I've had a few hair services done here so far and every time I've left very pleased. I’ve walked past this salon many times and decided to give it a try for a big change up with my hair. Some might think that’s risky but I read many reviews and felt comfortable enough to go for it. This review is for a combination of the salon and the stylist. Upon walking into the salon I was underwhelmed with the set up - I know some people don’t care about that but having gone to a handful of salons in the past, Saraya was just lacking a bit. The work stations seemed outdated, the ceiling was crumbling in one area (from maybe a water leak), and it felt uninspiring. However, my stylist - Veronica - was fantastic. Very friendly, very nice, easy to talk to, and she did a wonderful job. I showed her a few pictures of what I was aiming to do - with both color and cut - and she did great. Some of the highlights on the top mid section are a little higher into my root than wanted (I was aiming for a little more of a smudged root/balayage look) but it’ll fade after a few shampoos and blend eventually. The color overall though, is perfect. She nailed it with the color!... and the cut, I love it! I went from shoulder blade/mid back length to collarbone length with a very blunt cut. If you give Saraya a try, ask for Veronica. Oh - and new customers get 20% off first visit! More...

-1 star for the salon itself, not the stylist. Saraya could use some updating. The inside is a little outdated and sad. I don't know if I'm just used to modern or upscale salons but Saraya felt like it belonged in a strip mall in Ohio - not in Chicago. The chairs for the shampoo sinks need either foot wrests or stools. I'm short and my knees were hurting very badly from my legs awkwardly dangling while laying there for 20-25 mins for the shampoo, toner, and rinse. However, my stylist - Veronica - was excellent. This 5 star review is 100% for Saraya Salon & Spa staff. The staff here are wonderful. However, I had a HORRIBLE experience with Deborah here. I actually had a Groupon with Nails with Deborah (who rents from Saraya Salon & Spa). I do NOT recommend scheduling with Deborah! My appointment was scheduled for 8/21 at 330 pm. I was there for over 3 hours for a no chip mani and pedicure (i literally didn’t leave until 630 pm). Deborah was distracted texting on her phone for a significant amount of time (which at first did not bother me). My pedicure was great. However, my manicure experience was one of the worst i have ever had. I asked for a french manicure, and i personally prefer white tips. This is personal preference. I told Deborah that i wanted to have white tips, and her response was “asian people give white tips.” Her tone and demeanor quickly shifted from approachable to cold. I asked her if she was upset, and she said “I’m not upset! In the beauty industry, you DO NOT question the professional. The customer isn’t right.” She went on to tell me that i was insulting her because she has had several years of experience (this is literally because i asked for white tips-she wanted to paint a light pink on top of the white which i personally do not like). This woman continued with racial comments for the rest of my appointment. Never in my life have i felt more uncomfortable - she ended the appointment by saying “please don’t tell people i did your nails-this is so embarrassing for me. This is NOT MY WORK.” She let me know in the future, i should go to an “asian salon.” I would never feel comfortable meeting with Deborah again, and do not recommend her if you have a personal preference that doesn’t align with her views of “beauty.” I talked to the manager at Saraya Salon who let me know that she is renting from there-she is not an employee. He was kind and apologized on behalf of Deborah, despite the fact that he is not her employee. He offered to have one of his employees provide a no chip mani and pedi for no fee (and stated that she is much more professional and would never state such racist and insensitive comments). What took me so long to go here!! When Saraya first opened up I toyed with the idea to go as my former hairstylist joined their team. Never made it there and she left to move out of state, so I never made an appointment there. Go forward a few years and I decided to make an appointment after a seriously botched hair color I received from another place. Well, enters Adam into my life! My first visit to Adam 6 weeks ago for a simple root touch up led to an extensive conversation about the current state of my color and thoughts of how to fix it. My friend recommended me to Saraya Salon. Calling and making an appointment was so easy- Sam was so accommodating. This was my first time going there; the place was super easy to find and they have a free parking garage for customers (I didn't know until after). I got there a little early but barely had to wait. I WILL be back again! I love my hair color. cut and blow dry! The color is what I asked for and my hair has never been more shiny and soft! Sam did a great job plus more! I got my new customer discount and everything was more than generous!!! You can tell both Sam and Adam have a lot of experience and I will be recommending to all my friends in town!!! I had been coloring my hair black in New York and when I moved to Chicago I was skeptical to chose a hair salon. I came across Saraya salon through yelp and decided to give it a try. I came in for a consultation and Sam and Adam gave me an honest opinion about changing my dark hair to blonde. They explained that it won't be in one seating. It has to be gradual. Adam gave me a subtle balayage and the bleach he used didn't damage my hair or compromised the quality of my hair. The receptionist was really sweet as well. They spent quality time to take care of my hair and I left with lighter hair after few hours. My hair still feels soft and strong. Can not wait to come back for my second process in a month. January 18, 2019From the moment you enter this beautiful salon, you're  greeted by Veronica, a  friendly receptionist, who quickly signs you in, offering a lovely, hot cup of coffee, anyway you prefer it. Adam, gave me the best shampoo ever. Their products are high quality.If that wasn't enough, I had a delightful head message, while beingshampooed.Almost fell asleep.Also, Adam let the conditioner sit in my hair for a couple of minutes, allowing  time to work its magic.Sam listened to exactly what cut I thought would lookbest, then he made a suggestion for a style that's perfect formy face.  His suggestion was better than mine.Adam blow-dried and styled my hair.He did an outstanding job. This was my first time at Sayara Salon, which was highly recommended by a good friend in my building. I was very pleased with the entire experience. The salon was attractively designed, and staff was welcoming. Sam, who was professional and courteous, gave me a great haircut. My 15 year old daughter was searching Yelp one evening on my account and found this salon in the South loop.  She was specifically looking for a good local location to get a bayalage treatment.  After reading the reviews, I agreed to take her in for her 1st major hair treatment.  The wait was about 2 to 3 hours, so I decided to see if I could have something done for myself while I waited. Luckily they were able to take me in for a last minute hair coloring and trim. My daughter wanted a blonde bayalage, but I convinced her to have something a little more subtle because of  her age. We both loved the results Adam gave her and I especially loved what Sam did to my hair. He was able to cover my grays and give me some subtle highlights to blend in with the gray when they come back.  My daughter is still talking about how great her hair looks. I recently moved to the neighborhood and wanted to find a stylist nearby. I was fortunate enough to find Saraya! My appointment was scheduled with Sam who I believe is the owner. I had extensions that were in bad shape and needed my color to be updated and all one color:) Sam gave me some great suggestions and had Jeanie? I'm not sure her name! I've had extensions for 4 years now and always struggled finding a salon. It's difficult to find someone who can match my hair color with my platinum tape in extensions. When I saw Blonde on the salon windows, I had to walk in. Sam told me that my hair didn't match and it needed to be more ashy (less yellow). He promised to fix my hair and I was thrilled. My 2 teen daughters got their first highlights here, one partial, one bayalage, plus haircuts, everything looks great, we are very happy with both. They used Sam and Adam, both very good.I also just got a haircut from Sam, a big change with 5-6 inches off, it looks great. Sam suggested an idea to grow out my bangs, which are a perpetual problem, and were not fixed by my previous stylist (different salon), I think he has a good idea, and the bangs will look better as they grow out.
