There are few places in the world offering so much history in a single location. Partly a church still in daily use, and an extraordinarily beautiful example of gothic architecture, partly a shrine to almost a millennium of great Britons: Newton, Darwin, Kelvin; Purcell, Elgar, Vaughn Williams; Dickens, Dodgson, Hardy; and scores of kings, queens, and admirals. Very good self paced audio tour. Only downside is that photography is prohibited throughout. More...

A great day out. Fantastic place, bursting to the seams with history. The newly opened QE Diamond Jubilee Gallery is the best five pounds I ever spent. Such a calm tranquil place full of interesting artifacts. See a corset worn by Elizabeth 1st, a hat worn by Nelson. Many and varied funeral effigies. This place must be visited. The staff are wonderful too!!! Sorry no photo attached - very strict about that - no photography allowed. More...

Westminster Abbey is incredible. You don’t have to wait long and it’s a really interesting experience. You pay 22£ as an adult and the audio guide is included. It is really accessible, they provide you with headphones and it takes you round the whole abbey without being aware of other tourists. A lot of high profile people are buried here. It was really great! More...

I'm sad that I couldn't take pictures here. This place was beyond beautiful. To see the rooms of so many important figures in history is just incredible. The audio guide was very well done. Everything was marked clearly, and you could listen to scrap sections or just what you wanted to. If you get the chance to go, you should. More...

This was my first trip to London. I traveled from Texas to London for one day to spend it with my daughter on her birthday. She was doing a semester abroad. While she was in class, I had a bunch of time to kill. I wanted to take in as many sights as I could in the allotted time that I had. I had mapped out the optimal route of the things I had to see. And Westminster Abbey was on that list as well as on my route. I didn’t have time to go inside to take a look around like I did at Westminster Cathedral. But I made sure I walked around the grounds and admired the beautiful architecture. You don’t have to be a religious person to admire and respect such a glorious piece history.
The earliest known recordings of the abbey date back to around the late 960’s to early 970’s. Since King Henry and William the Conqueror had their coronations at the abbey in 1066, every English and British Monarch had their coronation there as well. (Except Edward V and VII, who were never crowned) The Abbey has so much history it would be very difficult to put it all here. I highly recommend the next time you are in London, more specifically Westminster. Be sure to stop by and visit Westminster Abbey. As I said, you don’t have to be religious to respect the beauty of this church. In my opinion, you will not be disappointed.

Wow! This has sure made my London experience outstanding! The staff is extremely friendly and just the culture of the church of the commonwealth is welcoming! There is so much ancient history with the abbey! And the best part is that there are self guided tours with headsets, so you are quiet and respectful to others. More...

We went here when spending 4.5 days in London. We loved it. The audio tour was included in the entrance cost and again, it was worth it for sure. We like the go at your own pace style of the audio tours in general. My favorite spot is the tomb of the unknown soldier!

There is plenty to see here and we spent 2 hours. We even got to sit through one of the hourly prayers.

It’s quite a beautiful place and seeing the coronation chair was very cool!! Be respectful please. No pictures inside!!

Visit Grants Tomb and the wonderfully opulent grave of Merlin. They say this place is haunted by Jolly Lord Chutney. Generally frowned upon to demand to see the Royal Loincloth of Richard the Endowed. Whole thing is made of plastic. Wonderful example of Lego architecture. More...

Interesting church and not insanely busy during the off season. Attended a guided tour for an additional £5 which took us some places normally closed off to the public (eg the choir). It's relatively large and you could easily spend several hours, though I wouldn't recommend more than 2. No photos are allowed, and the docents actively enforce that. More...

This is such a special landmark in London and it's easy to see why. From the outside it's beautiful and quite imposing, but it's not until you enter the abbey that you truly appreciate the size of it. A good tip is to attend a free service to experience it in all its glory. We signed ourselves up early and got tickets for a Christmas morning service which was a really unique experience. Another tip is to see this beauty lit up for Lumiere London. More...

Amazing place, plenty of historic pieces, and thumbs of great men and families.
Some say it is hunted.
You cannot make photos inside, its forbidden (not sure why), though I managed to make a pic from the door that takes to a small courtyard.
Take a look at the thumb of James Cook, it is very close to where the queen sits.
Also, it is interesting to see the old heraldic flags of the aristocratic families of England.
Even there's a reference to Oliver Cromwell here. But not very good..
Please take the guided tour.

I really expected this to be a great visit, but was not prepared to be completely overwhelmed by Westminster Abbey. The place was not packed, but was easily has several hundred people in. The architecture and presence was equal to the great churches in the Vatican. The history and presentation is outstanding.

The staff. Wow! Nice, professional, courteous. I really like the fact that every hour they have a short prayer and moment of silence to further establish that this was, is and will be a place of worship, not just some historic site.

Fantastic.

Stunning. Hard to find a better word. Absolutely stunning. The architecture, the sculptures, the splendor. The only downside of these huge cathedrals and Abbey is that with all the memorials and tombs, it feels more like a cemetery than a church at times.

Definitely a must see especially if you have the London Pass! Definitely use the audio guide which comes in dozens of languages and the pamphlet. Do the short audio version which takes 90 minutes but totally worth it! It goes over the architecture, history, kings, queens, coronation chair, and famous people s' graves! You cannot take pictures inside but prepare to be amazed! Not open on Sundays due to services. Also get there early or right on time otherwise you have to wait in a long line. More...

If you are into history or architecture or art or religion or by any chance all of these that is a MUST SEE in London. A church that will take your breath away and make you feel small and probably insignificant as this place is living history. The wait time to enter can range from 15 minutes to 45 minutes and the entry fee is around 20£ (less if you are a student) but it is all worth it. Inside you get a "mobile guide" with a few language options to choose from or participate in a toured guide. More...
