Absolute Martial Arts

I was 5'9" , 180 lb guy with a nice beer gut and ate super unhealthy way back in 2008. I hated going to the gym due to the monotony of working out. I saw a couple of UFC fights and realized that those guys were in really good shape and figured I should try something else out to lose weight. I figured I would check out a couple of MMA schools in St. Louis and called around. The first school I tested was Absolute Martial Arts. I didn't even bother going to the other ones and signed up immediately. 2-3 one hr classes a week quickly turned into 2 classes a day, 4-5 days a week. Let's just say the fat fell off and when I finally got transferred out of St. Louis for work, about 15 months later, I weighed 160 lbs. I could actually start seeing some abs which was surprising. The thing that really helped is that the instructions were amazing and there was great camaraderie. Granted that I got my butt whooped and submitted daily, but I felt amazing afterwards. I learned new techniques every training session and actually returned some of the butt whooping and submissions.I continued my training wherever I travelled and ended up having 3 pro fights in Brazil and getting my brown belt in BJJ. After transferring to Chicago, I still continue training daily and 10 years after leaving St. Louis, I returned for a work visit and was welcomed back to this amazing gym with open arms. It was great seeing Ana, Keith and Eric Jackson who was actually teaching the BJJ class. Eric and I started at the same time and it was great seeing how far he had progressed (now a black belt) since we both started as newbies back in the day. With work in St. Louis, I'll be coming back to town pretty often and plan on swinging back in to continue my journey in Martial Arts. More...

Stop thinking and just DO IT! I enrolled my son here just for the heck of it. He wasn't into it at first but we kept going. And the more he went the more he loved it! Now every time he gets a stripe on his belt it is a cause for celebration. The environment is friendly. And Mrs Ana is beyond awesome with all the children. 10/10 recommend. More...

My children made new friends, learned something different ever day, and had a great time. But just warning you after their class they won’t stop talking about what they did. My 5-year old son has been taking classes at Absolute Martial Arts since April 2019 and LOVES IT. We all do! Ms. Ana teaches and expects respect in both verbal manners and actions, in addition to fundamental martial arts skills. The waiting area is family friendly and fellow parents like to visit and have no problem with my four other crazy kids running around during class (which is separated by a barrier, so siblings don’t get in the way). I hear a lot of people say the same thing. There is nothing like the first place you learn martial arts. I trained here a long time ago. I really accomplished a lot at this place I actually wanted to fight. But I walked out of training one day and the next morning I shattered my ankle in half on a dirtbike and that was it. Very depressing. Anyway I attempted a couple of places local to me since I live an hour away from absolute and I don’t know if it was because I was older and a combination of it just not being absolute martial arts but it just did not click with me I never got into the same mode I was in when I was at absolute. I was Older, more broken and the other gyms just did not seem like home. Keith Brock is the man everywhere I have ever been I have been complemented on my striking. They always ask where I learned. He was always the perfect balance of safety and aggression for me. If me and another guy wanted to spar really hard he was cool with it. My 8 year old daughter started attending Absolute about 6 months ago, and the experience has been so positive we recently also signed up her 5 year old brother. It speaks volumes that BOTH of my kids WANT to go to class, and ENJOY it so much. Miss Anna is wonderful with the kids, teaching discipline along with skills and my daughter has gained much needed confidence. I started taking the kickboxing classes they are great. It was a little hard at first, got sore in some muscles I didn't know I had. But, I really glad I got started. Absolute Martial Arts and the crew were nothing less than amazing! We had them come to our summer camp with 30-40 kids for Ninja Warrior Week to teach the kids moves. This week will be our first promotion ceremony, and my daughter is very much looking forward to it. We started at the beginning of October, and my daughter has learned so much already, including self-defense and how to handle frustration. My daughter has been going to absolute for six months it has been great for us and her. She has learned discipline from her instructor Ana and learned how to respect others. The instructor Ana has spent time with my daughter one on one showing her how to take her time and learn things even if she doesn't get them right the first time. This has instilled confidence in my daughter which she has shown at home an in school. My daughter is excited when I tell her we are going to karate tonight and she has made a couple friends in class also. Absolute has made a huge impact on my family. Before joining, I was intimidated by kickboxing classes but after one class I realized my fear had no merit - the folks at Absolute are like family now. I am stronger, healthier, more confident and happier than I was before, and I have made some amazing friends. Even on those days I don't want to get off the couch, once I get to the studio my whole attitude is changed and I am pumped. Absolute is always adding new classes, new sessions, and holding events & contests for us to stay engaged. It's been over 4 years for me and it never gets old!

My two sons joined me over a year ago - one in Jiu Jitzu and one in kids class - and both have shown tremendous growth. Ms Ana and the kids class have brought out the best in my 1st grader, teaching him respect, determination and pride in accomplishments. We love Absolute! More...
