The lighting at my wedding reception was beautiful. "Doc" took the time to create a custom monogram based off my husbands families' brand. The music towards the end of the night was great and the party went so long we went over time with our venue (whoops). Even though it was storming, music and speeches could still be heard. My only regret is that I did not go over music with the DJ prior to the wedding reception and we had some incorrect songs played (like our first dance). Fortunately the DJ was quick to correct the problem and most of my guests had no idea anything went wrong! More...

We have a great experience with Russ. Everything went as promised! He played the songs we wanted, skipped the parts we wanted to skip and read the crowd well.
He talked when he needed to and let the guests carry the show when they were the stars.
He rolled with the punches when the weather forced some changes, played a surprise song or two. And he definitely had the best car at the event.

We were pleased with the service we received from Russ, he was very helpful in making sure our ceremony music was perfect and the monogrammed light. I would just recommend being very specific, because how else will he know what you and your guests want to hear? I was not specific enough I think, otherwise he would have done great, I was just bummed to hear some of the played out songs like Low by Flo Rida and nothing really newer. My only negativity is that he played our first dance song twice throughout the night, making it a little less special and at the end of the night while we were getting ready to do our private last dance and guest were exiting, he was promoting himself for about 5 minutes which I found a little unprofessional (If someone wants to know what DJ I used they would ask). I used AbileneDJ.com (Russ Wristen) for my wedding in October 6, 2012. We could not have been more happy with the value, quality and professionalism. I was given a long list of questions to complete along with a section for me to pick 30 songs I wanted played. I have known Russ (aka Russell) Wristen since I was in the second grade. We graduated from Early High School together a long time ago. We have kept in touch over the years and last summer, he DJ’d my daughter’s wedding and reception. He was awesome. He had all kinds of music! He was very professional, attentive to the couple’s special requests, and DEFINITELY kept the party going. If he was playing a song and no one was dancing, he would immediately change to something else to keep things moving. I have had many family members and friends tell me what a fun wedding we had. What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
People interaction and music variety. In our consultations prior to your wedding day and night, we will speak at the length about the types of music that you want. Your guests also like to be informed of upcoming events so they’ll know what to expect in the coming hours. And for your wedding reception, you will appreciate the DJ who does weddings for a living, who is professional in his speaking delivery of announcements. He must have a voice that people will enjoy listening to and can understand without straining to decipher what they are hearing. That’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long.
How would you describe your ‘style’?
I am capable of providing any style that you may want. Energetic, laid back, informative.
I’ve had couples ask for an interactive performance where I frequently encourage guests family and friends to get onto the dance floor. Others just want me to play the music and speak very little.
Mostly I do a mix of the two. I’m not there to be the superstar. The focal point of the night is the couple, they are the stars of the evening.
I do get compliments that I keep the audience informed about upcoming events.
I’m told by many clients they have been to *other weddings* where the DJ didn’t say anything and people quickly got bored. Also, I’ve heard that some DJs don’t take requests, or worse, won’t play the music that the couple and guests wanted to hear!
When you contract my services, I’m going to ask that you provide me with up to 80% of the music requests for the evening.
I want YOU to provide song suggestions for the prelude and the wedding ceremony. And then all of the reception special dance ceremonial events, like the grand introduction, cake ceremony, couples first dance, the father daughter and son mother dance, the bouquet toss, garter toss, anniversary dance, money dance, last guest song, sweetheart dance, send-off song, and on top of that, 20 of your favorite songs.
This is YOUR wedding and reception! I want you and you’re invited guests family and friends to dance or hear the music that YOU and THEY want.
That said though, some couples just tell me a genre to play — whether that be rock ‘n’ roll, jazz, disco, red dirt, and/or a mix of country, Texas country and western, hip-hop, oldies. You name the style and genre and I will play it!
My music library is vast and readily accessible online. When you contract my services I will give you a link to find many of the popular clean songs for weddings, receptions, first dances, and other events. You tell me what you want, and I’ll make sure it’s played.
What do you love most about your job?
People. In this business you must love interaction with people.
And the personal satisfaction of knowing, that at the end of the night, when you ask the married couple client how you did, and they respond favorably and are willing to provide a reference for anyone who ask.

What inspired you to start your own business?
I was always the class clown and one day I walked into a radio station and I got hired. From that point forward that’s all I ever did, entertaining people, not just on the radio, but during personal appearances both radio and television. Along the way I started a family and wound up in the big city of Dallas. I worked several radio stations there. But there came a time when I decided to retire from the big city life and move my family to a more comfortable country setting. That’s when I decided to open up my Wedding DJ business that for the last 25 years has been my steady employment.
I would not have lasted this long if it were not for the steady flow of clients that call me on a monthly basis, asking if I could do their weddings.
And I would love to do yours, too.

I do wedding receptions for a living.
I started out in radio broadcasting in the late 70s through to the 90s and at the same time did clubs and parties. In 2001 I opened up my wedding business. And typically I do about 50 - 75 weddings every year.
While most weddings take place on Saturdays, — Fridays and Sundays, even Thursdays and Mondays, are just as popular.
I also employ three other professionals, each of who have over 20 years experience, providing the same level of entertainment expertise.

We are available by phone, text, or by video services of your choice for the initial consultation. And while we offer our services in an established area, we are willing to travel the State of Texas and beyond if you want us there for your wedding and reception party!
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We provide sanitized microphones for the minister and other parties involved in the wedding and reception ceremony. We also have masks and sanitizer available for our personal use should we be called upon to do so.

Instead of confusing multiple prices, I offer package bundle pricing with my most popular options. Additionally you can add extra components that you may be interested in, like up-lighting, dancing-in-the-clouds, signature gobo monograms, indoor sparklers, photo booth, and others.
Up Lighting
UP LIGHTING is the most popular option for Wedding Receptions, Proms, and Special Events. Utilizing small coffee can-sized fixtures, our wireless up lighting can reproduce millions of colors, shining your wedding colors up walls, tables, and entrances, anywhere you want to enhance your venue interior location with your special colors.
Signature Monogram Gobos
The Signature Monogram Gobo is a unique personal lighting effect that surely will be an attention getter at your wedding or special event. Using a small quarter-sized disc, I can include your initials, names, date or other minimal information and project this through a special lighting fixture that will shine either on the dance floor or on a wall.
Wedding Ceremony Services
Your Wedding Ceremony is the beginning of a new life for you, the joining of two people to become one. You will want to share this glorious moment with your family and friends. To help you do so, we provide our Wedding Ceremony Production Package. It provides for all of the professional elements that will ensure that everyone has a part in your wedding day. This service includes a professional sound system, wireless mics, clean ceremony music of your choice, and an experienced technician/emcee, for up to ninety minutes, to include The Prelude, The Ceremony and Recessional.
Reception Ceremony and Dance Party Services
Following your wedding ceremony, you will appreciate a knowledgable professional Emcee DJ on the microphone as your guests await your appearance for the grand introduction following pictures.
Our Reception Ceremony and Dance package includes the Emcee DJ, a sound system suitable for the venue size, colorful dance floor lighting and the clean music that you will want for your celebration.
If all you need is a great light show and a professional entertainer who will help guide your event from start to finish, this is the package that you want.
The Reception celebration continues for up to 5 hours, no later than 11pm or until the couple leaves, whichever comes first.
