How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Most garages can be converted but it all depends on budget and what the client has in mind.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
Firstly we would check the roof water is tight if so we would then check the walls. Is there a cavity or is it single brick.. If single brick we would build a 3" stud wall the insulated with a minium of 75mm. Most garage floors have to be raised to match existing house floor level. We would also insulated with a minimum of 75mm. The garage door would be bricked up to approximately 1100mm then a window fitted. Building regs State that the window openers shall open outwards from the bottom incase of a fire.. Once the electrics and plumbing have been finished the ceiling would be insulated and fire boarded.. Walls would then be plastered boarded followed by a full Skim.
