Amaranth was formed in 2008 by friends and photographers Sheila Griffin and Becky Holladay, right after they graduated from the photojournalism and documentary photography program at the International Center of Photography in NYC. Sheila had a previous background in painting and sculpture and the friends both had a love of dreamy, square, film photographs.
The business is now headed by Sheila, who grew up New England town and moved to NYC in 1999 to go to art school at The School of Visual Arts (SVA). There I earned my BFA with a focus on painting and sculpture. I then worked as an artist and educator and participated in many group art shows around NYC. In 2004 I moved to Japan for a year which rekindled the love affair I've had with photography since high school. I bought my first Holga at a little shop in Tokyo and really delved back into photography during my travels in Japan and South East Asia. When I returned to NYC I quickly enrolled in ICP's program for photojournalism and documentary photography, and haven't looked back!
My non-wedding photos have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, City Magazine, and other publications. I have received awards from the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), The IPA, the NY Photo awards, and ICP. As well as NYC gallery shows and the Pingyao Photo Festival in China.
