Love Aerial Arts of Rochester! I have been going on and off since 2013 after purchasing a Groupon for the sampler package. It was clear from day one Lyra (Hoop) was my favorite apparatus! Love trapeze and aerial yoga as well. I do not need a gym membership while taking classes since this keeps me in shape already. Closest I will ever get to the circus! ;) More...

It's the time of year for people to reflect on what they are thankful for, and get ready for their New Years resolutions. This past year my doctor said the scariest F- word I think a doctor can say: Fibromyalgia . Luckily I have not yet been diagnosed with that, but they say that the nerve pain I get is very similar to it. Apparently Endometriosis and Carpal Tunnel are enough for my body for now. I'm in that mid point of age in life so I had a few bad habits that could be kicked in my fight against pain. Aerial Arts has been a blessing. I started with the beginner aerial Yoga one time before moving to Core Aerial classes. Seeing as I was an active child it was a bit of an eye opener just how out of shape I had become. At no point in Aerial Yoga or Core Aerial did anyone make me feel bad about myself, or the fact that I couldn't YET do something. The teachers would often put an extra flare on a move to show us what we were working towards as a way to motivate us, but never once was I shamed, left behind, left out, or anything one might expect when they're brand new to a group. I've taken Core Aerial more than a few times now, and have gotten into much better shape- though still a long way to go. It was enough for me to take a few classes in the apparatus that had peaked my interest: the Static Trapeze. I had the courage to give it a try, and I'm at least able to do the beginner level skills. I can't wait for next year with the people who work there, and see how close to my goals another year with them gets me. I could go on and on about how wonderful and supportive all of the staff is, or you could come in for class to see for yourself! As Will says: at least you'd be doing something. It's never a bad thing to get up and moving. More...

This place is one of a kind and I am so glad it exist! I do a lot regular gym activities (weight lifting, Zumba, cycling, etc. ) and was bored with it so I decided it was time to change it up! Well hands down this did the trick! I am taking an aerial silks class where I get a wonderful arm and ab workout from the stunts we learn! This class has challenged my muscles, my body, my mind and my flexibility in ways that I have never experienced before and I am thankful for that. I will warn that it does become pretty challenging as you progress further into the sessions and if you're afraid of heights this might not be the right thing for you. Overall, this is a great and unique hobby to participate in and I highly recommend. More...

" I want you to fail until you can do it"

I just finished up my 2nd session of silks tonight. The classes are a blast, but what makes this place AMAZING are the instructors. This evening I heard my instructor tell my silks partner "I want you to fail until you can do it" and it was one of the best things I've ever heard a person in a coaching position say. They don't expect you to walk in and be a rockstar, they expect you to come in, have fun, and push your limits so you can achieve goals you never even thought about setting. I love practicing at AAOR and I'd give them 10 stars if I could

I absolutely loved my experience here!! I took the pole dancing classes at the Aerial Arts of Rochester and while we had multiple teachers for the class, all of them were super helpful. I wanted to try something new over the summer, and all the instructors were able to give individualized help and pause if anyone needed assistance without putting them on the spot. They also praised students for doing things well, allowed us to play music of our choosing as a class, and taught us different styles of pole dancing including a more technically intensive lesson and a more dance intensive one. If you are someone who likes trying new things or appreciates organized sports, this is the place for you to pick up new training! Also, prices are EXTREMELY reasonable in comparison to other locations and you are offered the opportunity to take a one time class or a session, so if you're too busy for weekly commitment, you can still learn a new skill during your off-time. It's a great way to spice things up with your free time with friends rather than going out to eat somewhere or going to a movie. More...

I freaking love this place! I've taken a few class sessions here and loved all of them. The teachers are great, and if you're struggling take time to demonstrate/explain things until you're able to get it down. The classes themselves are kept small enough so each student can get individual attention if needed, and the instructors do a good job of making sure everyone is comfortable with moves before moving onto something else. There's also a really good sense of camaraderie here, not only with the students but the instructors as well. Once you're in a class, it starts to feel like family. You're not just treated like another student, and by your third or fourth lesson you'll see that everyone knows you by name and vice versa. I purchased the Aerial Sampler class with a group of five girls and we had a blast learning different aerial arts.  The class was for 90 minutes and we were split into two groups.  Our group worked with the silk hammocks and the hoops, while the other group did the aerial silks.  We swapped about halfway through. The tricks taught throughout the lesson were definitely achievable no matter your skill set, although some in the class were certainly more adept than others.  Jen and Will were helpful and patient, while showing us proper technique and assisting those of us (ahem, me) who might not have had the upper body strength to make the moves look quite so effortless.A few of us purchased yoga classes and a 5 class pass to try out some of the other classes available.  Barre, trampoline, pole, and other classes all sounded really interesting.  They are moving to a new studio, but in the same general area.  The place can be kind of hard to find, so hopefully they'll put up some bigger signage to show the way! I first started taking silks lessons at Aerial Arts of Rochester over a year ago. It was so fun, I'm still taking lessons, and I'm typically there three times a week. The instructors are great and make sure the lessons are accessible for anyone - there are people from pretty much any age range, and people start at all different levels of fitness. Of course, it's great exercise, and I found myself much more motivated to get fit so I could keep getting better on the silks. The community is amazing and very encouraging. You learn lots of really cool stuff, you'll surprise yourself with what you'll be able to do, and there is always new stuff to learn - after over a year of taking lessons, I'm still learning new tricks. The studio also regularly puts on student showcases, where those who have been taking lessons for a while have a chance to choreograph their own performance and show it off to the public. How do I even begin.... let me give a snap shot: black lights, David Banner's "Don't Play With Me" blasting and 8 girls practicing on their "fireman". The art of pole is not nearly as easy as you think it is... but it's about three times as fun. I know I'll be sore tomorrow and am so ready for more!Jenn (instructor/owner) started the class off with a warm up of stretching and weights. Then we learned 5-6 moves and pieced them all together at the end. The environment was unintimidating, friendly and so much effing fun. Besides Blacklight Intro to Pole, they've also got Belly Dancing (you get hip scarves and a bindi!), Bootcamp, Pole Power, Exotic Arts (lap dancing, strip tease), Pole Ballet and tons classes more. You can drop in for $10 a class. Pretty awesome. There are workshops and also monthly sessions to really get yo' pole on (e'rbody get yo pole on). Plus, the aerial arts studio is next door if you want to get yo' silks on. What struck me the most was how effing terrific Jenn was. During class she came around to offer personal help and then after class, she hung out and talked to us, showed us moves that BLEW MY MIND ("dangerous brian" - omg to the max). HINT: This place is fairly difficult to find. You have to almost park in the CVS parking lot. Then it's at the end of the first building. If you're walking by the horse in a tuxedo (not making this up) you've walked to far. It's at the end of the first building!I can't wait to go baaaaaack! More...
