We teach children to read using an Orton Gillingham (OG) based phonics approach. We teach in person and online. We teach reading, comprehension, spelling and writing. Some of our tutors also teach Maths, French, Biology and other subjects and adult ESL/ELA students.

What do you love most about your job?
We consistently see children move up entire grade levels in their reading in just a few months. It is extremely rewarding to see how this changes kids' lives!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I watched my 10 year old step son go from not knowing how to read a single word to being being able to read at a grade 1 level after 10 two hour lessons over a period of 10 days. After that, I saw him improve to a grade 5 level after 2 more years of weekly lessons. Seeing how he began to look people in the eye, stand taller and have more hope for his future was very motivating.
Why should our clients choose you?
We are professional, affordable and experienced. I (the owner) am a specially trained to teach reading using an OG based phonics approach. I graduated from SFU at the top of my class in Linguistics and Education and have been teaching reading and writing to ages 5-65 for the last 20 years. I train each of my tutors to use the same approach.
Our lessons are customized to the needs of your child. We find out exactly where your child is at with his or her reading, we match them with one of our tutors, we communicate with clients after each lesson and we monitor progress all along the way. Because we focus on this very special area - teaching reading - we are able to invest considerable time and resources to ensuring all of our tutors know how to do this well.
Many of our tutors come to us with specializations in other subjects so we teach other topics as well (i.e. Maths, Science, French). However, we all have one thing in common: the ability to help struggling readers using an OG phonics based approach in an engaging, highly interactive manner.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
Yes. Our online sessions are very interactive and hands on and use the latest applications and resources to keep children engaged even online. We regularly hear from parents that they are delighted that their children actually look forward to their lessons.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Most of our sessions are online (usually at the request of parents) but we also have some tutors doing in person sessions. For in person sessions, our tutors wear masks and follow the standard protocols as set out by the Provincial Health Authority.
