THE ROBERTO STARNINO STORY
FROM ADVERSITY TO INSPIRATION
Taunted by classmates for being an overweight child, Roberto Starnino decided to change his fate. He retreated to his family’s basement and started to build his body with gallon jugs and a warn-down York bench. He joined a run-down gym at the age of 15 and began training people within a year.
Gaining 60 lbs. of muscle caught the attention of college football recruiters from across the country. Competitive scholarship offers poured in for this rising star. Following his heart, Starnino chose to stay with his girlfriend in Montreal. He became an All-Canadian Academic lineman, while studying for his Bachelor of Commerce degree at Concordia University.
Starnino had it all — a beautiful girlfriend, a promising football career and a job training people at a beautiful health and fitness club. Then the unthinkable happened. During the last practice at training camp before turning pro, Starnino suffered a stroke.
Hemi-paralyzed and bed ridden for almost two months at the Montreal Neurological Institute’s intensive care unit, Starnino lost his career, his friends, his girl and his dream. The depression was just as crippling as the stroke. Starnino was grief stricken, a broken man.
One day Starnino observed an elderly patient who also suffered from hemi-paralysis. The old man was sitting up in a chair and was gamely trying to feed himself. With newfound resolve, Starnino began to move... to will his body to comply. At that moment, Starnino decided he would overcome his accident.
THE ROAD TO REVELATION
Starnino studied all there was to read in the field of health and vitality during his almost two years of intensive rehabilitation. He immersed himself in the literature, quickly identifying the shortcomings of traditional medicine. These shortcomings were a revelation, leading to his Dream.
Starnino became his own trainer, using his newfound knowledge to create a highly specialized approach to healthcare. His miraculous recovery from the stroke further encouraged Starnino to pursue his dream in this field.
With passion and resolve, he embraced key disciplines within today’s multifaceted healthcare arena.
Starnino studied exercise, nutrition and lifestyle sciences under Paul Chek H.H.P. at the prestigious C.H.E.K. Institute in California, where he also studied under Dodie Anderson at the Metabolic Typing Education Center (MTEC) and William G. Timmins N.D. at Biohealth Diagnostics to become Quebec’s first Holistic Lifestyle coach, Healthexcel Certified Metabolic Typing Adviser and Biohealth Practitioner. Not only is Starnino a Neuro-Linguistic programmer (NLP), having studied under Hawaii-based specialist Tad James M.S. Ph.D. at Advanced Neuro Dynamics, but Starnino continually advances his osteopathy training with Dr. Guy Voyer D.O. at the rigorous Sutherland Academy of Osteopathy and his naturopathy training with Christian Limoges N.D. at the CENAB Biogenic Institute. Likewise, Starnino is a trained posturologist and student of esteemed French posturologist Dr Bernard Bricot. M.D.
Informed and fuelled by this diverse body of knowledge, Starnino created a unique and comprehensive approach to healthcare.
ROBERTO STARNINO PERSONAL TRAINING
Roberto Starnino Personal Training is different than traditional personal training systems in the sense that its primary objective is not necessarily to develop one’s muscles or do what some call bodybuilding but it is to develop one’s health and/or well-being through exercise, nutrition, lifestyle and life coaching.

Inspired by the wisdom in Thomas Edison’s words, Starnino has created a personal training system that addresses the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of people’s lives.
The Starnino approach is based on a coaching relationship that reorients the trainees’ exercise, nutrition, lifestyle and life for optimal health development.
The theory is to correct or adjust fundamental homeostatic control systems so one has the strength, the power, the energy, and the knowledge to meet life’s challenges, resulting in a more rewarding life experience.
FIVE STEPS TOWARD PERSONAL HEALTH
Trainees undergo complete postural and orthopedic assessments
Trainees participate in a complete personal health assessment

Every new trainee is initiated into Roberto Starnino`s Personal Training system. By undergoing a complete postural and orthopedic assessment (performed by Roberto Starnino and his partners, the teachers, therapists and trainers to the Quebec and Canadian Olympic athletes) the therapists and trainers determine the patients and the trainees’ specific neurophysiologic and musculoskeletal imbalances. Then they conduct a complete health assessment that will allow them not only to type one’s metabolism and suggest a specific diet according to individual biochemistry, but also to get to the root cause of any ailments.
Trainees have access to the personal training studio from 6am to 9pm on weekdays and from 9am to 5pm on week-ends in order to perform their training programs. In addition, members have access to the valuable advice of our highly educated personal trainers.
Starnino targets busy professionals, executives and entrepreneurs as well as retiring baby-boomers that live, work or play in and around the old city. Most of these people have no time or money to waste. These highly-motivated individuals want results but may need a resource for knowledge, expertise and tools to achieve their health and vitality goals.
Our Inside-Out approach starts with the proper management of the pelvis through the optimal function and balance of the abdominal wall, hip flexors, lower back and the hip extension mechanism.
Using isolation-type movement to strengthen and stabilize the hips, spine and shoulders, we create intramuscular coordination by strengthening, lengthening and balancing the musculature in and around these areas.
Then we use functional and dynamic movement to integrate one’s upper and lower body to create intermuscular coordination, which results in better performance of daily and/or sport-specific activities.
With the help of naturopathy and Metabolic Typing, our trainers help one to choose the ideal foods and the ideal macronutrient ratios to suit their individual biochemical and physiological needs.
A healthy lifestyle equals a healthy body. A healthy lifestyle consists of six foundational health principals. One needs to take the time to breath, drink, eat, think, move and sleep to be healthy. One’s life is made up of many major moderators which must be systematically mastered to lead one to a greater sense of purpose.

Life coaching consists in helping one develop a clear outlook of his or her life. More precisely, life coaching helps one determine his or hers divine purpose or reason of being.
Our personal training studio is located in the heart of Old Montreal. The qualifications of our personal trainers combined with their innovative training philosophy set our studio apart from all other gyms and private sports clubs.
At our facility, you can use cardiovascular exercise machines and strength training machines, but we favour calistetics, floor exercises using your body weight, free weights, unstable surfaces, power plates, exercise balls, resistance bands and pulley systems. With this approach, our personal trainers aim to ensure not only that you have fun training, but that you also develop two critical aspects of your overall fitness: strength and stability.
