If the garage is structurally sound , you have the correct head height of 2.2-2.4 m minimum after you’ve brought the floor level up to 150mm above outside ground level , that there is a dpc installed . I’ll

Assess if the sructure is sound and foundations suitable
If foundations suitable strip out the existing back to Barr brick/block
take out the existing large front up and over door , brick up to match existing , toothing in to existing bwk
If the existing concrete floor is sound you can build up to the required levels top firstly installing s Dpm on to existing than a 100mm-120mm insulation than screed on top to the level required .ensuring you keep the required head height from floor to ceiling.
Fix timber Battons to existing structure all around the perimeter internally with a vertical dpc between Battons and wall to prevent moisture penetration , than fix insulated plasterboard to the battons ( thickness dependant on building regs to achieve req u-value) , insulate the roof using two layers of 150mm insulation the first between rafters the second on top and over the rafters aswell .
Any windows will need to be installed remembering if there isn’t s direct route to an external door from the converted garage one of theses will have to be an escape window .
If there is just gone be a single door from the conversion to the existing house than this should be a 30 minute fire rated door .
Any stud partitions within the conversion can than be installed , 1st fix ,2nd fix electrics / plumbing then take place , than plasterboarding / skimming can be completed followed by decorations /kitchen installations if req followed by 2nd fix plumbing / electrics than 2nd fix joinery . Sign off from building control ( if required ) handover


You need to ensure you have a minimum of 2.2 m from floor to the HIGHEST POINT of the roof to comply with building regs , what type of existing roof structure you have wether this be a traditional roof or the new style pre made trusses ( post mid 60s ) although both can be converted the pre made trussed roof tends to be more expensive as the full roof structure needs to be changed .

Empty out existing space , sometimes old water storage tanks in loft these can be removed if not req , remove any chimney stacks if this is req , install steel to carry any floor joists / new timber work ( sometimes part of the existing roof needs to be stripped back to allow access for steel ) , install timber joists keeping a 50mm clearance from existing roof spa s , form a 30 minute fire break from the floor directly below in the joists , insulate the joists , apply timber flooring , at this point we install the new staircase to give access , strengthen existing purlens , form dormer / roof light in loft , make good externally any tiling , form any stud partition , insulate the roof internally , 1st fix any electrics / plumbing , plasterboard and skim , 2nd fix electrics/ plumbing , 2nd fix joinery , decoration , handover
