Alborz (Persian Cuisine)

Food was good and fresh. reasonably priced. Friendly staffs. Only minor downside is the tables are crammed in too closely due to less spaced restaurant, you really can't have a private conversation without others listening in.

Love this place, a regular spot for me and my husband serving authentic Persian food at really reasonable prices (attention Tehranians: they’ve even got DIZI! ). The grills are delicious and the stews are flavourful and nicely made. They even make their own bread, which is amazing paired with their super creamy yoghurt. Absolutely delicious food. First time me and husband have ever tried Persian, it certainly won’t be the last. The lambs tongue was meaty and flavoursome, the smoked aubergine had a lovely seasoning to it. The bread is enormous, you only need one as it will easily last a couple for two meals. Wonderful hearty and delicious portions of food. Very good quality Persian kebab and excellent options for vegetarians. Service was warm and welcoming as well as being quick and efficient. The freshly baked bread is very tasty. The picture shows soltani (barg and koobideh) and we had some starters as sides which are also shown (salad shirazi, mast-o-khiar [yoghurt] and olives). I made a booking for our whole choir which took up the whole place. Not only were they extremely helpful and accommodating when doing the pre order but they had taken the time to print it out do they knew exactly what everyone was having ( all 25 of us). Alborz is a wonderful hidden gem in Levenshulme that serves a variety of Persian and Middle-Eastern food, located on Stockport Rd you could be forgiven for thinking that Alborz is as unassuming as it's humble exterior suggests. However, what lies behind those modest doors is truly fantastic restaurant both in terms of food and service. The interior is understated and tasteful, furnished with Persian vases and ornate tea sets, the tables are close together to make the most of the limited space available but this lends a refreshing communal atmosphere to your meal.The staff were friendly and attentive and more than happy to talk you through the menu and explain the various dishes.We ordered the Mezze Platter to start, this consists of four different starters, and is ideal if you're not overly familiar with Persian cuisine, the homemade hummus was a particular highlight being both fresh and tasty.We then ordered the Alborz special grill for two, which looks as wonderful as it tastes, succulent skewers of koobideh and chicken accompanied by grilled vegetables, saffron rice and a freshly baked taltoon bread which was frankly quite ridiculous in its magnificence and is so large it came supplied with its own stand. This was a true delight to eat and I can highly recommend it.After all of that, we were overloaded with food and couldn't possibly consider having dessert and so, asked for the bill, which led to true surprise of the evening, all of this wonderfully authentic and fresh food came to a grand total of £42. This reflects tremendous value in a time where a meal for two can often prove quite expensive.Overall I would say that Alborz is definitely worth visiting if you're in the area and if you're not well then it's worth making the trip for. Incredible value for money, incredible and authentic Iranian food, and wonderful, friendly service. The portions were also very generous and I've come home with leftovers for tomorrow. I will absolutely be coming back to this gorgeous restaurant and bringing friends.I don't usually have dessert at Iranian or Afghan restaurants (as I have no space after pigging out on the savoury) but even the pudding here was too good to resist, and i indulged in some rich, warm baklava.
