We had a family session, it.was. awful.

There were tears, bribes, and mild threats made. I left frustrated and sure there were no frame worthy photos.
I said we were never doing that again.....
I got my photos back today, and I cried.

5 stars are not enough to explain how amazing Acorn and Oak is.
Mat has this way about him that makes every session just feel like an adventure.
He has a genius mind and tricks to get you to act natural, and laid back, even when you feel uptight and stressed wanting the perfect photos.
Even if you have a "disastrous" session (kids won't sit still, your husband is beyond awkward, the weather isn't cooperating etc), I promise you that will not be the outcome when you get your photos.
I have nothing but the highest praise to give.

I can't say enough great things about the experience my son and I had with Mat. He was so patient and willing to chase after my little one who never stops moving. My son lives with a severe disability (Autism Spectrum Disorder) which makes things more difficult. Mat was able to capture the essence of who my son is which has never been done before. I can't believe how beautiful the photos turned out and I would whole hearted recommend Acorn and Oak Family Photography. I was given a gift I could have never imagined. Mat is pretty much a photo miracle worker. When we arrived at the Conservation Area for our 2016 Christmas mini's we were late, hadn't eaten breakfast, had to leave our coats on because it was too cold to go without, and were generally miserable. As a doula and childbirth educator, I have a great passion for all things birth-related and have long admired the artistry of birth photography. Despite this admiration, I had never hired a birth photographer myself for several different reasons: I worried about the impact the presence of a photographer might have, I worried about the cost, and I worried that the resulting photographs would be awful.
When I found out I was pregnant with our fourth child, I began reconsidering my apprehension about birth photography because I had a strong feeling that this would be my last birth and I really wanted it to be captured in a way we hadn't had with our other births. I am a private person and I have a particular set of beliefs when it comes to how I give birth, so I knew I would have to find a photographer who could honour my wishes before welcoming them into my space.
I contacted Naomi early in pregnancy and asked for a meeting just so we could discuss birth preferences and photography. She was happy to make time for me and spent our first meeting listening to my concerns and asking questions so she could better understand my vision. She encouraged me to take my time in selecting a photographer and I contacted her several times with additional questions over the proceeding days, to which she always provided a prompt reply.
Once I had made my decision to hire Naomi, she set up a meeting in my home to test the lighting conditions (I was planning a home birth lit only by candles). This was done both to familiarize Naomi with my house and to reassure her and I and we were both very happy with the results.
When it came time to give birth, Naomi arrived shortly after being called at 1am. She had invited me to call her much sooner in my labour, but this was the timing that felt best for me. I didn't even notice Naomi enter the room. Her presence was gentle and quiet and did not disturb me at all. She provided extra support when my 2-year-old got a little rambunctious right around the time I was transitioning. Naomi spent a couple of hours with my family and I after the birth, during which time she helped out with the kids, snacks, and tidying up, as well as taking photographs. Most appreciated!
Despite having a very busy schedule and a family of her own to take care of, Naomi had our photos ready for us very quickly and it was a joy to view them with my family. It is truly incredible having a third-person perspective of this amazing event! Having Naomi's services was well worth the extra cost; the photos themselves are truly priceless.
From the time we first met until the finished photos were delivered, Naomi was kind, courteous, and professional. Her integrity and spunky spirit made it very easy to connect with and trust her. Naomi seems to have a great "eye" and was able to produce some remarkable photos of my daughter's birth. I would recommend to anyone who is preparing to give birth that they consider hiring a photographer. And Naomi would be at the top of my list. More...

Beautiful Naomi was my birth photographer for the birth of our first born, Ruby Jay. Naomi was exactly who we needed at our birth. I can't imagine anyone else being so invested in our "out of the ordinary" birthing efforts. She blended in when needed and played a crucial role active role when needed. My birth was completely natural but I still missed out on a lot of moments that she captured and was able to share with me. I was so happy to watch my entire labour and birth once it was all over. I've always loved birth photography, but had never seriously considered hiring a birth photographer myself as I've always preferred my births to be as quiet and low key as possible. I contact Noami because I saw her job !!! The first time that we meet her it was like I know her for ever , then when it was time to have our baby she come to the hospital she was in the delivery room with us during the all process and it was great she was very professional she did her job (amazing job by the way) so happy to had her in such a important time I have pictures video thanks to her ! !!! Last night while taking a walk with brogan I was reflecting on my birth story and how much I love telling it .
And I realized that telling your birth story can be one of the best (or worst) moments in our lives and no matter how many years go by you will never forget a single detail about it .
Mothers can retell that story till their blue in the face and never get tired of it cause it's theirs.
And with every great story , it is always better with visuals . Illustrations to bring the story to life . To add detail And emotional volume .

Where to begin...I considered Birth Photography with my son because I wanted to have that moment with me forever and my daughter who was 9 at the time wanted to be in the room and I wanted her reaction as well-this brought me to Acorn and Oak Birth Photography.
After meeting Naomi for the first time, I felt so comfortable with her, like I've known her for years which made my decision so easy and luckily for us she was available to take us on-we sure lucked out BIG time! Naomi not only felt like someone I've know for years but she made my daughter and husband feel super comfortable as well and my daughter LOVES her.
She went above and beyond always checking in with me to see how the pregnancy was going and offering support and guidance throughout pregnancy, birth and even after the birth. She is a wonderful, kind, knowledgeable and talented women who we were lucky to have with us during this wild ride-I couldn't imagine doing it without her!
I would highly recommend Naomi and would absolutely not hesitate to have her capture another birth for us if we are able. I am in love with our photos and video! More...

Where exactly do I start!?!? Honestly a 'birth photographer' isn't the right name for Naomi. She really is so much more then a photographer. Let's call her the Super Amazing Birth coach / the most fantastic photographer of labour & birth!

Naomi became such a valued part of my birth plan and my birth support from the day we met. Honestly most days it felt like she was my biggest fan, always encouraging me to reach my goals and achieve my dream birth. She truly became such an amazing friend.

As for her work.. well clearly she's flipping amazing! Not a day has gone by where I don't re live the moment when my daughter was born. You really cant put a price on happiness. And the amount of love and happiness that fills my heart when I look back on these photos is indescribable.

I really can't thank you enough. I really do suggest everyone hire Naomi as your Birth Photographer. Birth happens so fast, and everything seems like such a blurr... what an amazing feeling it is to be able to re live that beautful moment you welcome your loved one into the world!

I have to admit mine and my husbands initial perspective on the idea of birth photography were a little conflicting. After much persuasion I convinced him that although the birth of our child, the moment we had been working towards for the past five years, was immensely personal I also didn't want to have to relive the experience from someone else's perspective. I wanted to be able to recall my own experience, through the eye of a lens.

We didn't know what to expect or how we would feel having someone with us during a time of such vulnerability, witnessing our most initiate moments. Naomi is so much more than a photographer, she was a part of our birthing team. She was never a witness to our moment, but a part of it. Naomi was a constant support to both me and my husband, she tended to us at times when a reassuring voice or ice chips were needed and faded into the background during other times when Mark and I needed it to be just us, allowing for the intensity of the moment. She was by our side, an active participant, all the while capturing every aspect of our journey leading to the arrival of our son and his introduction to the world.

Mark's perspective
Days after we received our video, that Naomi had compiled, we sat in our living room moved to tears as we watched. Although Mark was resistant at the idea of birth photography he will now openly express that "hiring Naomi was well worth it, and is glad that despite resistance we went ahead with birth photography".

I hired Naomi for my birth as I regretted not getting anything done for my daughter.. I was a bit skeptical if it was worth it, and had trouble justifying the amount.
But after she made my video and I received all my photos I didn't regret it for one second.

The photos are raw and wonderful.. the video is by far my favorite...it perfectly played out my labour in a wonderful timeline and something I can share with people.

I knew when I got pregnant I wanted to somehow capture the birth of our firstborn child. I didn't even know there was such a thing as birth photographers until I googled it! haha. When I met Naomi I knew right away this is what I wanted. My fiance and I felt so supported and comfortable with her. She was with us through the whole labor & delivery.
