Great to dance
Great spot for food and dancing!
Good entertainment place
It's a cool lil spot I lost my ID there and was wondering did anybody find it?
Ya están mejorando el sistema de seguridad, antes no les importaba si uno estaba sola, y alguien molestaba mucho a una, ellos no ponían atención ya ahora uno, busca ayuda y sí toman cartas en el asunto
The alfa concert was lit
Love come to dance here
Always alot of fun!
Happy hour every day 3 to 6 for the week $5 appetizers all worth it my son and I go every week the margarita is very weak I'm not even sure if they put alcohol in it. A few months back had a terrible waitress our experience there has changed and we keep coming back this is a place I would definitely recommend you have many options for the tacos as far as meat goes their jalapeno poppers were great and crispy there Chipotle wings spicy AF! Delicious the problem is they run out often and are not always available to order. A good friend of mine Christina who used to be a promoter here brought me here for my birthday couple years back it was a great experience of food was delicious and authentic so aside from the happy hour I have had dinner their drinks that night were a lot better then the margarita that they serve for happy hour which on are at the end of the day seems like a rip-off being that I'm pretty sure there's no alcohol I rarely drink and this place their margarita I can only say is weak. Save yourself the $10. More...

Buen lugar para divertirse y relajarse
We love this place. Easy to pop into and grab food in the restaurant anytime. Best tacos and salsa in town.
Un buen lugar para divertirse
Excelente comida Mexicana en Minneapolis! 100% recomendable
Pretty decent Mexican sit-down restaurant. The tableside guac is amazing and well worth it! They have a large menu, so it makes choosing difficult. The margaritas are really great and they have good happy hour deals, if I remember correctly. More...
Quiet. Good food. Not a long wait. Will go again.
The foods were excellent. But, it was TOO SLOW. It is a good place if you are not in a hurry.
We had a great lunch.

Man this place is great. I just went here last night for the first time and not only was the food and drinks good but the people who work their are super friendly. After me and my company got done eating we went upstairs where we heard a bunch of music playing and I was shocked to realize they have a full nightclub. Nothing but good vibes. Will definitely come back here in the future. More...

Delicious food. Super flavorful meats. I got tinga, barbacoa and carne asada tacos. Gobbled them up
This is wonderful authentic Mexican restaurant with a wide range of food from simple tacos, tamales, burritos and fajitas to more exquisite Mexican fare. The drinks are proper and well-priced. The atmosphere is welcoming for everyone- whether you're drinking &/or dining solo, on a friendly or romantic outing, or with family or a large group you'll be treated like family. Excellent service and staff. The lighting is perfect too- always a plus in my book. I can pretty much guarantee you won't be disappointed. More...

Best Mexican food in the twin cities ...must try everything on menu
Food was amazing! Service was wonderful!
Service, food, drinks, cleanliness, all were absolutely amazing. My favotite Mexican restaurant.
Great food fast service at dinner time. Returning customer.
I found this place by accident. Normally I do not eat MX food outside the southwest or MX. This is good MX food and it is a very good food. Three types of salsa/relish with fresh chips. That is just the starting of a good meal. More...
Pretty solid Mexican food. The prices are inexpensive, the service is prompt, and the margs are large and delicious. The barbacoa is perfectly done, and for 12 dollars it comes with rice and beans and a generous portion of tortillas. The chips and salsa were both good, and the salsa was firey hot. This isn't particularly authentic but the presence of cochinita pibil and mole make me think there's a lot to like and an authentic backbone. I'll be back for the happy hour, which claims to have 2 for 1 drinks and great prices. More...

The food and service at El Nuevo Rodeo has been fantastic each time I went in. We each had individual dishes this time as opposed to sharing the meat platters.. everything was so fresh and cooked to perfection! If you’re a seafood lover, there’s a 7 seas soup and plenty of other good dishes. If you’re a meat and veggie lover you’ve got lots and lots of options. The fajitas were amazeballs! Yesterday we went for my boyfriends birthday and they gave him a special birthday surprise! I highly recommend this along with the rest of my friends and family! More...

I had a wonderful, yummy Birthday dinner. Not 5 stars. It would be more helpful if the server was more bilingual. My husband is hard of hearing, So it was a bit of challenge to talk with the server. So worth the visit, some of the best Mexican food in town!! :) More...
Like not love... open till 4 am on weekend... wish the food could be a little more authentic and not fake or trying to be to fancy keep it basic and faster service
Everything is made fresh in house and tastes great. They have the best chips and salsa in the TCs. I hear it gets pretty crazy late.
Loved the food and our waitress was lovely!

The food was AMAZING!!!! The waitress was not attentive at all. At one point my party was the only business and we still had to get up to ask for a beverage and then our check (after 25 minutes). The waitress also did not clear a table near us and still had not cleared it when we were leaving. More...
In my opinion, a true test of a Mexican restaurant is mole. I dream to have great mole at a restaurant, but it has never happened. El Nuevo Rodeo does above-average restaurant mole, but still not like home made. But, I am an American sandwich lover. So, I always stick to the Super Torta Rodeo, and ask them to make sure there is enough chipotle sause on it. I never leave hungry or dissatisfied. More...
Great food and service! Real Mexican cuisine not fake American/Mexican food... I recommend this place if you like Mexican food! The inside is amazingly decorated. So much thought must have been put in to the food and decoration. More...

One of my friends and I go here all the time! We absolutely love the food!! Best Mexican dining around!!
Wow! Wonderful authentic food. Great service. Will definitely be back for more. More than enough food for your money.
We love the fresh flavors of this place. The service is friendly, if a bit slow and erratic. The tableside guacamole is the best in town. They pay attention to details, and the lowly sides of rice and beans are homemade and flavorful. The tacos, tostadas, nachos, jicama salad, Cactus salad, tortas and fajitas are all favorites. More...
A good place for pisteadera and to bailar
Best place ever
This restaurant is in my neighborhood, and we have eaten here on a handful of occasions. If you go during the day or early evening, the place will be nearly empty. That won't matter, the service is always pretty bad. They are never rude, but they are never attentive. They have salsa dancing and karaoke at night, and that seems to be the real draw of this place. However, I do think that the food is tasty. I typically order the House Citrus Salad with Jicama and Shrimp, which I would highly recommend. More...

I had a restaurant.com certificate, we finally went to El Nuevo Rodeo. Online it said we could sit outside, but it would've been too noisy. It's on Lake St., there are 2 sidewalk tables, and it was 6:00 pm on a Friday. I thought the 2 salsas and marinated/hot peppers were really good. I later cut up the peppers and added them to my meal. We asked our very nice server, Ramon, for recommendations. I did get the stuffed tilapia he recommended - it was delicious. My husband tasted my fish, and said he's definitely getting that next time. He had a combo plate, which is pretty much what he always orders at a mexican restaurant; he said everything tasted fresh and authentic. El Nuevo Rodeo had some different menu items that sounded tasty - we'll try other plates next time we go. And it was good enough that we'll definitely bring our adult children along. I didn't think it was expensive. $2 for iced tea. Desserts $3.50. More...
Here it goes!!!!! We were given a coupon for $50 off a $100 purchase spent here so after two years of hanging on to this coupon we finally decided to give this place a try as we love Mexican food. 7/8/16 a Friday night and we had a choice to sit inside or out on the patio, I like to eat inside on warm evenings due to mosquitos and such but as we were seated inside it was just too loud and when we asked our server to be moved outside he couldn't hear me...so that was proof we were not crazy,,,,however the music made me feel like I was back in Mexico so yay!!! Outside seating only had a couple tables and we liked the feel and view of downtown Mpls, our server apologized for not speaking very good english and I felt like a chump for going to an authentic Mexican restaurant and can only spit out a few words in spanish. With some language barriers we plowed through the drink order which both came out perfectly made. The server (Christopher who we found out his name when we got the check and that he was brand new to the industry) brought us chips and two salsas and spicy pickled veggies. The appetizer was the Queso and flour tortillas,,,wow!!! Not like we were expecting, it was made for flour tortillas, not chips!! *put a spicy pepper in the tortilla with the cheese for full flavor!! Main dishes, mine first as I like to save the best for last,,,combo meal, two chicken enchiladas with red sauce and a fried chicken taco, there were both rice and beans but because our server and us couldn't quite communicate I believe the chef/cooks just made an executive decision to add a bit of both. I loved it all, very fresh and clean. Next up,,, the sizzling fajitas with steak and chicken....okay WHAT!?!? Mexico, New Mexico, all over the country my guy orders fajitas and holy cow he finally finished his whole meal for the first time in my 18 years with him,,,,I was astounded,,,but understood because he shared a few bites of that amazing, clean, fresh and wonderful dish. Second drink for me! Lime Margarita on the rocks,,,good as the first. So as we finally are ready to leave, Christopher who has been relentlessly helpful and as courtious as he could be as we cannot seem to understand each other, we already knew we couldn't use the coupon to the amount of $100 to achieve the discount because our total was only $51! That to me in this area with the stellar service, location and quality of food made us so pleased that we chose El Nuevo Rodeo for a Friday date night taking us away from our St Paul normalities. Sum it up, do not expect normal, common mexican foods from the suburbs, this is REAL, if you don't know the real food, this isn't for you. I disagree with others saying the prices were high,,,,no....they were low/normal considering the standards they keep. Service was great and Christopher was amazing, I am taking spanish lessons asap because I want to talk to him next time I visit!! Enjoy!! More...
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town! The food is all excellent! If you like mole the chicken mole is to die for - best mole I have ever had! Every dish needs a side of plantains of course. The food is great and the service is too! Our server, Neyda, was awesome! She suggested the perfect dishes like the shrimp Cerviche and she was attentive and helped me when I spilled my beer. Thanks for the great service Neyda! More...
A great neighborhood Bar and restaurant. Support your local businesses. We go there once a week. Great food and service. Gracias
Our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Twin Cities. Family owned with a wide variety of tasty meals whether you're looking for seafood, fish, chicken, pork, vegetarian, etc. I'm a big fan of mole -- that peanut buttery chocolatey slightly spice sauce -- that when done well is heavenly. Theirs is heavenly. The consistency is like a light cream sauce so it isn't chunky or gritty like you find elsewhere. The fish and seafood are always excellent. They have several seafood dishes designed to be shared by three or four people. I've never tried them but someday. Someday. A nice treat at every meal is the shot of tequila that comes with checking in on Yelp. I always make sure to checkin upon arrival because, as Mary Poppins said, a shot of tequila helps the medicine go down. More...

Muy chingon el lugar los años que estuve por allá no me perdia ni un fin de semana animo saludos desde Carolina del Norte
Hermoso lugar disfrútenlo mucho
I had the smothered burrito and OMGI think I may have gone to heaven! It came out the size of a small child with rice and refried beans on the side because I needed to eat for a family of 4 this day I guess. I had the ground beef, a personal fav style burrito, and it was loaded with cheese. Like extra extra cheese, oh my goodness, they knew their way to my heart and stomach! There was no skimping or cutting corners here! I also had a Cadillac margarita and it was in those old fashioned margarita glasses you used to see in Mexican restaurants but you never see anymore. Its like a fish bowl on a stem? You know the kind... anyway, it was perfect and large and potent. Needless to say, I swaggered out of here full, tipsy and quite the happy camper! Awesome, awesome food and service! The only reason they are missing a star is there was no music or any ambient noise. It seemed strange to me. I would have really liked some music, we sat near the kitchen so it was sort of loud. I am not sure if they normally don't have music but El Paradiso is above them and it was close to their opening time so I don't know if they keep their music off because then we did hear the music from the night club about halfway through our dinner.Food and Service deserve 5 stars! Me facina esta luger me siento de lo mas agusto ,siempre complasida con el rey del karaoke y la hence bonita que nos atiende Los invito q no visiten y pasen un rato muy agradable
I've been eating here occasionally for a few years now, and I really like it. The service can be hit or miss, but the food is pretty good overall. The most recent visit was an off-service night (one server, a few tables of patrons = slow service), however, the queso fundido (without chorizo) was surprisingly good - hot, bubbly, cheesy, strips of roasted poblano peppers - substituting tortilla chip for the offered "flour tortillas". Next, we ordered ceviche (something we've had on previous occasions) and it was as good as ever. Sharing these two appetizers later on in the evening suited us just fine as "dinner".And, per usual, my Cadillac Margarita on the rocks was way too sweet and I requested additional slices of lime to squeeze into my libation to tone down the sweetness. This is a very unusual restaurant. You need to know what to order. I was very fortunate to have my beloved elder daughter bring us 18 months ago--a serious Yelp participant. She knew exactly what to order so I have had very delicious highly specialized more intricate Mayan traditional authentic Mexican food. I love the decor: old worn comfortable hand made intricate iron work on the backs of the almost hand made wood chairs, textured brick red vinyl tacked down on all table tops, MAGNIFICENT pottery from the region just south of Mexico City, high ceilings very Texas comfortable relaxed peaceful ambiance with hard working Native Mexican people slowly eating visibly savoring their raw seafood cerviche ( fresh lime home made salsa cilantro) in a tall cold glass, their giant bowl of their version of "boulle base". This is not a fancy noisy eatery. It has never been crowded when we were there. The food, not especially deeply seasoned, is very very much revered by their native people. This is more serious authentic TRADITIONAL Mexican cuisine. Many dishes may feel simple basic. Some bland to our palate. But the seafood is excellent quality fresh, subtle seasoning. I have taken their giant burrito ( to go). Nowhere near what I could find in California, little bland. But good delicious quality fresh ingredients . Their mole was ok. Not as smooth deep rich as I've had in Great Barrington, MA, or at La Cucarracha at xmas ( special/ best menu then). These are the wonderful dishes I would recommend. This menu is more " exotic" complex than a typical "Mexican restaurant"--I am still exploring their menu. The margaritas are well made. I have been told their guacamole is very good.Barbacoa de Res. " slow roasted beef simmering in own juice w rich guajillo-ancho chili sauce"Conchinita Pibil. ( excellent)"Mayan dish slow roasted pork marinated in special achiote citrus paste served on a banana leaf ". etcFilet de pescado relleno de Moriscos. Seafood Stuffed fish filet tilapia w a chipotle cream sauce. Tampiquena: "skirt steak w two cheese enchiladas " etcI enjoy the mellow comfortable atmosphere. Folk eat here more quietly. More...
Best Molcajete Ever, Since I'm a Seafood-addict The Ceviche Tostadas are my Favorites. The service was great and friendly :)
We had the chicken tostada, chicken flauta, chicken enchilada, beef tostada, beef flauta, chile relano, black beans, refried beans, avocados and Spanish rice. Everything is fresh except for the black beans which I think came out of a can. The chicken and beef are different than most tex-mex restaurants-the chicken is rotisserie and the beef is steak. The chips and tortillas are all corn instead of flour. The staff's English is not so good so you have to be clear because at first I ordered avocados and got enchiladas. On a Sunday afternoon when most restaurants were busy this place was dead but like I said the food was great! More...

Outstanding fresh food along with excellent service. We'll be back!
We liked what we ordered. I orders the shrimp in chipotle sauce. It was delicious. My husband got the barbacoa. Lots of different items on their menu to choose from. We would definitely go back again.
Despite living in walking distance, I just made my first visit to El Nuevo Rodeo last week for a friend's birthday dinner. I had just come from happy hour where I'd enjoyed appetizers so I wasn't in the mood for a full meal. I did, however, split the chips and guacamole - which comes in a giant mortar and is mashed/mixed up at your table. It was a bit pricey ($9) but there was tons of it (plus it was delicious), so I really can't complain! I also ordered a couple of Palomas here (I'm a sucker for tequila and grapefruit juice) and my friend ordered the Vampiro which sounded like a spicy version of my drink. Mine was by far better and my friend couldn't even choke hers down (though I helped her out a bit because it was a unique taste that I thought may get better with time...it didn't! But I digress.) Some of my other friends ordered the cactus margaritas and the group was split on these. Some complained that they were too sweet, others that they were too thick/syrupy, and others disliked the sugar rim. While I was super happy with the Palomas I ordered, the drink that everyone agreed was best = the gigantic fishbowl-sized margarita that came to the birthday girl filled with straws for us to pass around. Often these types of drinks are overly syrupy and light on booze but this gargantuan drink is not for the weak of heart - and is definitely meant to be shared.Last things to mention: we were there on a Friday night and didn't have to wait at all for a table. Casual dress is totally acceptable and they had sports on tv. The vibe reminds me of a more laid back Pancho Villa, though the pricing was a bit steeper. I used a Restaurant.com voucher to save $9 but wound up spending more than I meant just on a few drinks and the guacamole. Next time I venture over, I'll probably come hungry for a full meal and weigh in again at that point! Overall, though, I'm glad to live so close to this spot. More...
I don't even know if I can say ENOUGH about this place. After the first time my boyfriend and I went in, we were remembered immediately the second time and greeted like old friends every time thereafter. The staff are all so friendly and the food is authentic and delicious. Best things on the menu? The Mole and the Enchiladas Verde! Get the Cadillac margarita and enjoy! Carlos- we love you! More...

OMG! Grew up in California havent found a good restaurant yet until now, Best Mexican Food in Minnesota hands down. Will be back again. New pregnancy craving for sure.
Food great. Service fine. Nice decor. Cheeky feel. Would go again.
El Nuevo rodeo is the place to be! Lots of good deals here. I highly recommend the smothered burrito and the coco loco. The wait staff is pleasant but do not spend enough time near the tables. Delicious guacamole here too. Made table side and with a good deal of avocado. They usually have a good groupon deal going, so make sure you check that out before you get the bill. More...
Really a treat. I had the whole tilapia. It was fantastic!
Pues es un buen lugar

bueno al menos en lo personal es un antro exelente ya que trae diferentes generos de musica y el trato que dan sus empleados es muy bueno
Second time there - first was on a Groupon, and it was pretty darn good and the people there even showed us the ballroom upstairs. I have been on a veg diet for a couple of days, and was feeling some of the results, so I talked to my ladyfriend and suggested fish tacos for dinner - she seemed to agree. We had no particular place in mind - thought about Baja Sol, and a couple others, and she suggested we try a new place that was quite close, or maybe Rodeo. Even without a Groupon, this place is great.Carlos was our bartender and server - we sat on the sidewalk cafe part - way too nice to be inside after this winter. Excellent service and he remembered us from our last visit a month or so ago - he was almost as good as a high end waiter - there when you needed him, not other times, and there was never a shortage of food or too much on the table. We started with the guac - made fresh at our table - like really fresh - ingredients were not mixed till he served them - outstanding guacamole, fresh, delicious, and beautiful to look at.The fish tacos were lightly breaded fish, quick fried to a nice moist consistency, with an excellent simple relish. Try them - I have twice and will again. I had a beer, and my ladyfriend had a cadillac margarita (a bit sweet, but easily cured with some lime wedges) - I liked the drinks, and she will tell Carlos to make the marg with a bit more aid next time - the man is a great part of the restaurant. I bought another Groupon while we were there - a deal of this kind is definitely worth repeating. Even at full price, this is a gem in the city More...
Was not sure what to expect. We had a Groupon. As instructed we called to set up a reservation. They were concerned what discount we were using. English was not the first language. We showed up on a Wednesday at 1PM for lunch. Parking was on the street near the door. Restaurant is near the police station. Area has improved significantly. Clean new streets, new building and a safe feeling that has been absent for years. The interior is bright and large. Clean. The bathrooms need some cleaning and a room freshener. The greeting was friendly. Only two other tables were in use. The place was empty. Our Groupon was for $24. We ordered three items. First was the house citrus salad with jicama and shrimp. The citrus pomegranate vinaigrette was excellent. Next was the flat bread with shrimp and mole sauce. It was good. Finally we shared a combination platter. The platter had a beef taco, a beef enchilada in red sauce and a beef tostada. We ordered black beans and no rice. The communication was not the best. We were served rice and re-fried beans. The taco was great. The enchilada would be better with the green sauce. The tostada was incredible. I have search for this taste since relocating to Minneapolis from California. The next time one of us will order a platter of three tostadas. Two beef and one chicken. Hopefully black beans will be served. While this place is not perfect, it is the best authentic Mexican food we have found in Minnesota. There is also a large full bar. Be sure to order the tostada! More...
*Super-friendly staff.*Delicious guacamole (lots of avocado).*Very authentic and delicious food and drinks! Went ther for the first time for an event. They served tacos. If it was any taco, I would probably not come back just because of the location is not where I usually go out, however I love mexican food and this is Joe's favorite food as well! It is totally worth it!The second time that we there, we had Parrillada Marinera, a seafood dish, probably the most expensive thing they have in their menu, but served both of us and we had a little to bring home. (Delicious) Guacamole is perfect! I also ordered a Coco Loco, a drink served inside the young coconut. If you like coconut, you HAVE to order it! Also had a coffee drink Café de Oh-Yah! Both great choices! I still need to go back, because they have a long menu of food and drinks.I still have a lot to try! More...
Amazing dinner. Try the chicken mole or the Yucatan pork dish. If you get the latter, watch out for the habanero peppers! Good guac here too

Very good food
We had a couple rough experiences at this place a few years ago, so we avoided the Rodeo for a while. We got a deal about a year ago on one of the group sites and had a fantastic experience, but it hadn't occurred to us to return since then.Last night, three of us had dinner at El Nuevo Rodeo and once again had a fantastic experience. We started with margaritas all around, and they were expertly mixed. On to the appetizer - we ordered guacamole for the table. It's a little expensive, but some of the best guacamole we've had in town. The complementary chips and salsa are also very good. For dinner I had the fish tacos and thought they were good, though I was even happier with the fajitas I got last time. My wife got a pork dish and my dad got steak with enchiladas - all of us were very happy. In my opinion, El Nuevo Rodeo has managed a great turnaround in the past couple years. For the foreseeable future, this will be our go-to casual Mexican restaurant. More...
Best guacamole I've ever had at any restaurant. Period. I'm a Latin girl so just trust me on this one. It's a MUST. It's huge. None of this "dime sized dip of guac on my giant chip" non sense. Eat it by the scoopfuls if you wish. Service was excellent. Our server was so hard working, quick, and personable. The Sopes con Cecina were awesommmmmme. The Yelp $20 for $40 deal can't be beat. Two of us shared the guac, 2 entrees, and I even got a giant margarita. Best deal in town. I don't understand why this place doesn't have better ratings. Will come back if I'm in town. More...
Great service and great food. Go for the green sauce, it's amazing. Nachos are cheesy with fresh guacamole and salsa.

Buen lugar para comer despues del baile
Food was delicious. The verde sauce on the enchiladas was the best I have ever had, and the salsa was extremely tasty. Good prices, interesting atmosphere, and nice cold mexican beer on tap.The only negative is that the service was a bit slow. My glass was empty a couple times, but other than that, it is a very nice place to have a meal.Use the Yelp deal, and you will definitely get a lot of tasty food for the money. More...
How did I miss this place for so long? I think I heard it was not vegetarian friendly but that is simply wrong. Not only do they have plenty of vegetarian options on the regular menu they also have a separate vegetarian menu where they mention no use of lard in cooking methods which reassures me. Costs are very reasonable, atmosphere very festive and tasteful, service excellent and food delicious. POssibly my new favorite restaurant! More...
Now I'm being serious - why is this place always so dead Is there something weird about the kitchen or the food? Are people just turned off by its menu? Is it because the service is slow? What am I missing here I'm confused/baffled because, after going here now four or so times, I think it's pretty good! Honestly, I've yet to have a genuinely bad or even mediocre experience. Sure, the drinks are a bit inconsistent (sometimes more boozy than others, sometimes the margaritas are slushy vs. regular ice), the restaurant during the summer is RIDICULOUSLY cold, and the wait time for food is a bit long...but I've had good drinks, food, and service each time. Yeah, really confused. Anyway, they seem to always have Groupon deals, which rules, so the bf, a friend, and I decided to take advantage of one and get some food. The menu is pretty big. I ordered the cochinita pibil, the bf had the barbacoa de res, and our friend had one of the shrimp with rice dishes..not sure if it was the cream sauce or the garlic one. All of our dishes were delicious, but our friend's shrimp dish definitely was the best of the three. My pork was super tender as though it had been cooked down for hours in this super tasty sauce, the rice and beans were flavorful and well cooked/not mush. We were also given warm tamales to accompany our dishes. Of course, we also got drinks. Since it's winter, something tropical to remind me of beaches and sunshine was a must, so I opted for the coco loco, served in a coconut. Very tasty. Again, I've had it before where the ice was slushy (preferred) but this time it was just regular ice. Really wish their drinks were consistent. Why not 5-stars? - Slow service, especially considering how dead it was. We got there around 7:20, we left at 9pm. But then again, we weren't in any rush and our food was awesome, so that's not a huuuuge complaint. However, if I was in a hurry, that would have been unfortunate. - inconsistent (but still tasty) drinks. **a heads up - if you are using a groupon, you can't use the Yelp free tequila shot check in bonus** More...
After a craving for Mexican food during a day of shopping, we turned to our trusty Yelp and stumbled upon El Nuevo Rodeo Restaurant. If your looking for your standard tex-mex of tacos, quesadillas, chimichangas and enchiladas, this is not the place for you.The atmosphere of the place during the day is everything you want, not too crowded (we did go during the polar vortex, so I'm not sure if that made an impact) not too loud, and not too long of a wait for your food. During the evening the upstairs turns into a nightclub and the downstairs a bar. The food is absolutely some of the best Mexican in Minneapolis. The food like I said previously is more gourmet than the average Mexican. The chips and salsa you do pay for at $2.50, but are simply delicious. The chips are housemade which is a huge plus in my book. The tacos are not traditional, there are no seasonings the whole cheese, lettuce and tomato fixings but there is a lime to squirt onto them. I ordered the nachos and they were simply amazing. The cheese was not the typical shredded almost like they cut it off a block. The guacamole is great as with guacamole but beware it is very limey. The service is great, our waitress was very attentive, and always made sure we were doing okay and our glasses were full. All in all this place is a great cheap lunch place and I will definitely be back! More...
I also wondered why this place is always empty..but I think it's really a late night dance attraction and I'm usually there early. My experience has been great. Really a wonderful variety of food and tequila. And yes, the table side guacamole was delicious. Used a Groupon...excellent value. More...

Table side guacamole was delicious, chips were nice and salty and the Tamarind Mojito was unbelievable. Service was good, food was fresh. Will go back for sure!

Best place to eat mexican food :)
We came here from a Living Social deal I had purchased that included, one appetizer, two salads, two entrees and one dessert.
We started off with the guacamole that is 'mushed' right at your table. It was excellent! Then I had the cactus salad which was rather interesting and good considering I have never had cactus before. My daughter had a lettuce, hicama, shrimp salad but it came without the shrimp. She questioned the waitress on where the shrimp was and she said "Oh, with the Living Social coupon, you don't get the shrimp on the salad". Really We didn't make a fuss but thought that was very tacky and she should have told her that when she ordered it. Then onto our main dishes...my daughter and I split the steak/chicken fajitas which were pretty standard fare but good, my husband had a quesadilla and he said it too was good. Last but not least, we split the crepe for dessert and it was good. People to the right of us were eating the sea food boil and that looked fabulous. I would go back to try that. All in all, it was very good. More...
4:00 on Sunday was perfect. With a free parking bonus. Only a couple of other people were there so service was great and the only noise was from people raving about their food. Seriously. We contributed "spectacular!" and "amazing!"We had a Groupon for an app and 2 entrees. We ordered the nachos for an app and the waitress automatically asked which meat we wanted since the app could be up to $10 and the nachos were only $8 if you don't add a $2 meat. They were quite good and El Nuevo was fabulous about all of the things we needed on the side due to a picky eater and an allergy. About the allergy. My husband always orders steak fajitas WITHOUT onions. Some places cook it with onions and then when he has to send it back, they just remove the onions, add some "Sizzle" and send them back out. He will then proceed to vomit in their parking lot. If they are lucky. We mentioned the onion allergy and were truly shocked when his fajitas arrived, not simply without onions but with lots of extra peppers, avocado slices instead of guacamole, and diced tomatoes instead of pico di gallo. Truly, places never do this. He is lucky if they bother to warn him about some of things he has ordered. His steak was well trimmed and tasty. I don't normally get seafood at Mexican restaurants, but and glad I ordered the shrimp fajitas. There were plenty of butterflied and deliciously garlicky shrimp. And from what I heard one table over, the enchiladas were great. A few tables over, a couple order the giant seafood extravaganza. We actually went over to get a closer look and joined the couple in taking photos. They were in awe. (of the food, not our audacity--they were actually amused by us and the woman described the miraculous bounty of the sea to my daughter)Highest praise: we would go back--even without a Groupon! In reference to the person who felt discriminated against...for what it's worth, all of the other happy customers during our visit were as pasty as we were. I have not had food this good since I left So Cal! I love this place. Esta mui bueno!
OH MY. What is this place with these magical salsas?Ok, I was hesitate about this place because the reviews are so mixed. However, I ate and I loved.Cadillac Margarita. YUM. I have only had sugary, margaritas in life and this place has shown me that margaritas can be GOOD. The salsa tray. Yes, its not free (which I hate in principle at a Mexican restaurant) but it is SOOOO good. I am a salsa snob. My standards were met. Also, they didn't end up charging is for it- hey o!They kept the chips refilled, too. Big perk. I got some sort of green sauce chicken enchiladas. Good green sauce, but I like mine a bit more tangy. Not a ton of "sides", but everything was really tasty.Seriously, I'll be back. They've made a belieber out of me. More...
Food was good, service was good. Waiter needs to practice his English more. Groupon picked a winner.
Very blown away by the authenticness and affordability at ENRR. Many groupon type deals out there to increase your savings but it's the deliciousness of the food that will make you come back for more. They also have a lot of lively events upstairs, mostly of the Mexicano and Salsa Dance variety. Can't wait to go back. Great place for late night eats, friendly service and even some decent local craft brews. The real deal. More...
Cute place, great service, huge portions!I stumbled across this place b/c of a living social deal I purchased. We went at 7 on a Wednesday and the place was pretty empty, so we had the run of the restaurantOur server was friendly and attentive and offered great suggestions. I got the Mole flatbread appetizer with shrimp and could have died and gone to heaven right there. I can't remember much else, because I was in a food induced coma, but I finished with the chocolate chili desert and licked the plate cleanExcellent happy hour prices as well. Can't wait to go back! Two chainz needs to revise his lyrics, "When I die, bury me in mole." More...
Really enjoyed our meal here. Drinks were very fresh and didn't skip on the booze. Chips and salsa were incredibly good, green salsa, red and pickled veggies. Wife had posole and tostadas, she loved it. I got enchiladas and a chili relleno. Everything was very flavorful and fresh tasting. We left very impressed and satisfied. More...
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. I've been frequenting El Nuevo Rodeo for several years now, and have probably visited approximately ten times. Each time I have been pleased with the food, service, and price. The wait staff are attentive and quick to offer refills. The menu is extensive with countless dishes to choose from. The house salsa is especially delicious, as is the burrito. I feel that the price is extremely reasonable too. There is ample street parking nearby, but be prepared to pay the meter. More...
Fabulous. A real cut above the standard Mexican/Latin offering. Garlic crusted tilapia (be sure to ask the size of the fish, you don't want a small one), Chicken Vera Cruzana if it's on the menu, anything with mole. Even the burritos are the best ever had. Guacamole is stupendous. Try the Parrillada for your table to share. Staff is wonderful and the restaurant is charming. Save room for dessert. I personally love the chocolate cake. This is a serious, well run restaurant for a casual night out. And this paragraph is just about dinner in the restaurant. Now, for large parties: I held a bridal rehearsal dinner for 90 in one the two upstairs venues. Maya Santamaria who owns the enterprise and her whole staff knocked themselves out for us. We had a lot of special dietary requests to handle: vegan, gluten-free and Kosher style if you can imaging, and Maya and her staff handled it perfectly. Guests were greeted with huge buckets of assorted beers, wine, Sangria and passed appetizers which included a special guacamole with mango and pomegranate that the guests were fighting over, mini chicken enchiladas with mole and veggie sopas. Dinner was buffet and amazingly the food was hot and really good, not easy when serving 90 at one time. We even got to use the club's DJ and sound system (extra fee). We used the club floor for our party because I loved the vibe, but since it was a Sat. night we cleared out before the club opened. Maya now has a wonderful second private space on the third floor (elevator, too) which would not conflict with anything and could be as casual as mine was or more formal. It's a beautiful space. So, if you are thinking of a large private party. Take a look at El Nuevo Rodeo. You will be glad you did. Or, just drop in for lunch or dinner.Elaine G More...
Having been here a number of times over the years, I'd have to say El Nuevo is pretty solid. There strong suit over other Mexican restaurants is their classy looking bar and well-appointed decor. The Dia De Los Murertos decorations are pretty cool. But I absolutely love the Filete de Pescado Relleno Mariscos. Crunchy fried fish with cheese and shellfish stuffed inside, with a creamy mole sauce. Only peanut butter would make it better. The huge, $37, Parrillada Marinara is kind of fun, but the crab on it is pathetic. Otherwise, the other shellfish is ok, and the fish fish and side onions/catcus is very good. And the Choco Flan is tasty. Chille Relleno is ok, beef enchiladas good, tacos ok, and I'd skip the flauta. If you're wondering why there's an El Neuvo sign on the corner, 3 doors down from the restaurant, it's because the entire third floor of the building is their nightclub. It's massive, with 3 bars, a stage, and a DJ or band every Thur, Fri, Sat, and Sun. I've never tried it, but I bet it's quite the to do. More...
I'd definitely go back! The food was yum, albeit a bit slow on the service, and the prices were very good. The red salsa with the chips and salsa was delicious, as was my chicken burrito and my wife's soup. The soup was a pork/hominy concoction, and very tasty. Ambiance was nice, I'd call it a step or two above the typical mexican restaurant atmosphere. More...
I have been to this restaurant many times. The food & service were both great! It is my go to place when I am craving Mexican food.
Very good food but amysmal service is the tldr. I was in with my bf and we were the only ones in on a google offers deal. Anyways, the waitress seemed quite busy with other things (despite us being literally the *only* ones in the restaurant). She was very uninterested in answering questions about the menu or about the salsa types that came with dishes. I would give the restaurant a 2 star if it wasn't for its saving grace, the amazing quality of their food. 5 star food quality all the way. I had the po boy and it was very good. The perfect degree of lime mixed with bacon (not authentic mexican food, I know but I was curious) and my bf had the tacos there which were amazingly well seasoned and the toppings were incredibly well thought out compared to other restaurants. There are many authentic mexican restaurants on Lake Street but these tacos were particularly good. I would go here again on the strength of the food but know that the service will be abysmal. We stopped in here for lunch with our only motivation being that we had a Groupon. None of us had ever been here before. Being noon on a Tuesday we were the only people in the entire restaurant. We had a pitcher of horchata (a pitcher!) and it was delicious. It's very sweet though, in case you've never had horchata, you've been warned. We all had tortas - the Super Torta Rodeo and the Torta Ahogada. I thought the Super Torta was delicious. The meat was tender and well-flavored, and the veggies were fresh. My friend who had the Ahogada enjoyed it, and he said it was much hotter than he had expected (the menu does say "fire-hot"). Overall, the food was very good. I would love to come back for ceviche and guacamole sometime. I like that they do things a little different than other Mexican restaurants, with a few unique offerings. Even the chips came with 2 salsas and some pickled veggies. However, aside from that I found it to be a fairly average, run-of-the-mil Mexican restaurant. It was very clean, and well-decorated, to the point of looking like a chain. I think I will mostly stick to my dirty hole-in-the-wall Mexican joints, but this is a reasonably-priced place for good Mexican food if you find yourself in the East Lake area. Plus, you can never go wrong with multiple TVs broadcasting Mexican MTV. More...
I had a coupon and wasnt expecting much. This food was GREAT but not many people in the place. The salsa is sooo fresh and the guacamole was amazing.I had tacos and couldnt have been more pleased. I hope this place is around a while. They have great food, and it is definitely worth going despite what the service snobs below have reviewed. More...
YUM! I have no idea what all the rotten reviews are talking about. They had a bunch of Day of the Dead decor up and it's a really cute place. The service was attentive and the food came out quickly. We had scallop ceviche that was awesome. Fresh and flavorful. I had a chicken mole dish and my husband had a flank stake & cheese enchilada w/ poblano peppers dish. Our food was super flavorful. You want great authentic mexican, this place is it. We can't wait to come back. More...
Today I stumbled upon this place and I expected just an average Mexican food. Boy was I wrong. From the start I knew I was in for a treat. We started with guacamole which was made at our table and so delicious. Can you say fresh!I had Cochinita Pibil. Imagine full plate cleverly put together. Pulled pork, rice, black beans, pickled onion and Serrano pepper relish, grilled pineapple and fresh tortillas. On the first bite I was in heaven. My friend never eats pork and she was in ecstasy when she tried it after seeing expression on my face. She had chicken tacos that were made to perfection. All on all, two thumbs up! Can't wait to dine here again as I find this to be a hidden gem that will wow you with their fresh made food that only can be dreamed of. More...
I don't know if the terrible reviews on this restaurant were for the former location but my roommate and I loved it. Service was attentive. We had the fresh made guacamole and chips that they combine table side and then some basic tacos and I had the mole enchilada which I thought was really tasty. I thought this was better than boca chica. The pina colada was just the right amount of sweet and tasted fresh and the mixed drinks were strong. While I don't profess to be a mexican food expert, I've traveled my fair share, lived all over the world and I thought all and all a pretty good meal. More...
I was given a rare treat when my sweet Husband took me to this INCREDIBLE RESTAURANT! We didn't know what to expect with never going to many Up-Scale Mexican places in the past. The Owner- "Maya" & her staff were friendly, warm caring people. The decor was so beautiful I thought I'd traveled to Mexico for the evening :)... We had some of their "signature" dishes... Many of which we never experienced before. My Husband isn't a very spicy type food person & they were VERY accommodating to HIS needs... I on the other hand LOVE spicy food! This place is perfect for both. If you're a Civiechi person you'll be very pleased! They have 2 kinds (yummy)... I also enjoy fine Tequila & well I have to say... I've now had the honor of enjoying the smooth flavor of 1942 private stock Don Juilo. This Restaurant has of course many different price points of Tequila as well. The tortilla soup was to die for! The fish of the day dish was truly a delight... I had a dish that my Brother in-law's girlfriend knows very well (her home town in Mexico). I have been craving this food ever since! I'm looking forward to going back & also enjoying their upstairs club as well! They have a club that caters to many Mexican music artists. I highly recommend you go & enjoy this fine dining. I promise you will! More...
Simply for the ceviche and tacos... damn good. Go on a hot day, get the Ceviche, an ice cold cerveza, and you will be set my friend. Enjoy!
Still shitty service, but last night I had the Sopa Azteca, and it was by far one of the best things I have had in quite a while. For $6.50 you get a giagantic bowl of chicken soup that looks like pho, but instead of rice noodles you find tortilla strips, plus two kinds of cheese. Within the fabulous broth you will also find cilantro, tomato, onion and avocado. We also had the nachos, which comes topped with a pound of that yummy quesadilla cheese, guacamole and really fresh pico de gallo. Much better meal than last time, and also cheaper. Now if only they could find a decent waitress somewhere. More...
