What makes a great website?
This really depends on from what perspective the question is being asked.
From a designers perspective, the key ingredients of a great website is are: how intuitive it is, how the content flows, and if the design properly enhances the written content. For clients, it's how seamless the experience is in general which is largely dependent on the above.
For business owners however, the answer will shift as while all the above can serve to help with their image and present a professional and smooth experience to their clients, above all they need a website that serves many more needs all at once. Things like engagement levels, client retention, ease of updating/cost all have to balance each other. It's the designers job to always consider this when creating content by asking: what is the end goal of this page and is my design helping to serve that.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What goals do you want this to accomplish? Is it branding, gaining new clients, conveying information or something else? Most sites will serve all these purposes at once, but depending what level the business is at some may be more important than others to make sure clients reach their goals.
What do you love most about your job?
Watching it all come together into a cohesive package. There's a lot of sweat and love that goes into designing a page and often it really only truly comes together right at the end when nearing completion that you can step back and fully appreciate what you've accomplished.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Passion for design. I'm a programmer by trade, but design has always stuck out to me and was what drew me into website design.
