Blown away. I was the National Outdoorsman of the Year many moons ago. I've never been to a shop with a more knowledgeable staff. And the equipment is top notch and the selection overwhelmingly wonderful. More...

We'd been thinking about pulling the trigger on a pair of kayaks but had long been overwhelmed by the amount of information while doing research. Bored on a rainy Saturday we wandered into the Alpine Shop, that's when we met Perry. Not only did he find us the boat we wanted/needed he tracked down a second, in another state, that had been heavily discounted as a previous year's model. In no way whatsoever did we feel pressured into buying something that didn't suit our needs/interests/skill level. We truly felt like we were being taken care of by someone very knowledgeable who wanted us to enjoy the sport long term. Additionally, there were some issues with the rack accessories we bought. Again, Perry took it upon himself to correct the problem and then personally see that everything was installed correctly. Customer service at Alpine Shop is truly second to none. More...

Great place for outdoor gear! Staff knows their stuff. I've purchased things for running, backpacking, camping and kayaking here and they've never steered me wrong. And they've got great shoes and clothes - clearance section is always stocked with rad deals, too. In the age of online shopping, there's a lot of junk outdoor gear out there. It's nice to have a local store that specializes in outdoor gear, stocks good brands and gives great advice and recommendations. More...

Excellent spot for apparel and accessories for the outdoor enthusiast or those who simply want to look like they spend time in the great outdoors. Alpine Shop is a local business with multiple locations in the St. Louis area. Intrigued by the array of brands offered, and needing warm clothing and layering pieces for the months ahead, I decided to stop into the Chesterfield location, located in a large strip mall near Barnes & Noble. The store is well merchandised and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful, even going out of their way to call to another location to order a Kuhl fleece vest that I was looking at that was not in stock in my size at the Chesterfield location. It is not easy to find Kuhl apparel and the selection here rivals that on Amazon. In addition to the vest, I ended up purchasing a pair of Smartwool fleece-lined leggings, along with a couple of long-sleeved layering tops. After doing a major coat closet purge earlier this season, I was in need of hats. Alpine Shop delivered, as I managed to score a coal gray hat with a decorative pompom detail, and another, oatmeal hat that is fleece-lined and also features a pompom--perfect to pair with my Canada Goose or Moose Knuckles parkas when the temperatures plummet. The area near the cash register also features handy guides and checklists on packing for skiing, hiking, and camping trips. While the pieces I got are not the most fashion-y variety, I know they will stand the test of time and be wardrobe workhorses to keep me toasty in the bone-chilling cold of a Chicago winter. More...

Alpine Shop has a long history of providing premium outdoor equipment and clothes for all your outdoor needs. They really "do what they sell", and they love what they do, so talking to the staff is a great bonus to the buying experience.  I thoroughly enjoyed worked there part-time for 5 years and still always enjoy this slice of Colorado mountain experience.  It just feels right, not like REI or the other big box stores.  And yes, it's premium pricing, but that's how you get great staff with a working knowledge that can save you a lot of hassle and money on down the road by selling you the right gear the first time. This was my first time stopping here. Facility is clean and the staff are friendly. I lucked out by stopping by during a sale and picked up some essentials for kayak season. I probably could have picked up some of the items for cheaper online, but with the trusty staff and being able to try things on while I was there trumped the online shopping experience. The staff is fairly knowledgeable of the outdoor sports / adventures so they can help point you in the right direction when you’re looking for the right gear. Neat little spot. If you’re in the Kirkwood area stop by and find all the outdoor gear you need. More...

Buying ski clothes in Saint Louis doesn't get any better than this.

First of all we walked in at open (10am on Saturday) and there was a table of complimentary ALCOHOL. A tub of iced down free beer. I shopped all morning while drinking for free, it does not get any betrer.

They don't have the lowest prices but still keep a good inventory of of clearance and discount clothes on hand. If you're willing to pay for the quality they have all of the topline brands and plenty of choices. Clothing, equipment, and more. Sections for men, women and kids. Lots of staff around and all very friendly and helpful. Very impressed.

They last a long time and the kids like the name brands. Large selection of top quality sports products. I like getting a comfortable North Face tee at a fair price from a local store instead of a chain market. I have gotten great advice on products I was just interested in. Yesterday I felt obligated to share my experience I had at Alpine. It was raining and crappy out and I've been wanting a certain jacket for a while now. I called the store to see if it was something they had in stock. Not only did the staff member know already that they carried it, but he went out of his way to check and see what colors they came in and what sizes they had in stock. I was blown away by his willingness to totally help me out- a person that simply called the store. When I arrived every single staff member smiled at me or asked if I needed help. If I had any questions they knew the answers and were super knowledgeable. Can't say enough nice things about my experience, but I'm always super happy to spend my money locally instead of visiting the big box store.
