A consultation / site visit is always first. I speak to the client about their wish list and scope of the project. I put the list to numbers and if necessary do a feasibility study to determine if their wants falls within their budget. We sign a contract for the work and then the schematic design, design development, and construction documents / permit drawings are made. At the end of each phase I meet with the client for approval of the work and to ensure that everything is as they want. After the permit set is complete we enter the bid administration phase where we look at contractors , have them provide us bids and then choose a construction team and then we sign a contract. The construction begins and my team oversees that the contractor is following the drawings to the letter and is on schedule. Finally the project is complete!

I would look at head height first, most of the space that is less than 8' high will be walled in but can be used for storage.

This is why people hire architects! We draw up legal drawings with all necessary specifications that the contractor is legally and ethically bound to follow. The contract between the owner and contractor that the architect draws up is also a legal document that the contractor must follow or else. We protect our clients!
