What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Apart from the technical skill required, th photographer must be able to put the client at ease. A level of comfort and trust must be established , for the client to project his/her true personality in front of the lens and not hold anything back, or be tense. A photograph of someone whose real personality shows through his/her eyes and body language, a photograph that tells a story, I consider to be a great photo.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
First, I make every effort to get to know my client , the nature of the project, the client's vision, what the photos will be used for and where , client's budget. ---so that we are on the "same page" Communication is ever so important.
What do you love most about your job?
I think I am an excitement junkie. I love the excitement of meeting new people, meeting new challenges on every assignment , and solving each challenge , to the satisfaction of the client. Above all, I love the creativity involved . Brainstorming with a client so I "get" THEIR vision , while contributing my own. --A give and take, a collaborative effort that results in bringing our combined vision to fruition.
The adrenaline flow, the "high" I feel, when at the end, the client says " I LOVE it! Love your work!" is , for me, as important as the monetary aspect. Someone once said "Do what you love and the money will follow!" He was so right. With me, each day is different, exciting, rewarding. never a dull day! _ I am blessed.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My first career was in Fashion. I worked with many designers and photographers. During these years, I acquired many relevant skills that would later translate well in my work as a photographer. My professional schooling at Sheridan College, Humber College and Ryerson University, were great, but the hands-on experience in the working world was my best teacher. At one point, I decided to follow my heart and do what I love---photographing people, --for a living.
