Great gym! They help you meet your fitness goals and teach you how to properly stretch, eat and sleep. They always make the work out a little bit hard but it's at your own pace.

Action Fitness is a phenomenal place! The staff and coaches helped me lose 29 pounds in 6 weeks and changed my life to a better and healthier one. I could not have done this without this awesome team. Not only did they provide me with an easy to follow meal plan (and shopping list) but their group workouts were awesome and effective.Despite having a prior shoulder injury I was able to participate in the workouts because the coaches modified the exercises to my needs and abilities.I was always encouraged and supported. The coaches are very helpful and professional. Thank you Allyson, Sergio, Jhole and Lorie!I highly recommend Action Fitness! It is a gym for everyone, no matter your age, size or physical condition. I enjoyed being able to use the body analysis scanner and the coaches were all nice. The work outs are all group style and scalable to different fitness levels, no need to be intimidated.

I completed the 6 week challenge today! I lost 21 Lbs AND 7% Body fat!! This was one of THE best decisions I’ve ever made. Action Fitness streamlined the process and made getting physically fit & mentally fit about nutrition and exercise very simple and straightforward. The coaches/instructors are top notch and each specialize in different areas of physical health. If my work schedule wasn’t so crazy I would absolutely join their gym! I had been procrastinating about my weight for a while. I came across Action Fitness online so I stopped by to get more info. My timing was perfect because they were starting a ++weight loss challenge boot camp in a couple of weeks so I signed up. The trainers were friendly and they explained the entire process, it was a combination of hour long workouts and a diet plan. The challenge was to lose 20 pounds in 6 weeks. I'm happy to say I stuck to the plan and with the help from the trainers, I did it. It was a great experience, I feel great and would happily recommend Action Fitness. More...

So, I joined Action Fitness a year ago after my 6 week challenge.   I did not win the challenge,  but lost the most weight I had in a long time.  The coaches are really what makes the gym.   They are very knowledgeable and caring,  and will help you with modifications if you're not able to do all  the exercises.  I had not really worked out in years,  and needed this type of help.  The people there are  accepting and it is easy to go to the classes.  The gym is expensive, the facility is not fancy,   but delivers results. I've been at Action Fitness since November 2017. I started off with the 6 week challenge and only made it halfway to my goal.  I didn't follow the nutrition plan to a T and could have adjusted my workouts according to my coach's advice a little better.  I feel if I did those things I would have made my goal.  But I am happy with the results I did get.  I lost over 10lbs, lost over 3% body fat and dropped two dress sizes in those 6 weeks.  The all of the coaches were helpful and made sure we all used proper techniques while doing our workouts.  They also provided modifications for those who needed it including myself. They also keep you accountable which helped a lot. I am currently recovering from a spinal injury and I believe coming to Action Fitness has helped with my recovery process. At the end of my challenge I decided to stay with them. I still continue to see improvements with myself and others have noticed at well.  5+ stars for the coaches. 5 stars for the program.  4 stars for the facilities - I think it could use a little updating. The entire coaching staff cares about your progress and each one of them are willing to take time to listen to your concerns/questions and provide options to address them. If you struggle with an exercise they provide modifications that work for you. If they think you can do more, they nudge you to do so. They are observing and making sure we are using proper form while exercising. They follow up and stay in contact with you outside the gym. They work hard to build a strong community of members that support each other and stay engaged. More...

So this is my honest review as someone who did the 6 week challenge and decided to become a member afterwards.6 WEEK CHALLENGE:  I get why people are so turned off about the money deposit to do a "free" challenge and it feels like a bait and switch.  I don't personally think this marketing style is the way to go but I also don't think people should be surprised that a full 6 week program of small group training and coaching wouldn't necessarily be totally free.  When I signed up, I was told that it is a 50/50 success rate which I think is honest.  Everyone's body is different and while some people can cheat on their meals and still meet their goal, I followed the program to the T (and did extra), and I did not meet my challenge, even though my coach told me the week before that I definitely would b/c I was soooooo close.  I was super bitter about this but in the end, the money was worth the amount of weight and inches I did lose.  I even had to get new clothes because nothing fit anymore!  So if you're thinking about doing this, you have to be realistic that you may not get your money back.  However, you should focus on if the money is worth it to you to lose the weight (which is the real win!), rather than focusing on winning a challenge.  I personally had tried every other workout class and gym for years and this place actually got me results (and in 6 weeks!).JOINING AFTERWARDS AS A MEMBER:Even though I didn't win my challenge, I joined because I had real results.  It is a pricey membership but for now, it's what I need to be successful.  I have not put the weight back on and I have definitely gotten stronger.  Here are the pros and cons of the membership.Pros:  The trainers are awesome.  It really is like small group training because the coaches are very hands on and are always pushing you.  Also, because this is a small transformation gym and not a crossfit gym, almost everyone is there with the goal to lose weight so it's not an intimidating climate or culture.  Everyone is there to better themselves.Cons:  This is definitely a no-frills gym and it is very expensive. For the price you pay, you would get nicer decor and fancy amenities at other places but there is no shower, towel service, high end toiletries, etc.  This can be super inconvenient if you want to workout before going to work.  That being said, I still pay my monthly rate and go to classes about 5 times a week. I started gaining weight since last three years and I knew that it was not good and even I wanted to join gym classes but I did not have strong will. Eventually my doctor told me that I am pre-diabetic, have cholesterol and high blood pressure. She gave me 3 months to control my weight and sugar otherwise I would be on medications. This was the point when I joined Action Fitness.I started 6 week challenge at Action Fitness and now I am in 5th week. Before starting I thought diet would be hard for me and class would be easy but it was totally opposite. Meal plan was awesome but class was difficult for 1st week. I recommend Action Fitness to change your life as they have impacted my life in a very positive way. I am very grateful and thankful to all coaches specially Coach Lorie, COACH SERGIO and Coach John. God bless all of them including all members of Action Fitness.Update: I just finished my 6 week challenge and got the results of my weigh out. I lost 21.8 lbs and 5.4% body fat. I began putting on weight since the most recent two years and i realized that it was bad and even i needed to join gymnasium classes yet i didn't have a solid will. In the end, my specialist  disclosed to me that i am pre-diabetic, have cholesterol and hypertension. She allowed me 3 months to control my weight and sugar else i would be on medicines. This was the moment that i joined Action Fitness few months ago when i was transferred.I began a multi-week challenge at Action Fitness and now i am in the fourth week. Before beginning, i figured eating routine would be hard for me and class would be simple however it was absolutely inverse. Feast plan was amazing however, the class was troublesome for the first week.I prescribe Action Fitness to transform you as they have affected my life in a positive manner. I am exceptionally appreciative and grateful to all mentors uncommonly coaches who have given me the proper guidelines of how to reduce weight without compromising your health. God favors every one of them including all individuals from Action Fitness.I feel more advantageous, progressively lively and obviously extremely propelled. In contrast to some other weight reducing center, to achieve your objective they truly work with you. Your relegated mentor is truly accessible for your day in and day out, ask him whether you can eat this or not, they continue checking you come to exercises, content you how feel after exercise and so forth. This Action Fitness Center will convey you to another dimension where you can appreciate eating well and a great deal of fun with exercise. I had a ton of fun. My experience with Action Fitness was the best; the staff is very encouraging, my coach kept me accountable and he walked me through until the end (Sergio is the absolute best!) I walked into Action Fitness a year ago weighing in at 263lb, down about myself and suffering from daily heartburn episodes. For awhile I've known that I had to make a change to increase my activity and eating habits, but it wasn't until the doctors told me either lose weight or they were going to recommend surgery to alleviate my GERD, that it compelled me to take Action, no pun intended.I look at various gyms in the area but not until I came to the orientation here did I find a place I knew would enable me to hold myself accountable, regarding diet, exercise plan and most important self accountability.I'm very grateful to this team for the structure and motivation they provide and I trust that add long as you have some incentive to improve your health Action Fitness is the right place for you.I lost 21.5 pounds in the first 6 weeks. I am so happy to have found this place! I saw an ad on Facebook in September 2018 and decided to try their 6 week challenge, which I just successfully completed with a total weight loss of 24 pounds and a loss of 6.7% body fat! At the time, I had already been debating joining a gym to get back into a consistent workout regimen after having a hip injury for several months.Unlike other gyms I was looking at, I chose Action Fitness because of the focus on group fitness that involved strength, cardio, and stretching, as well as the accountability and support (as the challenge mandates that you go to 3 or 4 classes a week, with a coach that you consistently check in with). I loved the structure of each class and wouldn't be able to provide that intensity by myself at a gym, even if I didn't have an injury that I didn't know what to do with. Additionally, as someone who had to learn a lot of the exercises for the first time, and someone who sweats a lot and feels self-conscious about it, I felt comfortable with other people in the classes that ranged from beginners to pros. The coaches/trainers were great. Although I didn't interact with all of them, Sergio, Lorie, John, and Jholeman are really approachable and down to earth. The trainers proactively work to personalize any exercises in your workouts if you need modifications based on injuries/pain, or if you need help doing a certain exercise correctly. The workouts were somewhat like a high-intensity session of physical therapy for me and actually made my injury feel a lot better. I rarely felt like I was just going through the motions and always felt challenged by the coaches, while also being able to go at a pace that was best for any soreness or pain I had. Action Fitness is a bit small but doesn't need to be any bigger. However, sometimes the larger classes (~20 people) were a bit hard for the trainers to manage efficiently such that the atmosphere was a bit less personalized - some people thrive in that kind of environment but I found it a bit overwhelming. Luckily you can see how many people are attending each class when you sign up through the Mind Body app.The classes aren't always at the most convenient times but should be able to work for anyone at least a few times a week, what with their different schedules for Monday-Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I would have probably preferred an 8 or 8:30 group exercise class on weekdays but was able to work with the 9:30 classes. There are also 5:30 classes available for people who need to get to work by 7 or 8 AM. Overall, it is really a great community that I see myself continuing to go to even with my 6 week challenge being over. I encourage anyone interested to check it out! More...

Action fitness is just what is says it is- a true transformation center! 6 weeks ago I embarked on a fitness challenge that I shared on Facebook for obvious accountability reasons. As a former high level athlete and coach I got a monster wake up call this year when stepping on the scale.One day I had it and came across this ad on Facebook of all places. I chose a place bc it had former GMU grads and that is a highly respected Kinesiology Department and it looked intriguing and fun. It is called Action Fitness in Fairfax and it looked to be very supportive of what i wanted to accomplish.The Deal- you pay on front end and if you I reach your goal You get money back or can put towards membership.. The Goal was either 20 lbs or 6 percent body fat in 6 weeks. 20 lbs would be an unrealistic goal for someone of my size so i went for the body fat.The How: High intensity interval training 4 days a week with cross training days on others, high accountability through private Facebook site, a coach holding me accountable always, a very specific eating plan that corresponded with the work out plan. All real food. No supplementation except some good old whey protein shakes which i had once a day. No gimics- no supplements- only hard work. Resetting the metabolism.My Result today 3 days before the true end bc i am traveling for work: 6.1 percent body fat- 8 inches lost between the 3 measurement areas (breast waist hips) and 7 lbs weight loss.I am super proud of myself. What i also got in return is decreased pain in joints, significantly lower inflammation in body, higher self confidence, no cravings and (high low sugar rushes- )etc etcWe spend so much money on jeans, new cars, new this new that. Spending time on yourself is very important. Glad I took a leap of faith with Lorie Foster Sergio Flores John Casto at Action Fitness Private Community. I love Action Fitness!!! I came to them in need of a change. I found them on Facebook, as they were offering a six week weight loss challenge. Since I have walked through their doors three weeks ago, my life and health have become much better. I have more energy and have learned how to make better choices about my diet. This place is legit. I came into Action for their 6 week challenge wide eyed and a little skeptical. I finished the 6 week challenge 12 pounds lighter and with 8.6% less body fat. The results speak for themselves but one thing you can't see are the personable, relatable, great staff and coaches that work there. Everyone is extremely welcoming and want to see you succeed. I participated in the 6 week challenge at Action Fitness, and it was a great experience. The staff there really know what they are doing, and it is the most complete program I have experienced. Starting this off by saying I’ve never been a “gym” person. The furthest I ran was to the fridge. All that changed after I participated in the ‘6 Week Challenge.

This place isn’t just a gym, it’s a community and a resource. Gaining healthy eating habits and learning how to be the best version of yourself, physically and mentally, are two of the many factors that got me hooked.

The team of coaches are motivational, honest, and supportive. It isn’t intimidating! Instead of adding to my anxiety, the classes, coaches, and other gym goers actually helped relieve it.

I never thought I’d look forward to working out, let alone miss going to the gym. It’s exciting to not only see your progress, but the progress of those around you. I can’t say enough great things about this facility and the environment that has been created there!

When I walked into Action Fitness I wasn't planning on joining.  I run for health and to keep my weight down, though that hadn't been going well lately.  There was a group class going on and the first thing I noticed was how happy they looked - like they were having fun. After a PT session with John and hearing what the place had to offer, I was hooked!  This place had the kind of cross-training I needed as a runner.  The workouts were rough at first but it didn't take long before they became fun and physically rewarding.  My core is stronger, my arms stopped looking flabby and I've lost inches around my waist.  My running has also improved especially running hills. Action Fitness has changed my life in so many ways. I came to them for a free consultation, using a wheelchair. After the last of 4 spine surgeries, I was looking for a personal trainer who had knowledge of the spine and body mechanics that might be able to help me get some strength back into my legs and core. Three months later, I have lost 12 lbs. and 15", secondary to being able to lift my legs that I had not been able to do in years. There are numerous areas of daily living that I have used an aide for and I now am able to do these things by myself. The care and personal coaching, that I have been receiving, has far surpassed anything that I have seen from other trainers that I have talked with. The exercises are set up and adapted to ea. person's ability, my health (Diabetes and Osteoporosis) has been taken into consideration when putting together my workout program and watched carefully with each workout, and the accountability and one-on-one care is fantastic! Everyone has an accountability coach who keeps in touch with you weekly. I have just re-signed up for the next 3 months and plan to keep going. I am stronger and more flexible than I have been in years. I can't wait to see what I am able to do in 3 months. More...

I have been with action fitness for the past 6 months. First off, to me a 5 star review means absolutely no room for improvement... (I would have given 4.5 if could). I think most good businesses realize that there is always room for improvement, and with the needs of members always ever changing, John has changed some of his methods as well. That is evolution....I started here with the goals to get stronger, learn how to exercise and if I lose some weight, great--but that was not my number 1 goal. I have been *mostly* pain free (sometimes stuff happens in our day to day lives) which is huge for me! I came into this program in lots of low back pain, primarily from not moving enough, and the rest I need to take to not be in pain, was making me weak. Trainers: John himself is a great trainer (as have most of the other trainers that have worked there) and I have lost over 20 lbs over the past 6 months with doing 2-4 workouts a week (average 3) and just trying to not be lazy the rest of the days of the week. Audrey seems to be up to the task of the morning crew, but I have only worked with her 2 times and it has been good. Of course I do miss some past trainers fondly... But even with their absence I have continued to reach my goals... And part of that is using what is being taught to you, mainly how to improve your nutrition and to put in the time... Just signing up and doing a lame workout is not going to get where you want to go... Do I need to improve further, yes... Do I wish I could do this on my own at home, of course--but until then, I will be here. Now it is pretty convenient for me, about 2 miles away, and I usually hit a 530 or 930 am session... But truly if you tried it here (give it 2 months to really see results) you won't be sorry! More...

As anyone with a bit of business acumen knows, a company can not be based solely on its owner- after reading a few of the negative reviews on YELP I can clearly see some people don't understand that concept. John is passionate, decisive, and knowledgeable about the nutritional and physical requirement to lose weight in a safe and healthy way. With that said, he isn't the whole business and for some of his clients (rather, previous clients) to assume they would be working with him consistently or the same trainers is simply ignorant. The concept of ACTION FITNESS is to build an environment with a specific plan for you to not only kick off your exercise regimen but maintain it. Great gym! I really enjoy the small groups because I know that the trainer is keeping an eye on my form and my effort. This is a women only centered gym and it's purpose is to provide better health and happiness to all the clients who enter the doors of action fitness.I started joining this gym about 3 years ago and I have loved it ever since. The first time I called action Fitness to make an appointment with the owner John Casto, I only had one purpose in mind. To lose weight in the fastest way possible by coming once aweek to the gym. John kindly told me that weight loss is more complicated than that and that I would have to be ready to make a commitment to come to the gym at least 3 times aweek. Now I come to the gym at least 3 or 4 times aweek. The journey it took to increase it from once aweek to 3 to 4 times aweek was not an easy one and many times I have wanted to quit. The one thing that stopped me from quitting was the sincerity of John and how much he believed in me. He really wanted me to lose weight, be happy and to take care of myself. I could tell from the moment I met him that he was different from the owners of big box gyms. Another reason that stopped me from quitting was the community of women that made up Action Fitness.  Here we could be whoever we wanted to be and there was no one here to judge us. We all had a same purpose and we all did our best to support one another and to motivate one another.Action Fitness is a great place if you are looking for a great group of coaches who are always willing to give expert advice and also for those looking for a great community if women to workout with and also to help be accountable.  It will definitely be hard to find this type of quality interaction between the coaches and the members.Thank you Coach John for helping me find myself again and thank you to all the coaches for your encouragements and  also for giving the extra push to those who need it. This gym has been the best experience of my life. I have joined a community of coaches and woman that have helped me achieve my goals. This is a woman's only gym that has both classes and personal training. The classes are high intensity interval training, which has been proven to be the most effective at burning fat even after you leave the gym. I have been coached on not only fitness, but on nutrition too that has helped me lose 30lbs and I have been able to stop taking several medications since I joined in March 2014. I joined Action Fitness in September 2013. Since then I have been able to overcome my depression, lose about 20 pounds (from 176 to 155), drop my blood pressure from 170/100 to 110/80 and drop 3 pant sizes as of today (from size 14 to size 8). There are so many things I love about Action Fitness. The coaches and staff are always positive and encouraging and they are ALWAYS so, so, so patient with me.  I don't know how they do it, but the women that go to the gym are just as encouraging, noticing small changes and are fun to be around.  The workouts are challenging, but manageable, and you go at your own pace.  The coaches are constantly watching you to offer advice, adjustments, and reminders to be safe, which is super important to a beginner like me!  I have more energy, sleep better, and my health is better than ever.  And best of all--I have lost 50 pounds in six months!   ...and, weirdly enough, I can't wait to go to the gym.   I *love* this place! Action Fitness was the right choice for me.After high school came the sedentary years of college and work, which packed on the pounds. I've tried to eat healthy and attempt to change my lifestyle multiple times but nothing stuck. So here I was, 40+lbs overweight at 26 years old and had recently got engaged and told myself "I have to look good for my wedding" which started me on my journey.After talking with one of my neighbors, she referred me to Action Fitness (thank you Foruz!) and went one time and was hooked. The trainers have personality, they push you just the right amount, they have promotions and realistic goals that motivate you, and so much more. The workouts are challenging, but it's meant to push you - you don't get results otherwise. They also provide meal planning and support for Whole30 and other healthy eating programs. All of the members are down-to-earth, friendly people and the sense of united goals and community is very rewarding (you don't find that in those big gyms). Since starting in June of 2014 and applying the Whole30, I've lost 30 lbs, dropped 3 sizes, and finally feeling like my old self again (I'm so happy I can finally show my fiancé my 'old self' - something he's never seen before). I will say, if you do not like to sweat and give 110% to the workouts - this gym is not for you (maybe try running or yoga). I love Action Fitness!! I have been a member there for a little over two weeks. It is unlike any other fitness experience I have ever had. The members are very supportive of one another; encouraging each other through their challenges and sharing in celebrating their achievements. My Personal Trainers are the bomb diggity!!! In addition to their expert knowledge and training in the studio, I receive regular e-mails and Facebook posts from them with regard to what's happening in the studio, health and wellness information, nutrition tips, feedback on my progress, words of encouragement, etc. outside of the studio. It is obvious that they really care about me, and want me to succeed at achieving my goals! If you are looking for a women's only gym that will deliver real results, than look no further! This is the only fitness program that I have tried, consistently stuck with, and most importantly SAW RESULTS! I love working out here! What makes this program different from any other program that I have tried in the past is the sense of community and support from both the members and the trainers. What continues to impress me is the fact that the trainers genuinely care about you and go above and beyond to make sure that you reach your goals. They make the effort to answer any and all fitness questions you may have. I have never enjoyed going to the gym. It is always something I did begrudgingly, and while I was there I felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I used to go to the big gyms and do group classes, but didn't see results like I wanted to. I joined Action Fitness at the very beginning of 2014 after seeing a friend have wonderful success there. I started out doing Personal Training 2 times a week, with the option of attending unlimited group classes. It was only a matter of time before I upgraded to Unlimited Personal Training and I go 4-5 times a week. I stopped obsessing about the number on the scale and started appreciating the strength that I was gaining, the toning and muscle definition that was happening, and my general overall happiness at being active,working hard, and looking so much better in photos and in my clothes. John and Don are fantastic trainers, fun to be around, and for the first time (ever) I can say that I truly enjoy going to the gym. In fact, I drive all the way from Alexandria to Fairfax just to go there. They encourage me, give me lots of tools to succeed, and are always there for my questions and willing to help me do more. It's not just a gym, its a community of strong women who support each other and cheer each other on, and trainers who really, really care. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. More...

You cannot replace hands on training especially when the person in charge cares about your results.  That is the kind of service I get from Action Fitness. I agree with Jayla and Amanda - and Meg is right too. It used to be in a church room (with no attachments to the church) and honestly; I was so focused on the exercises that I did not matter at all. They have now moved to a Studio by the Walmart all on Lee Hwy. And it is improving each week you go there. John (the owner) is always, actively, finding ways to serve his clientele the best form he can.  His team is amazing - and adorable! This place is absolutely fantastic.They will also hold meetings/webinars/shopping trips to help you with nutrition as well - besides the total attention of a certified personal trainer at every session!!At gyms, you are pretty much on your own... Unless you pay a fortune to have a personal trainer there with you. At Action Fitness, the attention, friendliness, professionalism, and wide variety of things you can do is way more ample than regular gyms.I, personally, can not (repeat: CAN NOT) exercise by myself: I do one and half minute and I am dying!! At Action Fitness I tap myself in the back many times to see how much I can do... Which I never knew!! The staff is fabulous in complimenting your progress as well... Or the 'lack' of it, if they feel you need help in any areas.P.S.: The 'help' on the exercises is so that you don't 'kill yourself' at first and never want to come back! Ok, I just read the review from Meg T. .   She's not accurate.... It's in a studio NOT a church. I have been going to Action Fitness for 3 weeks now and I love it. I feel like it's better then going to a operation gym like Life Time. 1) it's all female, so you don't have to worry about guys checking you out like a piece of meat. 2) It's an hour work out and it's a great work out. 3) Who cares about the website 4) It's a great place for a beginner Not for a gym rat. I've been doing the Action Fitness program since early August and it really works for me.  I started out in decent shape (working out about three times a week) and of normal weight, but I couldn't keep up the motivation to take my fitness and weight loss goals to the next level.  The Action Fitness program combines your typical small group bootcamp style classes with nutrition monitoring and occasional one-on-one assessments.  John keeps up an accountability level by tracking your food journals and attendance and he will email you if you stop showing up.  He (and his other instructors) are also real sticklers about form, so you are less likely to get hurt than you would in a gym or large group class setting. Since I started, I've lost nine lbs (and I started at a normal weight, so that's really amazing!) and I can do over a dozen military style push-ups, twenty-lb shoulder presses, etc.  I really see a difference in my fitness level and in my body.  My reasons for four stars instead of five: limited number of classes per week and the journal monitoring has gone down in recent weeks.
