A1 Lofts & Extensions designed, planned and built a first rate loft for my family and I. They were professional and courteous at all times. The planning was efficient and approval from the Council quick. Construction had to be undertaken with a party wall agreement as both my neighbours were in dispute to the build, with one of them clearly objecting to any construction whatsoever. Under these tense circumstances A1 Lofts took the requirements on board and implemented them professionally. The construction workmen were a very hard working and punctual team who kept things very tidy. The loft build was solid, attractive but posed several challenges due to its small size. These were overcome with ingenuity born from talent and expertise developed from the team having built a lot of lofts. The supervisor (team leader) was always in contact with us and friendly. It was easy to trust him with our house when the particularly messy and disturbing parts of the build occurred. I could not have been more pleased with my work crew. The support from the office staff at A1 Lofts was equally good and forthcoming. The company kept to budget very well and were flexible when changes had to be made. I thoroughly recommend A1 Lofts & Extensions with 5 stars because it is a company that will work with you to build a beautiful loft. Our home refurbishment and extension are now complete and we are unbelievably happy with the final result. A1 realised our dream. We would recommend them without reservation. Having previously wasted hours and spent too much money with architects and potential builders, we were recommended to consider A1. From the very start, Steve Mills and Rikki-Lee understood our ideas and skilfully suggested possible additions to our project. A1 took control of everything from drawings, planning permission and build, allowing us to feel involved and reassured about our home development. Our loft conversion has just been completed and we simply can’t believe the final result. It’s stunning and all our neighbours have been round now to have a look and I guarantee others will follow our recommendation and use A1 Lofts. We researched 3 local developments in nearby streets and even though their quote wasn’t the cheapest we chose them based on the work we had seen and the recommendation of the one of our neighbours. Ricky-Lee worked very hard and late with us on several design meetings and she was brilliant and always available. We signed and everything in the contract was meticulously carried out over a 3 month period inspiring us to do even more renovations on the lower floors. The team themselves were awesome both in terms of how long hard and skillfully they worked providing advice options and in depth reviews every day as we progressed and meetings most Saturday mornings. So a huge thank you to the project lead Ruth, the team leads Mirak & Kris and the likes of Richard Pavel Roman and Jarek, as well as many others. The transformation is amazing and it has turned a typical 3 bed Victorian house into a totally new property.I too would recommend A1 Lofts and we are already working with them on how they can develop the kitchen and lower extension area. We engaged A1 to build a loft for us. The team they provided has been top notch. Darryl as team lead with his main man Peter makes a very good team. They were able to complete the entire project in under 7 weeks. This has been really impressive. Darryl was really good with communicating the various stages and very detail oriented. There were the usual challenges of coordination, but it was very effectively managed. I would also make a special note of how courteous the entire team has been. As a project manager with 20 years experience working on large construction projects, I have high expectations when it comes to building work, especially in my own house. Having thoroughly researched loft companies and gone out for 5 quotes, A1 were considered to be one of the best. Whilst A1 were not the cheapest, I am of the opinion that you get what you pay for, so I made the decision to go with A1.Having decided to go with A1 I then set about finding out who their best team was, and discovered it to be Rich Conlin. Rich Conlin, Mihai and the rest of the team carried out the work with true professionalism, a wonderful attention to detail, always ensuring that the customer’s needs are put first. Rich was always available to take a call, or he would call me straight back if he was busy. He provided the best solutions on how to overcome the challenges that cropped up, always explaining the proposal before proceeding. Rich took the time to understand what we wanted from the loft space, and I really appreciated his advice when my design requirements may not have been the best way of doing things. I am quite particular with my requirements and the standard of workmanship that I expect. Rich and his team exceeded my high expectations and the build ran very smoothly from the first meeting right through to completion. This has continued with the quick rectification of a couple of minor snag items that have cropped up. I wish it was as pleasurable to deal with all builders, both at home and at work. A1 were not the cheapest quote that we received, but I chose them because my research told me that they were the best. This has been backed up by the quality of the loft that has been completed. A1 have recently completed our Rear Dormer conversion for us. We had Rich Conlin as our project manager who was extremely professional at what he does . From the offset, he laid out a clear schedule and timetable for the works which was carried out as promised. The entire project ran very smoothly, to plan and finished on time. Rich also had a good eye for detail and was very helpful in suggesting ideas to improve the design as it developed.We also found his team and the various tradesmen to all be very polite and considerate to us and our home, ensuring the site was always left clean and the works undertaken with minimal disturbance to us. We have our loft done by A1 - recommended by two colleagues. From beginning to end, went more smoothly than we could ever have anticipated. Clear and transparent dealings with Ben ( conception of idea) Melissa et al ( planning and operational issues pre-build) Jenna ( build manager ) and Damian et al ( build team). All held in a tight safe ring by Steve (owner) and his office team. Always someone in the office to manage questions and issues, ( which there inevitably were) and a sense that everyone genuinely cared that we achieved what we wanted. Very reassuring payment framework, with no hidden costs from outset, and we now have a high-spec, good value loft room and new bathroom. We now using A1 for our extension. This is a different type of build project - much more complex - Steve and his team recognise that and the close working on the detail is reassuring - and Moragh ensures that emails/phone calls/ queries are always responded to . Additional 2 points : visits to the show homes we went to were very very useful / helpful ( Ricki- Lee especially) . We recently used A1 for our rear extension and are extremely happy with the results. The builders and project managers were all very hard working and pleasant to work with. Any small problems that we had were very quickly resolved with no issue whatsoever. This is the second time that we have used A1 as their standard of work and efficiency was so good on our loft extension 7 years ago we were very keen to have them back again. We needed a minimum stress build and A1 delivered. Needing to extend into our loft (to accommodate medical treatment equipment elsewhere in the house) due to serious illness, we chose A1 to carry the work out for us. The company understood our situation and went to great lengths to minimise any worries. There were a couple of issues, as there always are with building projects, but these were dealt with swiftly and professionally. We decided to proceed with A1 Lofts & Extensions following a recommendation from a friend. As part of the project were able to specify the Project Manager (Rich) and the build team run by Mihai who had undertaken the build at our friend’s home. The project was delivered on time and pretty much to budget (there are always unexpected things that crop up when renovating a period property). Rich enured that the project was completed on time and his experience allowed us to obtain the maximum amount of space possible. Mihai and his team were incredibly courteous, hard working and unbelievably tidy. We finally finished our loft with A1 a few weeks ago, and all we can say is this company is second to none. My husband and I did at least 3 months worth of research on loft companies in and around the M25 area. We had sales people round so that we could interogate them! Visited show homes to see their work and speak with past clients. A1 came up trumps every time. Ricki the sales rep is great. Genuine, enthusiastic, accomodating and patient . Gene the Project Manager was fantastic and so was his colleague Michael who worked on the project from beginning to end. They were very clean, quiet and professional. They were courteous to our neighbours, and even protected their car from dirt by covering it every morning. We would ABSOLUTELY recommend A1 Lofts for a loft conversion. A1 have a very efficient process and are exceptionally clear at the outset about what's involved and what is and isn't covered in your contract. I would have liked more of an input into the design side, but it may be my fault for not pushing on this. Some ideas we put into the plans, the builders later told me couldn't be done, so we ended up with something a bit different to what I imagined at the outset. That said, the agreement of the contract, plans and getting the relevant consents was made very straightforward by A1.I was led to believe at the beginning that I contracted with A1 and they sub-contracted all the different trades who work on the build. That's not technically correct, as the contract works as an appointment by the client of A1 as project manager and a direct appointment between client and each tradesman. In practice that didn't really matter, as A1 dealt with everything and everybody, but if there had been any problems, it would be frustrating to have to pursue claims against individual trademen.A1 say that you will have a choice of the team who works on your property, but in practice you get who they have available at the relevant time - I asked for references, but never got them. Again, this didn't matter, as everyone working on the build did a good job, but it might have mattered if they hadn't. We had a bit of a hick-up with one tradesmen, but my A1 project manager sorted that out pretty promptly.The build itself started quite slowly, which was frustrating - I imagine the team were also finishing off a build somewhere else. The main part of the build, however, went quickly in accordance with the six week timetable A1 had set out. Ernie and his colleagues who made the main shell, the bricklayers, plasterers, electricians, plumbers and roofers all worked incredibly hard and did a skilled and amazing job. They were all approachable and pleasant to deal with - happy to take into account what I wanted to achieve. They were also very careful to ensure any concerns of our neighbours were allayed. The end of the build even more frustrating than the first couple of weeks with everything going very slowly to get things finally finished - partly my fault because of some problems with a bathroom fitting, which I was required to supply. It then took ages to get the scaffolding down. Getting time from the second fix team to work outside the main contract (wardrobes etc) proved impossible, as they were too busy on A1 jobs elsewhere.I think the problems I have identified above are probably inherent in any project and must be looked at in context. Overall A1 has created an amazing new space for us, which we absolutely love having as a main bedroom with en suite. The loft conversion has transformed our house and the way we live. A1 have produced a beautiful loft for us. The work of the build team was excellent and overall we are very happy with the build. This would have been a five star review had it not been for a couple of shortcomings. Firstly we had asked for design involvement in the stairs. This didn't happen and I feel A1 as the project management team take responsibility for that. Secondly there were issues with the scaffolding that was left in place for too long. However having said that the build was done beautifully and we are extremely happy with the results overall. I am happy to recommend them. After having our loft conversion completed, we would have no hesitation in recommending A1. We were pleased from the outset. I am always skeptical of the phrase 'no hidden charges'. As we moved through the design process and finalised the spec, we were pleasantly surprised by constantly hear 'that's included'. We feel fortunate we were allocated Rich as our project lead; along with his team including Marius. With any build there will always be some hiccups. Fantastic! We had our loft completed by A1 (with Rich and his team) a year ago and we couldn’t be happier.From start to finish a great project, managed to a very high standard. The planning phase was a dream with all the hard work done by the office team supported by extremely confident administration. An initial problem with a neighbour was managed by A1 with the perfect approach, managing party relationships very well. Once onsite Rich and his team put us at ease and were professional and knowledgeable in all areas of the process. I was recommended A1 Lofts and Extensions by a neighbour who had used the company and was thrilled with their new loft extension and the speed / finish achieved. I found the sales process with Ricki Lee very straightforward and honest, with clear documentation and process and a number of visits and consultations. Ricki also gives great advice based on her experience of builds which I found invaluable. The planning process was was handled very well and I was able to discuss directly with the A1 architect a number of times the various options and all ideas and options were illustrated, A1 were keen to make sure I was completely happy with the proposal. There are always a number of contacts who are looking after your build and they are very responsive to any questions. I was really impressed at the personal involvement of Steve (owner) who wanted to make sure I was comfortable with everything as he understood that I had never done a large project before. Our team, led by Sebastian, were excellent professional hard workers and all aspects of the build were to a high standard. Our finished space was not the same as the initial design because the loft space available decreased during the course of the build. A1 did a loft conversion for us and although more expensive than some competitors they definitely get the best use out of your space. Our build was project managed by Kevin who was amazing and made the whole process very easy. He liaised with each of the subcontractors and was very conscious of our neighbours as well as going above and beyond with certain elements.The reason for four instead of five stars is that this is a build and therefore there were a couple of issues or annoyances. One was the scaffolding company (not A1s fault) and the other is little things that I didn't realise were included or needed to be mentioned sooner (eg Kevin was not aware we wanted fitted cupboards until we happened to mention it). A1 built our loft conversion back in 2009. We have been extremely pleased with the result and it has given us much needed additional space in our relatively small house. We recommended A1 to our neighbours, who also had their loft conversions done by the company. About 3 years ago an intermittent leak developed in the roof around 1 of the vents, which turned out to be faulty. The roof was still under guarantee so we asked A1 to repair it, which they promptly arranged. After a couple of false starts (the original subcontractor twice turned up to look at the problem but never actually did the work - not A1's fault), we finally got the leak sorted a few weeks ago. A1 Lofts installed an attic conversion in our house 8 years ago. We were very happy with it until a leak occurred causing cracking in the ceiling. Despite the length of time since the installation, they came out, fixed what turned out to be a cracked roof tile, and made good the internal damage 3 months later, having allowed the area to dry.
