Excellent pastry shop tucked in a little strip mall along NW Centre Street. I appreciate the location of this pastry shop because you can purchase excellent quality desserts without having to drive across the city and go downtown where most French inspired pastry shops are often located. You must try the tiramisu pastry ball, hands down my favourite dessert there. The fruit flavoured mousse desserts are elderly/Asian friendly because my 90 year old grandma often enjoys treats that are easy on the tummy, light and not heavy tasting and, "not too sweet" (Bonus points in my books.) The prices ranges between $3.00-$5.00, which is affordable for delicate, high quality pastries. You can tell that a lot of work and effort is put into the detailing and design of their goodies! My money is well spent for the effort and quality, as I would never be able to make these masterpieces myself! More...

Should you not want to venture all the way downtown for your pastry, this is the place to try. I've been twice and the service has been courteous and efficient each time, the staff are friendly and patient should you take some time to decide (such as in my case). The macaroons are not melt in your mouth amazing quality, however their cream puffs and other pastries are definitely something to try. It's not too pricy and they do offer a quality catering service. However, the shop is smaller on the inside and not good for more than 4-5 customers at a time. There is no outdoor or indoor seating-more of a grab and go experience. More...

A little pretty bakery. Macaron is slightly big than the usual size, pistachio macaron is very tasty. German chocolate cake is good too. Cream puff has a lot of cream inside, they confirmed that was real cream, I would say put in the room temperature for a while, the pastry will taste not as tough and will go better with the cream. They have the best pastry and ice cream (only two wonderful ice cream types though) in Calgary. So many times I've bought pastry from other places and have had to just throw it away because it tasted like crap, but that is not going to happen in Orchid. I love their pastry and ice cream!

I felt the need to venture down the rabbit hole and explore this foreign store with the exotic name when it caught my attention one day. I asked myself, "Was this always here?" I walked in and chatted with the lady behind the counter. She was the sous-pastry chef and they've been around since 2009. They recently made the sign bigger (I guess bigger IS better!! Lol. It worked on me.)The inside is decorated in French classic style with a cute chandelier and trimmings. The atmosphere already screams, "TAKE MY MONEY!". The display case may look small but it's full of tasty French delights. I always pick up a piece of German Chocolate Cake, their signature Rollets and Tiramisu. Now I know who to blame when my skinny jeans won't fit me anymore. The sous-pastry chef informed me they use real fresh cream in all their pastries, nothing processed. You can definitely taste their craftsmanship: the desserts are light and fluffy with the perfect amount of sweetness. The price is $3.50/pastry but it drops to $3/pastry when you buy 6. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for: outstanding quality. They also do cakes for any occasion and recently started doing wedding cakes. I wish I discovered Orchid Pastry much sooner. It's a neighborhood gem, and is worth stopping by if you're in the area. They're so good, they're gonna make muffin tops of us all!!! Hahahaha!! More...

A really great hidden gem! The first time, I ordered a chocolate German cake and it was delicious! I recently visited the shop again, and got a salted caramel cheesecake and two macarons: chocolate and mangos. The cheesecake was really delicious and was not overly sweet as I thought it would be. The macarons tasted very fresh and were packed on with flavor. I would definitely recommend. More...

I ordered a birthday cake to celebrate our mom's birthday and decided to order from this hidden gem of a bakery, solely based on the reviews I read on zomato. I have no regrets and absolutely pleased! The cake was fluffy and light and the strawberry vanilla cream was not too sweet. I called and placed an order and the cake was made to order and ready the next day! Paid $27 for a 7inch round cake. I can't wait to order cakes from them again! And probably head back to try some of their other baked goods. Looks of the store from the outside are deceiving, but don't judge a book by the cover! More...

This is a little gem of a bakery in Thorncliffe! It is in the back corner of a strip mall with a very busy parking lot. The bakery is tiny, and eat-out only, but they have amazing pastries! They have traditional Mediterranean desserts such as baklava but their western desserts are equally good! I had a small lemon meringue pie - the crust was buttery and crisp, the lemon curd wasn't too sweet, and the meringue was caramelized and perfect on top. If you need fancy desserts and are in the NW - come here! sakuralovely.wordpress.com More...

Just about 2 weeks ago, when I was visiting my parents at Calgary, I found this little bakery 5 mins away from my mom's house. I walk in and saw a lot of yummy goodness. Funny thing is my mom don't even know about this place, and it has been open for more then 2 years. I got to talk to the lady working there, she told me her bakery is persian style, which I never had before. She introduce me to a few things. I definitely love it. OMG ......the pastry here are amazing. My boyfriend surprised me with a variety pack filled with four different type of pastries. Each one look way too pretty to eat. The tiramisu here is one of the best I've had. Really light and fluffy with a perfect amount of coffee flavour. The jelly rolls were soft and fluffy; not overly sweet. Orchid Pastry is the best kept secret in the NW. Hidden amongst the most unassuming of strip shops along Centre St and 64th, you wouldn't know you passed by quite possibly the best Pastry Shop in town if you were driving by. This sweet shop prepares exquisite hand made French/Persian delights from pastries, to bake goods and even cakes. You can order a box of sweets, cake slices, and other sugary delectables. Cakes will need an order as they prepare them on an order basis although they do have smaller log cakes. What I love about the sweets here is that Orchid Pastry's technique is different from nearly every other shop in town: their desserts are not overly sweet but still incredibly delicious, the cakes/slices are moist and not powdery dry, and they use fresh, real ingredients. Just one bite of anything and you'll taste what I'm talking about. I should also mention that customer service is always solid here, it's always kind, courteous service with a smile.Keep in mind that with this level of quality comes an acceptable premium in price. These aren't your safeway or superstore cakes so be prepared to drop a fair amount on these desserts/cakes if you're thinking about ordering one for a party (you should be thinking of / making up an event that calls for one of these delights -- "60 hour work week celebratory cake, anyone?"). Final word about this place: get up, drive here, try their sweets, and spread the word so that Orchid Pastry is no longer Calgary's best kept secret! More...

What a Great Bakery!. I found this under Calgary's top 20 bakeries & we were not disappointed. Ordered the vanilla strawberry cake & an assorted tray of goodies for a birthday with 25 people, everyone wanted to know where it was from. The staff was so helpful when ordering the custom cake & it was ready exactly when promised. My sister is inviting guests this next weekend just so she had a reason to try another cake. Yikes... working so close to Orchid Pastry is a health hazard! Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall, you would never know this charming Persian bakery existed. I especially enjoy Orchid's pastries because they are not overly sweet and light. My favourite items to get are their variety boxes (about $15-$20) that contains 3 vanilla jelly rolls, 3 cappuccino jelly rolls, and either 3 napoleons or 3 tiramisu. They also make baklava, canoli, puddings, and a variety of Persian cookies. The sponge cake of the jelly rolls are moist with a light cream filling. So far, the napoleons are the best ones I've had, with flaky puff pastry and a whipped vanilla custard-like cream. The tiramisu is also in my category of favourites, with moist layers of coffee soaked cake surrounded by a light chocolate cream. The cookies are about $1.60/each or cheaper for half a dozen or dozen (~$10). Highly recommend any of their buttery shortbread cookies especially the fruit filled sandwich ones or walnut with icing sugar. Other baked items to try are the: chocolate wafer; berenj (Persian rice cookie) with poppy seeds; and this chewy almond sandwich cookie with vanilla that looks and has a texture of a macaron. If you're in the area, stop by Orchid Pastry for delectable pastries and cakes. Definitely will not disappoint! More...

Their cakes are out of this world! I ordered a half slab vanilla strawberry cake for my son's birthday and everyone could not stop raving about how good it was! The cake was light and airy, the strawberry filling was light and full of strawberry chunks and flavor, the frosting was light like whipped cream. The cake wasn't overly sweet either which we all loved. I will definitely order my cakes from here now and am looking forward to their other flavors. -----29 Jul, 2012----- Great little bakery! I've tried their strawberry roll and saffron ice cream. Both are delicious! The strawberry roll was very fresh, extremely moist and had tons of strawberry flavor. The saffron ice cream was delicately flavored and left me wanting more. Highly recommended! More...

I was planning a birthday party for my mother, and having recently moved back to Calgary after living in Texas for 15 years, I was unfamiliar with the local bakeries. A quick google search and a check on Yelp led me to Orchid Pastry, a locally owned shop in a strip mall on Centre street not too far from my house. Their website gave me a good idea of the types of pastries they offer, and I was sold when I saw that they make a tiramisu cake with real fresh cream. I ordered a 1/2 sheet for $70 which could probably feed about 35 people and was very impressed when I went to go pick it up. The cake was gorgeous, and the flavour was everything I had been dreaming about since I ordered the cake a few days earlier. Light, fluffy layers of cake sandwiched between light, creamy layers of espresso flavored tiramisu goodness. Everyone at the party loved it (most importantly, my mother), and wanted to know where it came from. I was happy to refer them to Orchid. I will order from them again and can't wait to go back to try some of the other pastries they serve in the shop! More...

Orchid is a classy Persian pastry shop tucked into the corner of a less than classy strip mall. Â You would never know it's there unless you're really looking, but not knowing about it is a shame, which is how I felt when I walked in the door for the first time today. Â The owner said it's been open for three years. Â If you have someone to impress, Orchid will do so with its pastry presentation alone. Â I ended up choosing three items to sample and spent $4. Â Not bad, as these pastries are somewhat elaborate. Â The jam pastry I chose was made with raspberry, so the taste and texture reminded me of the jam jams that my grandma used to make, but fancier. Â The chocolate wafer was good too, but less sweet than I was expecting. Â Sort of like Tiramisu. Â The Cappuccino bite size cake looks like a cupcake, but it's not. Â It was very spongy and I should have used a fork to eat it. Â It also wasn't overly sweet but had all the right tastes for a coffee-flavored desert without being overwhelming. Â For an extreme sweet tooth like myself, these deserts didn't quite satisfy, but they are very good. Â I imagine that other treats have more sugar. Â I'm tempted to return for a log cake (they look amazing) or maybe even custom order a birthday cake. Â The website is also simple and classy, which is nice. Â Here you can see they have a few other interesting desserts and a second location at the Calgary Farmer's Market. More...

Hidden Gem. Orchid is small bakery that is tucked into the corner of Simons Valley Square. If you're not looking for it, this place would be very easy to miss. The pastries are nice and flaky and the filling is all made with real whipped cream. Sometimes when bakeries are located out of the way, the product may sit for a day or two and you get a skin that forms on the exposed cream filling. This isn't the case with Orchid. Everything that I had was fresh. I'll be back here again soon. More...
