The first event Sue delivered for us was Train your Brain to be Confident and it went so well we brought her back for talks on Resilience, The Power of Positive and Understanding Motivation. She is great at creating a warm, engaging atmosphere and involving the audience. At the Resilience event she even got everyone moving around the room to feel the difference between the comfort, stretch and panic zones. I always remember that evening - so much laughter and energy made me feel great at the end of a long day.

Some of the comments from our feedback forms include:
"Found the whole motivating and refreshing."
"I enjoyed the interaction and will keep a stronger focus on the positive, not let recent events shadow my natural nature."
"Great session full of really useful information"

Q&As

I love working closely with event organisers so we can tailor my speeches and masterclasses to align well with the event theme and deliver the outcomes you and your audience are looking for. I love making my events very interactive with audience engagement and participation, so everyone can start thinking of how they can use their insights and the information in their own lives and work. I love hearing back from attendees and event organisers of what they are now doing as a result of coming to my events.

In my 1:1 executive and leadership coaching, I love working with people who are looking to make changes in their work, life or business, and seeing the progress they make which they didn't believe they would achieve on their own.

I was inspired by wanting to make a real difference and make working with people my day job, as I found I had spent over 2 months of working days doing this kind of work as an unpaid volunteer, training people in leadership and team work.

At the time I was a research scientist in Academia, so this seemed like a major change in direction. Yet my first job after leaving University was leading expeditions to the South Pacific, so this new chapter in my career was drawing together the leadership journey I had started then with the scientific rigour and understanding of strategies for success I'd gained through my research.

Clients choose to work with me to speak at their events because I collaborate closely with them to ensure that the topic is relevant, tailored to their audience and we clarify how it will deliver the desired outcomes up front. My talks draw on expertise in leadership and development and present a mindset perspective that gives audience members fresh insights. Delegates often tell me that they love the way I illustrate the points with personal examples and stories, especially the sailing metaphor for navigating change and uncertainty and engaging your team so you can bring people with you.

Event organisers always give me very positive feedback on how they've loved my events and it suited their needs exactly.
For example:
I strongly recommend Dr. Sue Mitchell’s talk “Leading through times of uncertainty and change” – the sailing analogy resonated extremely well with the audience of our regional leadership team and the authentic, practical and engaging leadership guidance stuck with them.

More than 8 months later, the topic is more relevant than ever. Hearing our leaders recalling the concepts and messages when faced with current changes and uncertainty is the best evidence that Sue’s inspirational talk had impact and left our leaders with content and experience we can lean on.

…it was so inspiring and gave really practical tips. To commit to doing something and come away with an action plan is a huge value add…. It was very tailored to what we wanted for our audience. … really well prepared, scoped out everything, well-rehearsed and really easy person to engage with from a planning point of view …
Niamh Simms

Sue’s event at Tesco Bank … had real takeaways … exercises to do the next time you will be in a meeting or doing a presentation so you could really put it into practice….
Joanne Seagrave
Senior Manager, Tesco Bank and Co-Chair, Women in Banking and Finance

At Lloyds Banking Group Sue did a session for our relationship managers around Communication for Influence and Impact. Sue ran a really engaging session … about really listening to our clients, and being able to influence through techniques such as storytelling. We got really good feedback from those sessions.
Christine Craig
Relationship Manager, Bank of Scotland (previously Lloyds Banking Group)

… she’s able to engage with every single person that’s in the audience. Everybody’s able to find something that totally resonates with them, and finds ways to change your behaviour off the back of it. … Resilience session was really important for me … to get through my challenges…

In terms of organising events…. you’re very much able to tailor it to what your specific needs are. Because she’s so knowledgeable in her content, and she has a really good grasp of how that will work in any scenario that you are presenting…. It’s a really good collaboration with Sue when you are organising your event on the day.
Vicky Zuiderent

… Sue’s been working with me for over six years. … Sue’s somebody who you can bring in and let her get on with it. She knows what she’s doing which is marvellous from my point of view. You have trust. You have faith. She understands, she gets the culture, get gets the people, and she delivers constantly for us. … You are guaranteed you are going to get good feedback.

My 121 coaching clients find my approach working with mindset brings them far-reaching results more successfully than other approaches they have tried with other people.
Before taking on a new client, I will ask that we have an informal chat by telephone or Skype, to make sure that we can work well together, and have a good 'chemistry' as that makes all the difference to you being successful. There will be times that we need to talk about things that you may not normally discuss with other people, and it is important that we can have a good relationship so you can bring everything out into the open and you can feel heard and understood, as well as sparking up new ideas and solutions.

Yes, I can provide services remotely and online.

I have delivered Keynote Speeches to international audiences via Zoom and MS Teams and have a home studio set up for a professional online event. For some clients, I have hosted events for up to 100 people on my pro-Zoom account as part of the service for speaking for them.

I also travel to deliver keynotes and other talks and masterclasses in person at your venue. I have spoken at events throughout Scotland and the UK, Europe and in USA.

I have an online calendar booking system you can use to book in online planning meetings (whether your event will be remote or at a venue), which will automatically create a Zoom meeting for us. https://aeona.tucalendi.com/drsuemitchell/speakinginquiry

For online 121 coaching, Telephone, Skype, Zoom, Teams are my preferred platforms.
I use video for online coaching which helps to make it a more supportive and effective interaction.

I can also meet people in person for 121 coaching in central Scotland.

I often meet people via Zoom or another online platform saving you the need to travel or meet in a place that could potentially expose you to Covid-19.

When we do meet in person, I ensure that we follow all the recommended guidelines for safe meetings, including choosing a venue that has good ventilation. I often meet people outdoors when the weather is suitable, either at an outdoor cafe or for a walking coaching meeting. Walking meetings can be extremely effective for coaching as you gain different perspectives to when you are sitting at a table or in a cafe.

My coaching approach starts with raising awareness, meaning, purpose, values, strengths, motivation and passions, to create the foundations for you to be more effective, analyse your current situation and clarify where you want to be and how you will get there, both personally and professionally. This values-based purposeful approach creates a core compass to facilitate positive decision-making, sustainable change and wellbeing for both individuals and the organisation. Working in this style raises self-awareness, and your unconscious knowledge about "who I am and what is important to me" into your conscious thoughts. Things becomes clearer and it becomes a lot easier to make choices and decisions about what you really want to do and to deal with whatever issues brought you to coaching in the first place. Occasions where this approach is particularly useful are for coaching around broader purposes such as career, leadership, a crossroads in life, better life/work balance and integration, confidence and a wide range of issues in work. It is also particularly relevant for business owners who gain most sustainable motivation for their business when it aligns their personal purpose. This approach helps me inspire clients to be motivated by helping them find clarity about their own personal purpose, focus on what is important to them, be confident they are doing the right things and to value time they invest in re-energising themselves and doing things they enjoy. Coaching areas that I specialise in coaching include confidence, mental toughness and resilience, emotional intelligence, leadership and engagement. Coaching works best through conversations with a purpose. I use a range of tools that help you develop awareness, confidence and the motivation and commitment to turn your plans into reality. These include a range of frameworks that support you as a leader, manager or executive to focus on priorities, engage your people, create high performing teams, maintain balance in all realms of your life, and many other topics as required. For career coaching, I have a number of additional frameworks that help you clarify what you love in your work, your purpose and aspirations for your career and life, and how to banish stress and find fulfilment. I use profiling tools to help you gain objective insights and self-awareness, including self-reporting style questionnaires and 360 degree feedback. From an organisational viewpoint, profiling at both the start and end of a coaching period can be a useful method to demonstrate the changes brought about by coaching. Rather than being overloaded by attempting everything at once, I recommend selecting profiles that will be most relevant to your situation and what you want to achieve through coaching. (See http://www.aeona.co.uk/aeonaprofile.htm) Some clients prefer a more structured session, others prefer it less so, and I aim to match my style to your needs, preferred learning style and so on. An important part of what makes the coaching partnership work well is a good relationship between you and me as your coach, where we can communicate well, be open and trusting, and generally feel happy to work together. This is vital as we may talk about things which you would not normally talk about with other people. As part of my commitment to creating a good space to talk and reflect, I maintain full confidentiality about our work together.
