What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
#1 Light !!
A camera does nothing more than record light. If a photographer can maximize the light on any environment and pose you to catch the most flattering light, you will have the most beautiful and striking memories. When looking for a photographer ensure they are adept at the conditions you need. A great portfolio of natural light daytime images in no way tells you how your evening wedding or indoor boudoir images might look.
#2 People skills
Even in a world of selfies, people still need to feel confident and relaxed. 40 years has taught me how to quickly put people at ease, posing them naturally for stunning images that flatter them. It starts before the shoot so you have no worries and know what to bring, how to prepare. The shoot is easy going and relaxed, with everyone actually enjoying the process. Finally, the images are professionally retouched so the stray hairs and another other imperfections are taken care of based on your personal preferences. All to provide images you are proud and happy to share.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I start with purpose.
A headshot for your social media page will look different than the one you want for a modeling portfolio, an album cover, or business card.
Next is budget.
We all have constraints. No issues. By understanding them we can set proper expectations, project scope and determine proper parameters such as location/travel, make-up, wardrobe, assistants, ...
What do you love most about your job?
Working with people and providing them with special moments. My greatest joy is having a boudoir client or bride review her images, and look at me through tear filled eyes, she's never felt or looked so beautiful.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've always been an entrepreneur and creative soul. As such working as a small cog in a large corporate machine was never as rewarding and or inspirational. As such a have a soft spot when it comes to helping other small business or independent professional truly succeed.
