About

I offer extra tuition for Maths, Science, Design Technology and Engineering from Key Stage 2 upwards. I also work with Home Educated children and can offer a full range of subjects as required.
Prices are £20 - £35 per hour, for individual tuition, depending on subject and key stage, however, I believe that education should be for all so unwaged adults and children of unwaged families are just £10 per hour.
We DON'T offer English at any level.

my son attended A little extra help tuition for manths, about 9 months before his GCSE's. In that time his grades improved and his confidence grew massively. He approached his exams with confidence that we had never seen in him before. I'm sure without Amanda's tuition this wouldn't of happened. He came away from every exam reassured he'd done the best he possibly could. Having one to one tuition really helped and I wouldn't hesitate to send my other child to Amanda if I thought she needed the extra support. More...

Last year Amanda brought my daughter’s maths on in leaps and bounds in just a few months. She’s just started college and maths is now her favourite and easiest subject.

My son struggles to sit still for longer that 5-10 minutes, he has had one lesson with Amanda and he managed 40 minutes fully engaged and didn't want the lesson to be over! Amanda is a fantastic tutor and my son has been talking about his maths lesson all week! He can't wait for the next one! Definitely recommend. More...

Q&As

I love working with students and getting that "light bulb" moment when they have been struggling to understand something and it clicks. I like that every day is different and that I can stretch myself using different teaching techniques with each student.

I was a full-time teacher for 7 years but illness and a stifling classroom environment persuaded me that it was time for a change.

I have 7 years experience teaching in both Secondary Schools and FE Colleges, teaching Design Technology, Maths, EAL Engineering, BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering, HNC Engineering for Toyota and Functional Skills in Maths and English, I also have experience with teaching autistic and dyslexic students.
I have a BTEC National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, BEng (Hons) in Automotive Materials, PGCE with QTS: Design Technology and full DBS clearance.

Services

I will come to your home to discuss your needs with you and your child, I will do my best to help but if I can't I will be honest and tell you so. This also gives us a chance to see if the prospective student and I get on, there's nothing worse than sitting in a room for an hour with someone you don't like!!

Initial diagnostic assessments give me an idea of the level that the student is working at and any gaps in knowledge that can be used as the basis for lessons. These are done online so if you have access to a computer they can be done at home before the first lesson and so are free, if you need to do them in the teaching room then it's £10 per hour for as long as it takes to complete them.

Education should be for everyone so children of unwaged adults can have tuition at a reduced rate if you come to the teaching room.

Do you struggle with Maths or Science? I can help you make sense of them and increase your skills.

Lessons via Skype only, as no physical media is supplied then a discount rate applies. PowerPoints and worksheets can be sent and used via Skype but would need to be printed out at the students home.

Make sure that your Year5/6 child is ready for Secondary School core subjects.

Make sure that your Year 7-9 child can keep up with the curriculum.
