We met Alan late last year whilst touring a number of Wedding Fairs which had the dual benefit of allowing us to see a wide range of his work on display as well as meeting him in an informal way whilst ‘passing’ his stand. From this initial casual chat, we quickly realised working together wouldn’t be a problem – something far more difficult to gauge from a cold, blind, telephone discussion.Clare and I had slightly differing views of the photographic style we preferred, wanting both the formal portrait element and a more relaxed reportage style to feature through the album. The option to also engage a second photographer through the day was an easy and, for me, very welcome, way to ensure the best flexibility.Ahead of the day itself we met with Alan at the venue for a relaxed pre-shoot, in order to take a few images from which we were to pick one as the initial centre piece for the photo frame the guests would be asked to sign. The pre-shoot experience also allows a little more ‘get to know you’ time in a very relaxed way before any pressure of the day builds up.Our family structure is a tad more complex than the ‘usual’, requiring considerably more variations on formal family groups, but this presented no problems for Alan and Steve who worked through a detailed list of whose who without any issues and whilst one was busy setting up the specific group shot, the other was quietly picking off less formal candid photo’s.Throughout the day, both photographers were very discreet, shooting from the side-lines where possible, whilst managing to capture all the key events and moments plus a good number of novel candid images as well.We have now taken delivery of the Storybook Album and are absolutely thrilled - I couldn’t be more pleased with the coverage they provided.All in all, I can wholeheartedly recommend Alan. I would really recommend Alan to anyone wanting a photographer, our wedding photos are lovely and our album is fantastic! We met Alan at the Audleys Wood Wedding Fayre when we were looking for photographer for our "Just the two of us" wedding there. We were looking for "intimate and low key" and Alan fitted our requirement. The "Prep" went without a hitch and Alan put us at ease. On the day,he was "everywhere but unobtrusive" and got some great, candid "before" shots of myself and husband to be. Alan was completely at ease with our suggestions for shots but added his skill and made some wonderful compositions.The only difficulty we had was trying to narrow down the wonderful shots into meaningful prints for ourselves, family and friends! We saw a few other photographers for comparison, but decided on Alan because he offered a wider choice of options for the day at a reasonable price. From our first meeting with Alan when he came to our show us his work, we instantly took a like to his his friendly and professional manor. There was no hard sell. We decided to use Alan after meeting four other local photograhers. He was not the cheapest, and not the most expensive. The quality of his album choices and photography shone through. It was very relaxed and not at all regimented like wedding photography can get. After the day we had plenty of time and attempts to get the final selection of photos we wanted for our album. We met Alan and his wife Inge at a wedding fayre and instantly liked his work. After meeting with other photographers we knew that we wanted Alan to photograph our special day. <br /><br />We had been lucky enough to win a competition run by our local radio station Kestrel FM to have a dream wedding paid for by Oakley Hall, and when Alan heard of this, he was also kind enough to offer discounted prices<span id="moreReview40516" class="hide"> on his packages in line with the competition. <br /><br />He has been very supportive in the planning and listened to the style of photography that we preferred and took control on the day, ensuring every moment was captured. Alan Bowman was first class. We decided to get married on New Years Eve, and we had been messed about a bit by previous Photographers. Time was running short for us, when we found Alan. Firstly, we consider ourselves very fortunate and lucky to have found him free on that day. But to then discover how well organised and professional he was, was simply the icing on the cake. He came along to the<span id="moreReview36245" class="hide"> Wedding Rehearsal, familiarised himself with the key people and the church. He was excellent at adding his influence to our day. His Professional service really assisted how the day managed to glue together in a really fluent way. We arrived back in the UK after our Honeymoon, desperate to see a record of our day, as it all did pass quite quickly. We were then very very pleased with the final product. The photographs were well lit, balanced, sharp, yet there was very little intrusion. To add, he worked in such a way that he didnât have to use his flashgun in the Church, and the results were excellent. As we were so wrapped up in the happiness of our day, we just went with the flow of events - we think that probably made Alan's job easier for him, but he really was brilliant.
