I booked a tutorial with John Lindsay to learn how to use my little digital camera more efficiently. I did learn a lot more than just that and proudly went home with quite a number of beautifully composed pictures. John tailored the mini course to my current knowledge, abilities, temperament and needs. It seemed a good balance between getting the theory and then applying it in practice. Of course, it helped to be out and about in Alyth during a sunny and warm afternoon. My second tutorial is already planned. Thanks again, John. Has been a pleasure. More...

Q&As

It is much more than simply a perfect exposure and good composition. That's what you expect from every professional photographer.
With portrait & wedding photography the secret is revealing the personalities of the people in the pictures.
The picture tells a story about the person to the viewer.
I make the subjects in the photo feel relaxed and they forget about the camera. When this happens, it is a huge step towards that great photograph.
I use a number of methods to achieve this.

A great photograph has a natural look, not a "forced smile".
I have different ways to get that happy smiling look in the subjects. It depends on the individual being photogrphed.

You don't always need to have everyone looking at the camera.
The best photographs often have people looking at each other or a common point of interest.
This type of image tells a story and evokes an emotion.

Firstly the obvious questions on dates and location. No point in entering a long discussion with a potential client only to discover that I am already have a booking for that date.

Then I ask how many people or items are involved in the shoot. This gives me an idea of the length of time that will be required to take the photos.
The potential client is asked what they want from the shoot regarding style, numbers, story, emotions.
I ask people their preferences and get to know them a little by their answers.
Clients are asked about which specific pictures they want. There are always those "must have" pictures from any shoot.

In the end it is about giving the clients what they want.

Meeting people. Seeing people so happy with the final pictures.
Knowing that I have surpassed the client's expectations.
Seeing the emotions of clients viewing the images.

Being creative.
Every photo-shoot is different. New possibilities, new expecations, new challenges.

I had been involved in photography for over 30 years.
However, more recently work was taking me further from home for longer.
I decided to start my own photography business, working from home. Although the hours can be longer it is a better work/life balance.
I am doing something I thoroughly enjoy. Not everyone can say that about their work these days.

I listen then deliver. I give clients what they want.
Easy going and so I am easy and enjoyable to work with.
Truthful, fair & punctual. You know everything that you are entering in to.
I make my work with you an enjoyable experience for everyone. Happier people take better photographs.
From the start, I prefer to talk to you so no hiding behind emails.
That wa,y you get to know me and I get to know you.

I pay a lot of attention to detail, such as best locations, light and logistics on the day.
My planning & preparation before the photo-shoot allows me to carry out all the work on the day smoothly with no unexpected surprises.
I plan fot the worst situations too, so if they do happen (usually bad weather), I have a Plan B which I can easily implement.

My aim is to surpass your expectations.
You can ask me questions at any time. I am very approachable.
During my time on your project you get my full attention.
