Alexandria Pastry Shop and Cafe

While I rate this a 4 for customer service, the bakery chef, or the staff really need to make sure their gluten free menu is *actually* gluten free. My partner has allergies to both gluten and corn, so when a poisoning happens it's not like she can take medicine for it. Serious organ damage can happen, and to say you have gluten free desserts and then those same desserts ends up poisoning her is unacceptable. For any chef making gluten free products, they should know that cross contamination can very easily happen with something as small as flour from other desserts flying through the air. I LOVE the Alexandria Pastry Shop! The pastries are so incredibly good and you will not find desserts like these anywhere else. There is a huge variety for all tastes. My husband loves the Bavarian Creme. I'm more of a Chocolate fan so my favorite is the Raspberry Marquis. Although the triple choc mousse is also fantastic and its gluten free. They also have what I would call tea cakes with all different fruits. Nut bars and very good lemon bars. The pecan rolls are fantastic and I also love the ham and cheese croissants. Nice place. I was on an errand in the area and saw the pastry shop so dashed in and out very quickly with very small breakfast/brunch type items. I got a breakfast egg and vegetable pastry that looks like a quiche cupcake. They did tell me ahead of my electing it, that it was not a quiche but I've forgotten what it's really called. It was good enough but definitely not a quiche... If I were to go there in the mood for a quiche next time I'll just get a slice of their real quiche. I also had their Greek salad to good and it was very good! If it had not been 9:30 in the morning I would have done pastry sweets...which are what I usually go to pastry shops for. Fantastic establishment. The staff is always friendly and professional, the food is great and the place is clean. I started working close by in the summer and pick up lunch for my boss here nearly everyday and one thing I've noticed is that the staff hasn't changed. I have been a fan of this bakery for 10 years, and have not found better baked goods, salads & quick meals anywhere. If you have not had their Thanksgiving dinner you pick up and serve-you are wasting time. I began buying sides years back for the holiday dinner. Four years ago I had a broken ankle, and ordered the entire feast! And since then, I only bake my own pies. I consider myself a pretty good cook, but it does not outshine what I bring home from the Alexandria Bakery! Now I still serve delicious homemade taste without the prep and clean up. My time is more about sharing the delicious meals with family. The family that owns and prepares all the goodies are wonderful and always friendly. It feels like giving your order to your Uncle and knowing Grandma & Grandpa will be cooking.
As long as they continue to slave in the kitchen, I won’t be for another holiday dinner.
