch. More...
Amazing customer service He was so kind when I told him it was my first time, and he went over the menu with me. Everything I ordered was wonderful!

Fabulous food and service.
Great middle eastern food! Awsome tzeki, great swarma and deserts. Can't wait to go back!
Best naan bread in Maine! Most delicious hummus and appetizers. A jewel in the neighborhood. All it needs is a sitting area outside.
The food served here is a labor of love and it shows. The food is flavorful, authentic, the portions are big and it doesn't cost a lot. If I didn't live 2 hours away is be here all the time More...
Heard about this place from a friend and had to check it out. Service was fantastic and employees were very friendly. We got the spicy cayenne hummus, dolmas, pita bread, and the beef shawarma and beef and lamb kabob.
Excellent excellent quality food!!! Will definitely return if I visit Portland Maine again!!
Grear middle eastern food. The pita bread is terrific!
Can't wait to go back to try more from the menu.

My partner and I hired Ameera to cater our wedding and we couldn't have been happier! Ahmed and his staff were absolutely the best to work with, and the food was an absolute hit! Great flavors, amazing variety and options to satisfy our guests dietary requirements. We love Ameera! More...
Best Gyro and hummus in town. The wonderfully baked bread makes the sandwich. Recommend take out.
Food is amazing! Flavors are unreal! Never knew hummus could taste so good
You're probably not going to find Ameera bread on any of those lists that the rest of the country like to make about the Portland food scene. Which is fine: the tourists can have those crowded, expensive spots. I'll stick to places like Ameera. Hole in the wall? Sure is. Hidden gem? That too. Serving up some of those authentic Middle Eastern and Mediterrean food in Maine? Without a doubt. This is probably my favorite falafel in the city. It's moist and flavorful, comes on their mouthwatering house-made flatbread with hummus, veggies, pickles, onion, and your choice of sauce (get the tzatziki or mango; or both! they're sooooo good. the sauce comes on the side, FYI). It's under $8 and is FILLING. Also good? The the muhamara, the tabouleh, and the makdoos. Oh, and if you're super hungry, for $15 you can get a meal: a sandwich, fries, hummus, pickled veg, two dolmas, and a drink. It's A LOT of food. A lot of really, really delicious food that is.There's limited parking directly in front of their store (like two or three spots), so your best bet is to park directly on Forest Ave instead. Also, this is takeaway food not a dine-in spot (there's one table with a few seats) - annnnnnd, you can order online ahead of time. Lots of premade stuff in their cooler and freezer, too, so if you're on your way to a party and you forgot to pick something up - grab a dip and some pita here and be the star of the show! More...
The best falafel I have ever had
One of the last places remaining to get truly amazing shawarma in the city of Portland. They have a cozy sitting space, but their strengths definitely lie in quickly preparing large quantities of delicious Cuisine to take out. Especially good for picnics and get-togethers. More...
Must eat here! I had the Ameera falafel wrapped in fresh naan, the makdous- fermented stuffed pepper holy cow yum! And baklava. Suck unique flavors, such a fun dining experience! Loved watching the chefs making naan and the owner was generous and warm. They also have coolers full of homemade products to take home. Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes! More...
We love their food! Today we were lucky enough to be there for naan fresh from the oven!
Superb, just superb. Authentic and tasty. Best Gyro I've had on the east coast. Falafel is fresh as fresh can be.

The best hummas I have ever had. You will never buy it from the grocery store again. Its a tiny place on forest ave accross from Domino's pizza. You have to watch for the sign or you will miss it. More...

Great food. Never had this good of food!!!!!!
I Love the food.
This place is great and easy on the wallet! I ordered through 2dinein (also, always a good experience) and got the meal deal. For less than 15 bucks I got a lamb/beef gyro, fried, pickles veggies, two dolmas, a generous portion of hummus, a small dessert (Burma, I believe) and even a can of soda! Wow, what an amazing deal. Food is really good, the gyro is tasty with soft bread and flavorful meat, and it came with a delicious tzatziki on the side that was full of garlic and a tart bite. Pickled veggies were great, crunchy and yummy! Hummus was super creamy. The fries were your average run of the mill fries but I wouldn't expect anything more considering this is a Mediterranean restaurant. I also got a side of falafel which was very tasty, dry, but super crispy on the outside and would I love to try the sandwich sometime. This place is a great deal with awesome food! More...
Longtime fan, great food and with groupons, an excellent bang for the buck.
This place is awesome. Whenever I'm in the Woodford's area of Portland, which is rarely, I stop in this place. I used to go to Hagerty's before they closed and I walked by and smelled this place from the street. I skipped Hagerty's and went in here instead. Best choice. Love the fresh cooked bread.....and everything else. I have never had a bad meal from this place. Friendly staff too. More...
This place is such a hidden gem. I'll be honest, it doesn't look great from the outside. BUT if you can get past that the food is really good. I've never had hummus this good in my entire life. Seriously, I start eating it and I just can't stop until it's gone. I highly recommend the dill and thyme hummus with a piece of their pita bread. You will not be disappointed! The only reason I rate 4 instead of 5 stars is simply that I do find their food to be somewhat over priced, and some of the staff are unable to answer your questions due to language barriers. Although it certainly shows you the authenticity of the food, it can be difficult to ask questions! More...
We stopped by for a snack on our way to Acadia park. The kabab and falafel were authentic and tasty. Also they offer Iraqi bread and maqdoos which is must to try. The only comment I have, the bread wasn’t fresh. Definitely, I will stop by every time I am in the area. More...
Friendly staff, great food and prices. Awesome place!
My absolute favorite place to eat in Portland. So delicious.
Love that bread!
The food and service are phenomenal. There are two tables and plenty of standing room (you don't have to wait outside like at many other places in Portland). I've had the shwarma, gyro, and falafel meals, and a naan; I would eat them all again! The meal comes with hummus, tzatziki (or other sauce), French fries with a delicious spice blend (maybe za'atar), dolma, and pickled beets. I usually hate dolma, but these weren't too bitter. I refuse to buy hummus from anywhere else now because it's so smooth, creamy, and tastes like they don't take shortcuts. The owner was so friendly when we came in too, we're definitely coming back. More...
For such a tiny hole in the wall little place, the food is ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE!! Best shawarma in town!
I often go to the Forest Ave location for the bread and the falafel. I was happy to see this location and thrilled at the lunch special. I had a wonderful gyro. I did wish for some additional sauce and a tad more lettuce. The gyro was big enough for 2, it came with stuffed grape leaves a piece of baklava and a beverage of choice. The have added a couple nice seating areas downstairs that made it more welcoming. More...
Had to bring my husband here after a great first experience a few months ago. I love Gyros and being from NY I grew up with some really good middle eastern food. Being my husbands first time he got 10% off of his order! We both ordered Gyros as well as seasoned beef appetizers. I love the cucumber sauce here, seasoned just right and the meat is seasoned perfectly as well. The naan bread was selling very well while we waited for our food. They have a nice selection of side salads and soups to add to your sandwich or meal. There are only two tables one with two chairs and the other with three chairs, there were a few of us there to eat in but sadly there was no room for us all. We ha to take ours to go home to eat. It took a while for our sandwiches, we hit at a popular time of day I guess. The Gyros did not disappointment nor did the seasoned beef. We will return! More...
They catered a lunch for our non-profit and everyone at the party loved the food! It was so fresh, delicious, and great quality!
again and again and again and again ... great bulk breads on top of a loaded gyro!!!
I had the beef/lamb Shawarma and man it was tasty. On the side I had Naan and Sumac seasoned hummus and it was fantastic. All made there. Definitely recommend a visit if you like middle eastern food. More...
All time favorite.
The best lamb gyro I ever had, including food stands and mobile trucks in NYC. My exchange student from Bahrain said it was the best shawarma she had in the US. The proprietor is very friendly and although it was very busy our food was delivered quickly. Definitely try it out! More...
Wow! I can't believe how many timrs I have driven by this gem and not ever eaten anything. I spent my entire pregnancy with my baby craving hummus platters..so why I never thought to order from here is beyond me. Its fresh, fresh, FRESH tasting and so full of subtle flavors in everything that we ordered. We were hungry when I was ordering online and so I may have gone SLIGHTLY overboard...got two qyro plates, baba ganoush, pickles, hummus, and an extra pack of bread. The bill came to just over $50 and it was literally two entire bags of food. It easily comes out to be three plus meals. We had it for lunch and dinner, and there is enough for another lunch tomorrow. My favorite thing a out it all is that you can absolutely taste the love and pride in every bite. Thanks for making us so happy and full!! More...
This food is so good. Service was excellent, even got a discount for it being my first time. Cool people working here. I live in NH, but I'm taking some extra foods to go. This is an authentic Middle Eastern food. It’s really fresh and delicious, great quality, service and menu!Definitely recommended!!!
My sister and I loved Ameera. The staff was so friendly and sweet, and we really appreciated that. We tried the hummus, falafel, samosa, and samoun. Everything was delicious. The falafel is flavorful and crisp. The hummus was some of the best we've had--it's really rich and creamy--and pairs well with the samoun. The samosa was great and inhaled in five seconds. I definitely recommend Ameera for Middle Eastern cuisine in Portland. More...
We ordered a chicken samosa to share and it was delicious! Hot and crispy with a moist, flavorful filling. Next time we stop in, we will definitely be ordering something else of their menu. I just wish they took credit cards, I usually never carry cash but luckily I had some the day we went and I'll have to remember next time! More...
Best hummus around. Order the Ameera, it's like nothing I've had anywhere else; falafel, fried eggplant and fried potatoes. Obsessed.

Everything is so tasty here! While the kibeh is a bit different than my grandmother's was, it's just as addictive. Shukran, Ameera!
We literally travel 2 hours down from Bangor to come to Ameera Bread. It is a hidden gem. The food is all absolutely amazing. My boyfriend worked at he US Embassy in Iraq for 6 years and he says it is absolutely authentic. Just yum. More...
Amazing food! They take part in Dine In as well, which makes them wonderfully wonderfully accessable. Not sure why the sambusas were so expensive, definitely not the size you'd expect for the money paid, but they tasted great.
best food and people in portland by far. the bread is unbelievable got to try it.thank you so much,
Good food and take-out for the freezer.
Food is so authentic and excellent! They have a wonderful selection of baked goods. Come in & load up for the week. The spinach pies are to die for.

Best food ever, hubby and I had delicious meals. ..Thank You.
Ordered a gyro. The sandwich was good but not made with a normal pita. It was a very good bread that was cut open and stuffed... I ordered xtra meat with onions and sauce only. I received tomatoes and lettuce also.. it was probably and hobest mistake. Meat was well seasoned but sandwich was warm at best. 1st time here but will return and ensure order is correct.. More...

Was so good and the service was nice to
Totally delicious. I can't wait to go back! The breads are phenomenal, and the falafel is the best I've ever had.
Got the falafel today. Never a disappointment. A side of pickled red cabbage and two dolma was the perfect touch.
Excellent !We visited this place during our Fall Foliage trip to NH.The food is excellent. We ordered the Chicken Shawarma, Beef Shawarma etc. All the items were tasty. If I ever have a craving for Falafel I would go nowhere else
More than main course I loved the snacks there. The beef sabhusa was simply outstanding though it was a little oily. I gave four stars because I saw something was taken off the shelf from a packet and not result prepared. Could be the bread or falafel balls, either ways, I was expecting everything freshly prepared. May be one more visit and I would change this to 5 star. The dessert with the meal needs special mention. More...
This is a quaint little place with just two tables. The food was the best I've had in awhile, the bread is to die for! If I was a local it would be on my weekly rotation.
A gem of a place - this is the best middle eastern takeout around. Perfect for assembling a picnic, quick meal, or potluck contribution - choose from packaged items in the deli case, or ask for what you want (including falafel balls by the piece) at the front counter.
Good food tv was a little loud
Small out-of-the-way place. Great middle eastern food. Small dining area. I think most people probably take out.
Great place! Delicious and interesting sandwiches, yummy prepared sides in the fridge, kind (if slow) service, and reasonable prices! If I lived nearby, I'd go all the time! More...
I love the people and the food.
Great food, friendly people, and the prices are low
Love this place. The bread, hummus, & falafel are my favorites
An absolute favorite - the flat bread and samoon are the best around. Felafel, shawarma, and other sandwiches are inexpensive, delicious, and the real deal. Ask for the mango sauce ! Super friendly. Prepared foods are also outstanding for reheat at home (think lamb shabzi!) I'm a devoted regular.... More...
I try to get there when we visit Portland. They've recently expanded their tiny storefront and their menu and it just gets better and better. Today I had their Ameer felafel... a sandwich that also includes fried eggplant and potato. My mouth is still vibrating from the brilliant symphony of textures, the lemony bright flavor of i don't know what, the smoky eggplant and spicy ...omg i have to chow down on the leftovers of the huge sandwich right now. Such amazing food!
Amazing takeout! Came in by chance to use up a groupon and ended up taking home half the menu. Very friendly owner and everything was delicious! Tried several dips, breads, and sandwiches and was impressed by it all. Will definitely be back! More...
So affordable, the nicest staff, and so convenient. I especially love the dolmas and the thyme and dill hummus.
This place was so good I seriously considered ordering another sandwich because it pained me to walk away without sampling every flavor in the building
Awesome middle eastern take out with two tables for eating in. Everything we ordered was fabulous (lamb shawarma sandwich, hummus, labneh, za'atar bread). The kids had some pocket bread--I can't remember the name, but they really liked them. Next time I will try one of the stews. A customer ordered one after we had ordered and I was jealous. Service was very friendly and the place was busy--but we got our good fast. Oh, and the olives were delicious. After living in NYC for 10 years, it's the middle eastern food I miss the most. But now that I found Ameera, I'll only have to drive 1 hr instead of 6 to get my labneh fix. (P.S. I own a spice company and their za'atar is great. They should sell that, too! Hard to find good za'atar). More...
Ameera is so much more than a "bread" place, but the naans that they produce are certainly delicious; I think he probably provides the bread for many of the stores that I've been visiting on this trip to Portland. But more than the bread, they have a very extensive selection of appetizers, sandwiches, entrees that seem to cover a large swath of Iraqi cooking. We had a Schwarma, a baklava, and an order of the bread, and it was all delicious. and very reasonable. The story of Ameera is also inspiring and a tribute to the hard work of immigrants! The only downsides, is that there is very little space to eat in the store so it's mostly take out, and it's very hot inside (the ovens!). But the quality more than makes up for it! Good job!! More...
Such a good falafel!! Tender and flavorful, with plenty of sauce and a fantastic, magical, springy delicious, delightfully chewy wrap!! Just what I was looking for, a convenient quick place to get all my favorite Middle-Eastern treats: falafel, kofta, fresh made hummus, dates with pistachio, breads! You name it they've got it at this small restaurant/market! Can't wait to make it back! More...
This review is long overdue! I absolutely love this place. They have two locations, one out on forest ave and one downtown in the public market in monument square. I currently frequent the monument square location. Their tabouleh salad and hummus are so fresh (add lemon juice to your tabouleh!). The chicken shawarma is delicious-don't forget to add hot sauce! The food is great here and the people are incredibly nice! Highly recommend this spot! More...
The best hummus I have ever had. I will never again be able to eat it from the grocery store. The nan bread is so fresh. I don't know much about middle eastern cuisine, but I'm excited to learn. The family who owns this business is so nice. If you haven't stopped in here you must. I have lived in Portland for 35 years and so appreciate the explosion of culture that has come to our city and the great food from all over the globe. More...
Yes, Please! I got a Living Social deal for Ameera Bread, though I had never heard of it before (which is a good reason to have Living Social and Groupon deals - to find new customers!). I love trying all sorts of different cuisines, and was excited for some Iraqi Middle Eastern food. I invited my daughter to meet me there for lunch. At first I wondered whether we would be able to sit down and eat - from the outside it looks like a quick take-out place. Then I opened the door - WOW! The enticing aroma is the first thing that hits. And then how deceivingly spacious it is on the inside, and then Ahmed's smile and friendly greeting. My biggest problem with Ameera was choosing what to eat. My daughter went quick and easy with a gyro (which was really good, btw - I tend to steer clear of them because I'm worried about getting fatty meat, but this was thick-cut and savory, with a really nice texture), but I just stared at the menu trying to decide - everything sounded really good. This was fine, because there was a steady stream of folks in the door, and Ahmed was cooking someone else's meal while I pondered - no rush and no pressure. This place has a following! Lots of obvious regulars coming in to grab a quick lunch. I finally decided on the Korma - the blend of coconut, coriander and other spices with the tender chicken and the light, fluffy rice made it an excellent choice. It was delicious, and I still wondered with every bite how good all the other choices would have been. I was glad for the to-go box, because it would be hard for anyone but the hungriest to finish such a large meal. And I wanted to save room for dessert - thank goodness I did! Again, I couldn't make a decision, so he offered to make me a combination package. The baklava was the best I've ever had, bar none. Tender, crisp, not too sweet or gooey and full of flavor. I also loved the bird's nest and the nut roll (can't remember the name). But please, do yourself a favor and get the baklava. I got a take-home package of Sumac Hummus as well, and it was SO much better than what you find in stores - fresh and light and with flavors you won't find anywhere else. We had a wonderful experience. Looks like I will have to go back as many times as it takes me to try everything on the menu! More...
Best Hummus in all of Portland! I go in every week and bug some because it's so delicious. Amazing pita and sandwiching as well! Along with many other yummy options. More...
Ameera was an interesting experience. My boyfriend would go back in a heartbeat but I'd only go for bread or dessert. I had a groupon which caused me to order more food than we needed. The food was prepared in front of us while we waited so we knew it was fresh. We ended up getting a medley of a couple different sweets which were decadent as well as a gyro and bread. The portions were large and seemed like a good value. The inside was not setup in a way I would opt to eat in so takeout is necessary. More...
Finally stopped in after reading the great reviews, and my only regret is not eating here sooner! I had the chicken kabob sandwich and was amazed at how delicious it was. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and cooked. The vegetables are fresh, but the bread (Naan) was the star of the show. So fresh and soft and amazing! In addition to the tzaziki ask for some hot sauce. You'll be glad you did. It's just the right amount of spicy. For only $7.99 this is one of the best deals around. I will be eating here frequently and can't wait to try more of the menu! Trust me, you want to try this place! More...
This place is too easy to miss while just driving by. It is small and set back from the road--almost looks closed from the outside. But it is beyond worth looking for!First of all, the people who work here are so kind. I'm not sure if it is a family who owns it or what, but they are definitely local to the Portland area, so you can sleep well knowing you are supporting the local community. As if that wasn't enough to draw you in, THE FOOD IS AMAZING!!! All of it. It is extremely authentic and well-prepared. Probably the best I have had in Portland. They even ask to what spice-level you would like your items. The naan is the best I've had in my life--so fresh and delicious--and so is the falafel sandwich. They even home-make their own hummus. You really, truly cannot go wrong ordering anything here. You can also get breads and prepared foods to go. They are all ready to pick up in the coolers. The prices are very reasonable too--overall a great spot for lunch! One downfall is that it is small, so there are only two tables inside if you choose to eat there. Just as easily order to go though! More...
Tried Ameera Bread yesterday for the first time and we will definitely be back! Delicious lamb and beef gyro, hummus, baba ganoush, stuffed grape leaves, pickles, and a drink - all for an incredibly reasonable price! Got some naan bread and Korfu for the freezer to enjoy another day. More...
Wowza! This is a hole in the wall that produces freshly baked Mediterranean goodness. We love the beef shawarma! It's so flavorful, tender and nice size. They also have awesome baclava varieties which is very dangerous especially if you're trying to watch your sugar intake. They're not too sweet but I tend to eat the entire container. They also have the best freshly made hummus. More...
Food, as always, was great! Falafel sandwich, salad and dolmas and tabouleh. Friends had chicken shawarma and gyro platter. Excellent!
Noticed this place and knew I had to try it being a vegetarian and knowing they would have falafel. They have many other things that I wanted as well. Breads, treats and hummus to name a few. The falafel was the best I have had in quite some time so I took my wife here as well at a later date and she agreed .They are also open on Sundays despite what the listing on this site has written. We were amazed by the food quality, taste and service at this place. Excellent food at excellent prices. Will definitely try to return if in Portland again.
Very authentic food. I got the khati plate and it was excellent. Only thing I would change is getting rice instead of the salad. I was skeptical about the fries that came with it cause it didn't seem like it fit the meal but was blown away when i tried them, the seasoning was great. Definitely going back. More...
I went with the chicken shawarma and the veggie samosa. Very happy with both. Pita was nice and soft. The garlic sauce in the shawarma had a nice mellow flavor that went with the chicken and veggies inside. I'm not a samosa expert, but they were flaky dough with nice spice mixture inside. I'm going back. Fast, good, and under $10. More...
Such great food! Their pitas and hummus is to die for. I always go and try something new from their desserts too. All the people working there are always happy and friendly and just love to tell you all about their food!
Great food! The owner is really nice and helpful if you have questions! He gave me a free sample of zatar hummus which is amazing ! Good prices too! I will be back
I've only been to the location in the Public House. The breads are very good. The staff is always accommodating and helpful. I didn't get food from here, except once a vegetable samosa. It had good flavor and vegetable filling but very very greasy. They do tend to run out of bread at this location. More...
Very fairly priced take out plates and sandwiches, a great stop for days I don't bring a lunch to work. Kind staff, and out of this world bread.
The only Zabiha Halal restaurant I have found when I was in Portland. Their beef and chicken puffs are very delicious. The Falafel roll was on point. The owner is very friendly. I would definitely go there if I am in Portland again. Best Hameeseh. More...
This is an incredible find on Forest Avenue. The bread is outstanding on the people running Ameera are friendly and welcoming. They're always ready to explain about their bread and their food. Yes, their food. Ameera is more than a bakery. It has a couple of tables but I think they must do a great take-out business. We have friends who make a regular trip to Portland from Bar Harbor and one of their must-do stops is Ameera. More...
Amazing food. Everything tastes so fresh. I will definitely be going back.
1st time to visit, very good food, friendly peeps!
food was incredibly delicious .. I have tried over 50 Mediterranean places over New England, this is a humble small place but very tasty. The gentleman who served us was so so gentle and offered us free plate of rice, free drinks as compliment and was smiling at all times. Congrats on such a wonderful place. I promised myself to keep visiting this place every time I go to Maine. More...
Had stir fry with their teriyaki sauce and it was amazing, not too sweet and had a little kick at the end. The woman running it was so sweet and wanted to make sure that my meal was perfect.
The must amazing place ever, anything you see eat it. It is something you will have to do again for the rest of your life!
So excited to discover this gem! Incredible service, delicious food - and the bread! Try it all! 2 small tables. Halal. Love the diversity Portland has - makes life more delicious & the community more vibrant!
Excellent pitas & naan. Meals are good too.
Absolutely love these guys.
delicious food .the slow servis
Can't say enough good about this place! The guys who work here/own it are super friendly, polite and nice. Best Naan around! Our new favorite base for homemade pizza! Went in a few weeks ago just to pick up Naan, and after being provided with a bunch of samples and tastes of different things, I left with the BEST royal dates, sauces, humus, and meat pockets (not sure what they are called). everything I've had has been delicious and made fresh. Best ever, all the way around! Best kept secret hole in the wall of Portland. More...
One of the best places in Portland to get shawarma. Friendly staff, quick service, and delivery via 2dinein is convenient too. This location may be a bit out of the way, but it's well worth it. More...
Gyro plate was delicious! Went with groupon, will absolutely frequent this place going forward.

Great quality bread, come check it out very clean and ethnic feeling, love it
Great food and good prices. Try the kafta! The only downside was the lack of seating. Take your order to Back Bay to eat with a great view.
Very authentic and tasty
Amazing Iraqi food !
Inexpensive, fresh breads. Shawarma we got did not taste fresh. Prices are very reasonable.
The staff was very polite and the food was delicious
It is awesome no artificial added bread just salt and water
Amazing food. Great owners.
Delicious food! I just wanted to try everything and found it all delightful. Friendly workers make it easy to find something new to try and enjoy
I could write a love letter. I've never had a bad sandwich, grape leaf, soup, or hummus here. I'm a vegetarian but I've had good reviews about their meat items. The only reason I can't go more often is that you really have to plan to put aside at least 40 min to get there, pick up, and get back, even when having called ahead. Still, a little hassle is worth all of that heavenly food. More...
I tried my first falafel sandwich at Ameera Bread in the public market. It was so good! The sauce that they put in the sandwich was incredible. Can't wait to go back!
Most authentic Iraqi food I've had in the United States. We had the kufta and shawarma, both were extremely delicious. The bread is very good and the meat was fresh and savory. The employees are very friendly and a joy to talk to. If I lived in Portland, I would visit it regularly!! More...
We came to Ameera's bread today for vegetarian lunch. It was amazing! Everything was fresh and tasteful. Salads like salads should be, great hummus, and excellent falafel- made to order. Above all, the service is the friendliest and kindest you'd ever get. I can't recommend this place highly enough. More...
Most authentic meal I've had in Portland. The employees were so nice and helpful. The kitchen is open so you can watch what they're doing while you're waiting for your food or eating! They also have a large supply of fresh bread, hummus, and other sides available. The desserts looks to die for, but I was too full from my sandwich to try. Speaking of which, the sandwiches come with a drink, what a deal! More...
Loved the falafel and service!!! Great place, hidden gem. Bread was super soft and yummy, the gentleman made great suggestions on sauces with the sandwich and offered a sample before ordering.
Want a great, basic Middle Eastern sandwich? Then Ameera's the place to go when you're in town. There are a couple of small tables inside, so if it's raining out, your picnic can stay dry.The meals with included drinks is always a nice treat. We're often grabbing sides out of the refrigerators to bring home as well.Parking on the driveway can be a bit tight, so try the street first, even across. Ameera is worth the hassle. More...
Amazing falafels and the pita pocket was huge and super fresh. Will def go again!
Very friendly, smells amazing! Great bread and dips, can't wait to come back! I would recommend take out since the place is pretty small with only two tables.
Amazing food!! The folks who work here are super nice and the meal we had was amazing.
I love this place! I visited the Portland public market today and thought I'd pick up some shawarma for lunch, but they weren't open for lunch yet. Instead I had a lovely chat with one of the owners who told me about their travels here to Maine and the running of their small family business. We talked food and about how she likes to support the students in the area who can't afford much for lunch. And proceeded to offer me a free lunch from their brand new "build your own stir-fry bar", in which you not only assemble your veggies but the ingredients for your sauce as well. Something great for people sensitive to sodium or particular ingredients.Kind people, delicious food, and intimate customer interaction. Eat here and say hello to them! More...
We have never had a bad meal from Ameera Bread. Their prices are great, and the portions are excellent. The parking situation isn't the best, but it's worth it -- it smells incredible the minute you walk in the door and the food follows through on that promise. They frequently have a Groupon, which makes for an even better value, but it's definitely worth it even at full price. More...

Very good food and very fresh bread. The falafel sandwich is perfect, so many places overcook falafel. Lunch time was busy with a longer wait than expected as they make the food.
Best kunafa in portland. Right balance of cheese and sweet. Worth trying. Small place selling good quality halal food. Prices are reasonable too and owner is very sweet. They have alot of variety.
Sure the (non-existent) parking stinks, but seriously, who cares when the food is that tasty? I stopped by for the "Support a Muslim-Owned Business" movement in January and now I can't stop going there. Their veggie samosas should be listed as a schedule 1 drug. I also love their bread and their hummus is unlike any other hummus I've had, including my own. I fear that if I try the baklava, I will never stop eating it, so I will resist until I can't hold out any longer. The folks who work are always incredibly friendly to me as well. More...
Every time I walk in I am greeted with a smile and warm welcome! Not only is the bread amazing. Their humus and baklava are the best in Portland by far! My favorite part about going to Ameera is the staff seems to be just as happy to feed me as I am to eat their food! Feel the love at Ameera bread! More...
I have been driving by this place for about a year as I take my daughter to field hockey practice at the Dome. I have always had the urge to stop but have never had the time, etc. I looked the location up on Yelp and read the reviews and knew I needed to go ( this is why I love this app so much). I made time to stop yesterday and now I am pretty sure I will never drive by without stopping again. I don't have too much experience with middle eastern cuisine and must of looked a little out of my element when I came in. It didn't take long for the gentleman to come from behind the counter to patiently explain the food in front of me. He let me sample a kleicha (date roll) which was flaky, not too sweet and absolutely delicious! I ended up buying a box. One dish on the menu which I have eaten many times was the lamb gyro. Ok, not very adventurous but at least it was something I could compare to past experience. It was easily the best gyro I have ever had. The home made samoon bread was the difference. It was baked right in front of you. Shaped like a football, it was soft and airy inside. After devouring the sandwich I went to the field hockey practice and told a parent there about the sandwich I just ate. She thought it sounded so good that she got up and left and went there for lunch too. She got the beef shawarma and said it was fantastic. The only thing that topped the excellent food was the staff inside! These guys are super friendly, helpful and fun to be around. I feel like I made new friends! You MUST stop in and try this place! More...
Super affordable, fresh and tasty! Steak is a bit chewy but I want to try the other items on the menu. Def will come back!
Bring your appetite! Bring two! Archer makes great suggestions and it's all served with warmth and smiles. Great varieties of baclava...and handmade refrigerated foods to be taken home. Great place to eat!!! More...
Delicious samosas and my favorite falafel in Portland. Very carefully prepared meats too! The service is wonderful. The breads are fresh and also very well made. A+
Super friendly and helpful service. The owner always takes time to explain different options for me. Love the pita and frozen dishes to go. Sambusa is delicious!!
Digging the dips here. Baba ghanoush is divine, really spicy. Eggplant dip is with onion, a bit chunky but super refreshing. My SO thinks the hummus has too much tahini, but I am good with it. Also, they have FAVA bean that ROCKS; the Fava Bean is really hard to find at most middle eastern joints, at least up here in Maine. They also make sandwiches at $8: only tried the falafel which was OK but they do have two shawarma sticks in the back so give that a try.I come here now all the time because of the variety of the vegetarian options, be warned the bread will get moldy within 4-5 days, happens every time even when stored in the fridge. So they sell huge bags of bread, so maybe buy it with someone else and just split the bag? Yeah I like the bread with the dips. For about $20 you can get enough to keep you snacking at home for a whole week!! More...
So glad I found this Iraqi gem.I had the falafel gyro. It was the freshness of ingredients that make the sandwich. Love the taste of fresh basil in this sandwich. I had a bite of the lamb and beef shawarma and it was equally good.My favorite is the beef sambousa. It was filled with meat and so tasty. The baklava is rich and one can taste its buttery richness. One can buy fresh nan, foul ( pronounce fool) bread and all the other breads packaged and ready to go. In the fridge ready made foods are also available. Try them! And oh their portions are huge! More...
I was greeted warmly by the employee here, who proceeded to show me what was on the menu and what was popular. He said 1 dinner version of each meal is about 3 sandwiches worth. That sounded like too much for me so I got the falafel sandwich with lettuce and pickles and everything else on it. He also offered their spicy sauce, but, for someone who frequently eats spicy food, it wasn't spicy for me.He made it hot and fresh. It came out steaming, and so so soo crispy! There was just enough sauce that the sandwich stayed crispy and wasn't dry. One of the best I've had for sure! I definitely recommend it! It's top notch! Also, the street parking out front is 15 min limit but just until 5pm. More...
Moving from Boston I've been on the search for good falafel and can't believe I hadn't found this place sooner! The falafel and gyro were amazing as well as the breads they came on. Staff was super friendly and you can't beat the price. More of a takeout place but we did eat there as they have 2 small tables. More...
Stumbled upon this place mostly on accident today, and I'm very glad I did! The chicken shawarma was delicious, made in sammoun bread, the guys behind the counter were friendly and fast, and the price was good. I will be back!
If you are a casual enjoyer of Falafel, you will take one bite of Ameera Bread's Falafel and never want to eat anything else. Everything is made fresh to order and is delicious. HIGHLY recommend. More...
This is a great little hole in the wall place with delicious food for cheap. As a bonus, the people who work there are incredibly nice! Highly recommend.
Glad they opened a spot on the second floor in Monument Square at the Portland Public Market House. This place will be my new weekly lunch spot. Since discovering them less than a week ago, I have already been back. The guys that work here are not only passionate about what they do, but they deliver on taste and price. The value here is better than you will find anywhere else in Portland. Amazing bread, falafel, and gyros. Can't wait to try the Shawarma and the hummus. More...
We hit this spot up everytime we come to Portland! The bread is amazing and we love to stock up on it when we can. We haven't tried everything they have to offer yet but I will say the hummus is awesome as well as all varieties of bread they have available. Thanks to everyone that works at your business well done! More...
These guys are the best. The bread is amazing. Best falafel I've ever had. Everything they do is amazing!
Happy food Middle East, I feel that I can not eat another restaurant in the continuous development of the Arab and handmade bread tastes it deserves to be people in the art of cookingVery suitable food prices compared to others and not persuaded preservatives for food so healthy food
Food was delicious!! We tried everything... the spicy baba ganoush, the hummus, the naan bread and the falafel sandwich. and the baklava. Everything was excellent and very reasonably priced. Definitely worth checking out. More...
Best naan ever! Delicious desserts & hummus. I had experienced their breads and spreads at the farmer's market, but am so glad I found their store front. Can't wait to go back and try the sandwiches! More...
Hard to see passing by, but definitely worth the stop! Baba ganoush was delicious. Very fresh hummus.

I went there before it was called Ameera Bread, and I had a so so experience. Being from North Africa, most of the foods there are part of my culture, so I'm grateful for being able to get delicious homey takeouts in a foreign country, specially here in Maine. One night, I noticed the improvement and the new recipe's added, my partner and I decided to go and it was the best experience. Falafel is made to order, bread test like real bread, all natural and no preservatives, the kufta (which everyone should try and is also a lot testier than kabab) is heaven. The dessert is not so sweet like packaged baklava, is made there. They also have made ready dinners that we get when we don't have time to cook, they also cater, did I say that? Yes, they cater. So if you also want to make your event more interesting, consider Ameera Bread! More...

My veggie-wife and i consider this the go-to for anytime we are needing a quick, yummy meal. Delicious lavash style bread (foul, pronounced fool), lamanjeun (small pizza like breads), and exceptional spreads: the baba ganoush and tomato/pepper spread, and the hot pepper hummus are highlights. We think the dolmas are good, better than canned, but we make our own and are spoiled. A place to get a variety of middle-eastern sweets too including baclava. Finally, for the meat eater, gyros are carved right off the rotisserie! More...
This place totally rocks! Delicious bread. Falafel is authentic and fantastic. Support local businesses like this! Oh also nice and affordable.
Let me tell you about this place. First off, the staff is super nice, secondly their shawarma is bomb. Their shawarma made me fall in love again! Lastly, their food is 100% halal which is kinda hard to find here. Overall, I appreciate that they're adding an important niche to an otherwise drab, if high quality food landscape. More...
Best hole in the wall in Portland. Amazing bread and incredible gyros and falafel. Way cheap and super nice people working there. Gotta go. Best deal in Portland
I looooove this place! I went in search for this hidden gem on forest ave. I was making homemade falafels and wanted fresh naan bread (not the crap you buy at the grocery store). I passed it a couple times since they had no sign, but I eventually found it. Since then they have put up a sign so it's easier to find! I bought 2 big bags of naan that was still warm from the oven. The owner (I'm guessing) was so helpful and thrilled that I had come in. I was the only customer in his shop, hopefully this will change because this place is awesome. I ended up getting some of his homemade hummus, dolmas and a few of the handmade baklava....I couldn't help myself. All were delicious and he even gave me a few complimentary goodiesI have become a loyal customer and it makes me miss my Lebanese ex boyfriends cooking.....just the cooking people. Since this discovery I don't have to drunk text him anymore to beg for baklava More...
Ameera Bread is the definition of a hidden gem! The food is incredibly authentic and absolutely delicious. I have had the naan, which I took home to serve with dinner (hint: put coconut oil on both sides of the bread and heat in the oven, it is amazing), and the falafel sandwich. The falafel sandwich, which was huge, was only about $7. The falafel itself was flavorful with superb texture. Served on their housemade pita, which has the perfect chewy yet soft texture, it came loaded with veggies, tzatziki and a dash of hot sauce per my request. The staff was amiable, casual and warm, and the passion for their craft is evidenced in their food. More...
I'm gonna be coming back here a lot in the future - the staff was friendly, the prices are very reasonable and food is delicious! I got the chicken shawarma and a bag of their homemade flatbread. The sandwich came with a free soda and my total was $11 dollars. Loved it! More...
For lunch under $10, I truly believe this is the best value that I've experienced in Portland in the 5 years I've been frequenting restaurants here. I had the falafel sandwich with the veggies in it, my fiancée had the tikka sandwich, and we got some baked goods with spinach in them and a bag filled with four HUGE slices of naan bread for right around $25 dollars. If we had only gotten the sandwiches, it would have been maybe $13. And the portions are extremely generous. There were two gentlemen working there, and they were extremely friendly and helpful with describing the food items that were unfamiliar to us, giving their recommendations, and just being nice, good people to do business with. And then, one of the most important factors: the taste! The way the food tasted was out of this world. I've also had the falafel at Nosh and Sebago, and Ameera's is my favorite by far. It has a satisfying crunch, and the seasoning was great. Both Nosh and Sebago, the falafel was a bit mushy and bland, but that it not the case at Ameera, it's very good quality.I'm definitely going to make this place one of my weeklies! More...
Everything we have tried here is excellent - Lentil soup, Lamb kebab sandwich, falafels, tabouli. The bread is great and baked fresh daily. There is very limited seating so we always take out from here. More...
Despite the sketchy exterior, the food was delcicious and the staff were very friendly! Definitely recommend the sandwiches/wraps. Very tasty!
Excellent Falafel sandwich. Yummy bread too. There are just two tables so it is mostly a take out sort of place. Looking forward to trying other menu items when I return.
I come here often to get sandwiches to go. I've had the shawarma/gyros, falafel, and the baklava. All were very good. The guy behind the counter cuts all the veggies for the sandwiches fresh while you wait. It's a bakery so the bread is baked fresh everyday. It is the best pita I've ever had. It's chewy and strong enough to make wraps, but soft at the same time. When I come in for lunch I always buy a bag of the bread to take home. There are only two tables inside so you should probably plan to get the food to go. The parking lot in front is very small, but there is usually plenty of space along the road to park and there is a parking lot in the back. More...
Definitely try the Falafel and Zater(Hummus).Excellent taste !!
Their bread is great. My wife tried brushing with olive oil, sprinkling with salt and warming briefly in the over -- really amazing.I have also tried their spicy baba ganoush. For me it's a novel spin on baba ganoush and I liked it a lot More...
amazing place if you thinking about yammy food like falafel , gyro , shawarma , kufta and so many for the appitizers
Amazing breads. The baba ganouj is All Spicey but amazingly good. This was a great find.
Stumbled on this awesome bakery today! Wonderful breads and gyros. Fresh falafel the way God intended. Friendly, tasty and and a great addition to Portland, Maine. We will be back.
Delicious pastries are available here! They've got baklava, a sesame baked good, and something with cornmeal and coconut. I don't know what the names were but they are all super tasty! The owner was very nice and explained in detail what they offered. Prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be coming back to try the falafel. The bakery is tucked away in a small lot. There is 15-minute parking available on the street. Tip: bring cash and small change. More...
This is my new go-to falafel sandwich. $4.99. Definitely get the mango sauce (savory, not sweet). I've had it twice in one week...and will be back soon. Food is 5 star... ambience and general interest in having patrons is closer to a 2. But the delicious food/bread definitely makes it worth a visit. More...
This place has the best bread I have ever tasted! I adore the flat, round tandoori bread...it is always freshly baked and keeps very well in the fridge. I have not tried their luncheon menu, but can't wait to taste the falafel. More...
This place is amazing! When living in NYC I developed a love for falafels, but upon returning to Maine i've been hard pressed to find anything comparable. Yes we have places to get a falafel in Portland, but none of the come remotely close to tandoor. The bread is fresh, the falafels are cooked to perfection, and the mango and hot sauces are delicious. I've never left this establishment feeling anything less then elated. Support this place and grab a fresh bag of bread on your way out too! More...
This place is amazing!Everything I've tried here is delicious: falafel, lamb shwarma, foul, spinach pie, hummus. Incredible hummus. One time the dude whipped up a fresh batch while I waited. It took a few extra minutes but it was the freshest hummus I ever ate and maybe the best. Their bakery is totally legit too; I really like the samoon (elliptical shaped bread).Their menu keeps expanding - every time I go in there's a bunch of new stuff on the menu. I can't wait to try all of it. More...
Talk about a hidden gem. I went here the first week it opened and after buying one package of bread was given some fresh from the oven. Not that the bagged one wasn't still warm, but the woman was seriously like - oh you have to taste it out of the oven haha. This place is on the way back from work for me and I stop often. I go for the bread and occasionally treat myself with other things. Is it convenient that they are next to Haggartys? Heck yes! Nevermind the naan, come get the bread here and it's them together! More...
The tandoori bread here is by far the star. Make sure you get a bag to go for later. Falafel was pretty good but the beef shawarma was amazing. I wish they had more seating (1 table) but just go there with the mind set of getting it to go and either eat at home or at the park. You can't beat the food and price. The people working were very pleasant as well. More...
Tucked back off Forest Ave, this place is a delicious find and frankly make the best falafel I've had on the east coast. Chewy Iraqi bread, foul: pronounced fool (a comforting and savory fava bean spread similar to hummus but served warm and their delicious falafel are all stand outs. The falafel sandwich with hot sauce is also excellent and HUGE!The food is filling and authentic, prices are very reasonable and the place is run by a husband and wife team with their kids. When my husband asked which days they're open, the wife looks at him like it's the dumbest question she's ever heard and tells him they're open everyday. 'Nuf said. These people work hard. Highly recommended. Order a bag of homemade Iraqi bread to take home and thank me later. More...
Awesome bread. Something a little different for when you're craving a sandwich. The foul, the falafel, and the kababs are great. Everything is made to order, so you might have to wait awhile. More...
The people here are nice, and the food is fantastic. Five bucks gets you a half-day's worth of falafel, and the guy cranking out flatbreads even threw me a free 1.5 foot diameter one after jovially inviting me over to the tandoor to see up close how they're made. Can't recommend this place enough, and I hope they expand in the future. More...
Just stopped here to pick up some Indian bread and it was definetly well worth it. I will be back to try the falafel and shawarma. Tiny little place not easy to find and parking is tight but worth the effort. More...
Perfectly imperfect. I love this place, the people, the little things that make it memorable. And the food? That bread just flat out smangs it. (not to mention the cheese pies and the falafel) Cannot wait to devour the shawarma! More...
The bread is amazing - made right before your eyes! The food is great! I had the Foule & Falafel - it came with two sauces for the falafel, a side salad, and really fresh, delicious foule (cooked fava beans). All so fresh and delicious! Small dining area and parking lot, but street parking is available (read the signs.) Oh, and got the baklava to take home - was too full of yummy food to eat it right away! More...
Worth making a special trip for his special bread. We use it to make the best pizza. And the falafel is the best--crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside.
I cant agree more with the other review here. Really the best falafel in town. And on their famously fresh delicious bread. Ask for the spicy sauce, just the right amount of tang and not too spicy. More...
A real small store tucked behind a head shop on Forest Ave hails the best Falafel around. The falafel comes in a fresh pita wrap, with tomatoes and lettuce. Real simple, but excellent. And at only 5 bucks. (Get the mango sauce too)The desserts are great as well. And the naan. It's all made there, and it's all great. They've also just started making Iraqi Pizza too on the naan bread, but I've yet to try that out.Very friendly. Definitely plan on supporting this family-run business more. More...
