What makes a great website?
To make a great website you must ensure you are getting the message out clearly to the visitors in a concise and aesthetically pleasing manner. Visitors need easy navigation that is simple to follow and to find what they are looking for. At the same time we want the goal of making them feel it is right to take action and contact the business.
We must also look to have as secure a site as possible in today's environment, mobile friendly and providing search engines relative content that helps get searchers to visit the site.
Another important aspect is the load times and careful use of images throughout the site. While having great imagery is appealing once a visitor gets there, search engines require text to index properly to provide accurate results to searchers.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
All things are created twice, once in our minds and then actually built. Toward that end we need to make sure we have the "what" the site needs to deliver in clear concise English not tech speak. Who the intended audiences are that will be using and visiting the site. We call these business requirements that will drive the design and build of the site.
So we want to know what they like/dislike about their competitors site. How can we leap frog those competitors? Do they have a bullet list of wishes for the site in the form of I need to be able to do this or that. What are they trying to achieve with the implementation of this site? What would cause this to be a complete failure?
