After reviewing several photographers' pictures on Houzz, we decided to work with Alex at Gotham Interiors for professional photoshoots of our installs. We just had our first shoot yesterday and Alex was fantastic. Scheduling with him was a breeze, he was on-time and prepared. He was very respectful of the client's home and possessions. Each shot was composed and run by me before the final pictures were taken.

To top it all off, I had 4 beautiful, retouched photos in my inbox this morning, less than 24 hours after the shoot!

Alex is a rare find, both professional and personable. I manage my family's rental properties, and this was my second time hiring him for a shoot. As with the first time, he impressed me with his knowledge and skill. He easily finds the best angles to use for showcasing your rooms and exteriors, and he takes the time with each shot to ask your preferences for each. Even his photo editing is top-notch; the shots that looked great on his camera screen were even better when delivered digitally, and my listings really stood out as a result. Highly recommended. We hired him to sell our 1 bedroom condo. He was on time and very professional. Gave us some advice re. things to add/remove in the apartment and also valued our ideas and preferences. The price was very reasonable and the photos turned out to be great. Highly recommend his service. More...

I needed a photographer to shoot 2 bathroom projects in NYC I had worked on from Miami Beach, where my design business is currently based. After searching on the Houzz directory I found Alex Staniloff with Gotham Interiors. I responded positively to the look and feel of his photographs and decided to hire him for my photo shoots.
Alex was earnest, polite, professional and very creative and responsive to my ideas and vision for the shoot. Coordinating the project from Miami was easy and when I arrived in NYC to do both shoots on the same day, Alex was ready to go, calm, reassuring and truly wonderful to collaborate with.
Once the shoot was complete, Alex sent the edited photos for my review earlier than expected and the minimal changes I ask be made were completed quickly and without question.
I hope to have the opportunity to work with Alex again on all my NYC projects in the future, and highly recommend him to other Designers etc.

It is my pleasure to recommend Alex Staniloff's photographic services to anyone looking to have their home's photos professionally produced.

His photographic skills were evident in the photo shoot he did for me, at a client's newly completed home in Flatiron, NYC. He was prompt, prepared, clever with the space and also understood the 'prepping/staging' needs that make a good photograph even better!

Also, Alex was truly lovely to work with on a personal level, and the resulting photos were presented in quick turn-around and really well presented. You would do yourself well to hire him.

Q&As

Communication. When you take a photo, in the commercial sense, you are trying to show someone something but composition, lighting and technique all plays into this. If you want to show the immensity of a room, you need to have a wide angle lens on. If you want to show the joy of a mother hugging their child, you need to compose the shot so that the mother and child are clearly the subject - whether that means getting a tight frame or making sure they are the brightest and highest-contrast point. Photography is an art, but it is also a technique in storytelling. Anyone can take a picture but a true photographer can communicate something with their photo.

The client's vision is the number one priority of a commercial photographer. What does the client want to show? What do they see when they imagine this photoshoot happening? Asking clients to give examples of other photos they have liked of a similar nature is a great launch point. Delivery time and scheduling is of course the next issue to consider.

I love the ability to take a vision and turn it into a reality. Photography is the magic of capturing something in such a way that the image, hopefully, reflects an image you have in your mind. The ability to become telepathic with a piece of machinery never fails to impress me. What really makes me love my job is exceeding people's expectations. I love to hear the words "better than I could have imagined."

Freedom. The ability to learn and grow on my own, and the ability to travel and take off work whenever I need to focus on myself.

I'm a client's photographer - I'm not there to build my portfolio of show off any skills, I'm there to get the job done. Communication with a client is vital and I'm constantly making sure the client is happy with the way a shoot is going to ensure they get what they need out of it. Although I like to consider myself an artist, in the realm of commercial photography I am a service provider. It is my goal to provide for my clients what they need.
