This place is great except for the pool and the changing lockers, they are so dirty! Everything else is nice.

Everyone is too harsh on employees here and complain about stupid little things. Employees greet you very nicely no matter what day it is when you walk in and are always there for support in the weight room. They watch closely for anyone that is struggling and for people the need help. There are loads of work out classes that you can take and fun activities that you can do for all ages children included. This gym is awesome and I have never had an issue with anything there. More...

Joining CrossFit War Streets is one of the best decisions I made this year. As a BodyPUMP instructor and roller derby player, I was looking for a changeup in my routine to help me improve my strength and endurance. Little did I know how FUN the workouts were going to be and how the camaraderie of the box would push me to be a better athlete.

Erica, Abby and Jen have a special mix of instructor mojo: they scream, cheer, motivate AND will do the workouts right along with you. You don't have to do anything in the CrossFit gym you aren't comfortable with. The instructors find absolute scalability of any workout for you. Don’t get me started on how this is the most affordable and flexible CrossFit option in Pittsburgh. #winwinwin

CFWS, you have a piece of my heart, all of my sweat and my declaration that I will nail an unassisted pull-up.

When the PNC YMCA closed I was devestated. I started going to the Y in the War Streets, but it didn't feel like "home." I tried out CrossFit (love that you can try 3 classes before paying/committing) and ended up joining. It's only been a month, but I'm starting to be a part of the CrossFit War Streets community. The instructors (Emily, Jen, and Abby) are enthusiastic, knowledgable, ans encouraging. The participants are a wide range of ages, sizes, shapes, and athletic levels. No matter how fit or how out of shape you are, you can have fun and get a great workout.

PS - They are totally not cult-y and no one will talk to yoy about going Paleo.

War Streets CrossFit is an amazing class. Sara is a great teacher, and is very encouraging. The workouts can be adjusted for beginners or experts. Every month you work to progress to a new goal. It is a blast learning new workouts. I have lost weight, and am stronger thanks to War Streets CrossFit at the YMCA. More...

I was really intimidated by the idea of CrossFit but Sara convinced me to give it a shot. I felt welcome as soon as I walked into class and my nerves disappeared. I have had the same experience no matter what class time I make it to. We have a great group of people involved and a fantastic instructor! CrossFit really can be scaled to all fitness levels and everyone is really supportive and friendly. More...

You may have heard that CrossFit is rough and tough and zany, and maybe it is, somewhere, but here it is challenging and engaging, no matter your level -- it's like personal training in a small group. Sara is excellent as heck. Please come join us, especially in the early morning (studies show that's the best time to exercise, and your day can only improve following...) More...

I had always been too nervous to attend any type of fitness class and was afraid that I would lag behind the rest of the group. Sara invited me to a CrossFit class and promised that I would be surrounded by supportive people and that the workouts would be adjusted to my fitness level. After my first class I was hooked! Sara has been super patient with me in my development and encourages me to step out of my comfort zone. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to try a new workout and have fun while doing it! More...

I joined this CrossFit group around the end of February and have been hooked ever since. Sara is an amazingly knowledgeable and supportive trainer and makes sure each class builds off of individual skills and needs. I tried CrossFit a couple of years ago and quit feeling disappointed because the intensity was just too much for what I could do and didn't feel I had the support from either my group or the instructors to get past the hurdles and progress physically. My experience with Sara and the group here at the Allegheny YMCA has been the exact opposite where I Sara and the group will do whatever they can to support my goal achievement. I can definitely notice physical differences from these past 4 months...I'm stronger, more tone, quicker and have more stamina during my running days. I cannot recommend CrossFit War Streets enough!!! If you are questioning anything just join up and give it about a month. Just when you think you've had enough; you'll be able to do the one skill you've been working on and then the whole thing makes sense! More...

Terrific exercise and fitness activities. A friendly and dedicated bunch. From Grace at the front desk, to Jean and Sherrye in the fitness room, to Mary Lou at the annex down the block---these are interested and well-trained staff. The neighborhoods in Belleview, Avonworth and Northern areas are growing, so it's busy. Excellent fitness spot! More...
