We were referred to Interior Designer Paulina Grzechnik of Affordable Interior Design, because we needed an interior designer to help me choose my bathroom materials, products and colors for my bathroom. We also wanted tips on styling, such as types of tiles and arrangement. I am writing this review regarding Paulina's work. Paulina is very creative and talented, and we were very happy that we relied on her expertise. She helped us through the entire process and came with us to the tile store, helping us choose our products wisely. We were planning to tile the entire bathroom, including the walls outside the shower. We had specific tiles in mind for the shower walls but were not sure if the colors we chose would work, and Paulina confirmed the colors were good. Since we will be moving in a couple of years, Paulina suggested that we stick with neutral colors and add splashes of color with wall pictures and accessories. She also suggested not tiling the entire bathroom, but painting the walls of the main bathroom outside the shower instead, because it will save us money and be easier for a potential buyer to replace if they want to change the decor. We never thought of using paint, and it was an excellent suggestion. She also helped us with paint colors, giving us specific Benjamin Moore colors that would look beautiful.Once in the store, Paulina helped us choose the mirror vanity and fixtures, tiles for inside the shower, tile colors, went over the different sizes of tiles and helped us with that, and even helped us select the grout color that would look best with the tiles. This is exactly what we were hoping for. What stood out for us is that Paulina is experienced and knew exactly what tiles, paint and colors would match and work. She explained everything to us, the reasons for the selections and why the selections would work in our bathroom. She also listened to our ideas, and when we called with a couple of follow-up questions, she advised us on the phone. We may need additional work re-doing our kitchen and plan to hire Paulina again. I am incredibly happy with my experience with Affordable Interior Design. Stephanie, the designer I worked with, was fantastic. I was impressed with the initial layout she designed during the initial home visit. Stephanie was able to interpret what I was looking for even though I'm sure I didn't do the best job of explaining it. However, I was blown away with the moodboard during the reveal call. The pieces were things I would have never picked but somehow totally me. I was obsessed with 90% of the pieces immediately. Stephanie easily adjusted the moodboard/shopping list for the few items I was unsure of. I really loved the mix of higher-end and mid-range pieces she chose. The result was a living room that makes me smile every time I enter it.I really feel the home visit is what makes Affordable Interior Design stand out. I am very happy with my decision to use Affordable Interior Design and with Stephanie, the designer I worked with. First, the design questionnaire was excellent - especially for someone like me who doesn't know much about interior design. It was able to identify my design preferences by showing different living rooms and asking which ones were to my liking. In addition, its questions served as a great preparation for the home visit, so Stephanie came well prepared for our meeting. Stephanie was very creative, professional, and helpful throughout the process. When she visited my place, we decided on a design together, in an efficient process, where she was able to translate my needs and preferences to interior design decisions and furniture choices. After two weeks, she assembled a furniture shopping list, within the budget I requested. I purchased all items she suggested.The furniture items were sourced from many furniture stores and I felt she did an excellent job finding items that were beautiful, fit the overall design, and reasonably priced. I get nothing but compliments about my place (even from my Architect friend who is quite stingy with design related complements...). Worked with Ashley on a kitchen consult. She helped me to be able to see the design more clearly. She gave me great ideas about the dining area and a flooring suggestion. The consult covered paint to backsplash to lighting and hardware. I already knew the cabinets I wanted so she was able to help with the backsplash color. I have used AID three times, and I have enjoyed each one very much. The first two times I worked with Betsy in my Manhattan apartments, where she helped once with a makeover for my family, and once to stage my apartment for sale. Last month, I worked with Paulina in my new house on Long Island. I liked the fresh ideas offered, and Paulina's explanations for how she arrived at certain items being a good fit for me (e.g., the height, the mix of textures, and pulling colors in from other rooms.) She and I went through a few possible scenarios for my two rooms until we hit on the one that balanced the showcase look I am going for with the reality of how I will use my space. She has a gift for description and explanation—a natural teacher and a warm human being who wants you to succeed. We were lucky to get to work with Ashley Craumer and she was awesome! We really liked that Ashley was looking at our apartment with a fresh set of eyes and giving us really good ideas. I loved Affordable Interior Design so much I used it twice. I worked with Betsy both times - first moving into a one bedroom from a studio and getting all new furniture, then moving into a new one bedroom with a totally different layout and re-using as much as possible. As a bachelor without design sense it was one of the best investments I could have made. It saved me so much time and anxiety about which pieces to pick and every single person who has visited has been amazed by how nicely decorated my apartment is.The process is exactly as described by other reviewers - introductory call, questionnaire, in home visit, and follow up call a week or two later with suggestions. Betsy was incredibly personable and easy to talk to. I was also impressed with how much her suggestions matched my style even though I didn't have the vocabulary to communicate it. Allison worked with us on our house Westchester two occasions, designing our grand foyer, formal living room, office, master den, and nursery. The working model of the company is efficient which is important because we are busy people. I like that Allison was willing to provide "high" and "low" options so we can decide later on which items we want to spend more or less money. She seemed to understand our style very well. The designers at Affordable Interior Design were able to give me a fresh perspective on the floor plan and furnishings.
