For our birthdays, instead of buying each other something, Gord and I treat each other to the spa.  His birthday is tomorrow so we spent a couple hours today at Laya Spa & Yoga (Queen Street W/Ossington Avenue).  It's in our 'hood and surprisingly, though we've walked by it about a million times over the years, we've never checked it out.The change room with lockers, towels and robes and the steam room is co-ed.  The steam room was 110F.  There is a bathroom that has a shower (we showered when we got home as we live so close).I had scheduled Gord and I (ie our massages were done in the same room) for a couple's 90 minute hot stone massage with a 15 minute facial massage added on at the end.  Lynn was my masseuse and she was amazing.  I didn't want it to end!  Gord's masseuse was Elena and he said she too was excellent.  The room was 29C.The spa is very serene and relaxing and the staff was very pleasant and nice.  We'll be back.  They also have yoga classes that we would like to check out. This place is a hidden gem. I've past it a million times but only went for a treatment about a month ago for the first time. The customer service at this place is phenomenal! I go here for massages and waxing.The RMTs take good care of you and the waxers are attentive and great at what they do. I recently moved way out of downtown and made the mistake of trying another wax place [Fuzz] - and was punished for it with bruising along my bikini line. In over 10 years of waxing with Laya, this has never happened.I knew I HAD to go back to Laya and I wasn't disappointed when I did. My wax experience was awesome (dare I say, even relaxing) and I was treated like a valued client, not just an appointment to rush through.I will continue to go back here - the long drive is worth it! I've been going to Alexandra for a long time before she opened this place in Ossington. It became too far for me to walk there and then i moved across the atlantic so it's been too long since i've gone back. However, back I did go and the experience was still as great as every time i have gone. Although alexandra does not do the waxing anymore, the people who work there are just as clean and professional! i love using the use of hard wax! had a pre-holiday massage that included steam room use for 30mins. my rmt was amazing. staff wer great. they provided mini treat buffet by the lounge - mmm chocolate truffles was heaven after my service, they were out with grapefruit juice which came with service so i had calamancy instead. i loved that it was quiet not busy and had the change room and washroom to myself. i will definitely come back and recommend this place to others. Having done the luxury hotel spa circuit in Toronto, and coming away underwhelmed by the quality of the actual massages. ..I sauntered over to this local gem and thought--"hey, maybe I don't need a huge space full of glitz and glamour to get the most out of a spa day--what's the point when the massage itself is lacking?!". I typically get the most feel-good massages in clinical settings, however sometimes that chiropractors office just isn't zen enough! Enter Laya Spa. The best of both. It is an intimate, earthy, exotic space that tucks you away into another world. I've had RMTs Lynn and Arica--both skillful and strong. I have back and shoulder problems and I know if I saw them regularly the therapeutic value would be life-changing. Looking forward to booking a romantic couples massage there in November. Love this place! You feel relaxed just by walking into the space. The facials are great. I love Noor! She's who I started going to a few months ago and I've kept going to her ever since. This place is quite far from my home but for as long as I live in Toronto, I will never give up this place! I go to Pauline for wax services and it is always such a pleasant experience (which is saying a lot because I get brazilian wax), all the way from the receptionist to the overall vibe to Pauline's professionalism.Would recommend to anyone!

Had an amazing experience at Laya, having visited for their signature facials. Had mother/daughter facials for 3 and they accommodated us together in a peaceful group room which was an added bonus to be able to enjoy the treatment together. Found this place on the fly during our drive up to Toronto in July because I wanted to surprise my hardworking, supportive hubby with a massage. Laura was so helpful and sweet in setting up a couples massage for me at the last minute, and constant communication with her was great. She was even more kind and beautiful in person!Our RMTs were Lynn J. and Jocelyn B. I don't recall which I had, but both my hubby and I agree that they were both great at locating and really working out the muscle knots and tension. The pressure was perfect. My hubby fell asleep during the massage, which is always a good sign that the RMTis doing a great job! I only felt the massage was lacking a little because I don't recall a lot of attention on my arms and the hands. I always look forward to the deep hand massage. We used the spa afterwards. Friends -- I love this spa. Sure it's small, but it's in my neighborhood, it's very clean, it's very charming, but most importantly, they provide quality services. Let me give you be the names of the people who have provided great services to me: Lynn Jankov-- RMT -- is amazing at massage. She hones in on knots and works them out She is great at adjusting her pressure to what you like. Dont be fooled! She may be tiny but she is strong! She is very attentive and adjusts her technique to what your body needs. For example, my hips were so tight that it hurt when she massaged them. Instead, Lynn stretched my hips and it felt amazing. The pain went away! I can vouch that Lynn "sees" with her hands. She is also incredibly sweet and has such a calming personality. Everything you want in an RMT!Pauline -- senior esthetician--  gave me the Shankara facial and it was an excellent experience. She has great technique. For example, not once did the towel on my face get cold as she wiped away cleanser, exfoliator, mask, etc. Her touch is gentle and confident. Her massage between treatments was just dreamy. She also adjusted the products she used during the facial based on what my skin needed. She knows what she is doing because I left with glowing skin that has stayed looking great since I got the facial two weeks ago. I will be back to see both ladies again soon. More...

My mother and I came here for a day of relaxation and used the wonderful spa/treatment services Laya has to offer. After a bit of confusion at the beginning, the treatments itself were just what we needed. If you're looking for truly unique and invigorating treatments, this is the right place. However, what sticks with a client when recommending to a friend/family is that little extra, which here was lacking. My mother customized her treatment package from head-to-toe (literally) and was happy to pay the price tag that came with it. Five Laya Spa packages serve a light lunch, but because my mother customized her package, this extra is not usually included. My mother was at Laya from early afternoon till evening, paid $500, and even after I requested lunch for her, I was told they would not include it. I paid $24 extra (for a salad bowl) so that she wouldn't go through the day hungry. This does not leave a good lasting impression on clients, nor warrants for that 5-star rating. More...

I found this spot online and was looking forward to my visit. However, it completely exceeded my expectations! Not only does Laya offer treatments that most other spas do not (Indian head massage, back treatment, etc) which make it unique, but the service was fantastic. Looking for a relaxing experience? Laya Spa & Yoga is the place to go. They offer a variety of treatments - I went in for a deep tissue massage (ouch! ). I really enjoyed my experience, mainly because of the customer service and the environment. Everyone I interacted with was very accommodating and kind. The staff here go above and beyond to make the experience special for all their clients. My massage went quite well, however, it was not as relaxing as I had hoped - whether that's my fault or not, I don't know. My body was quite sore going into the massage due to stress on my legs from running. I asked for the treatment to focus on that area but the massage was more of a full body massage. They don't specialise here in sports recovery treatments, so perhaps that is why I didn't get exactly what I expected. Treated myself on my birthday for a prenatal massage in a spa atmosphere and I must say I think I had one of the best massage experiences at a spa.  Given my prenatal ailments my body needed a lot of work and I was very fortunate to have Michelle provide services for me. She provided the perfect balance of treatment that my body very much required and a relaxing touch that embodied what I was exactly looking for on this day. She was very professional yet super down to earth and even gave me some tips to help me with my physical ailments. The very moment I walked in I felt such good energy at this place. Don't be fooled by the appearance of a small space because the decor, cleanliness and overall positive energy at Laya is what impressed me. I currently reside in New York and recently planned my best friend's bachelorette. I stumbled across Laya Spa & Yoga and I'm so delighted that I decided to book them for our group. Our experience was absolutely wonderful! I did majority of the planning via phone calls and each of the girls were so incredibly helpful! They customized a package for our group with a group yoga session and individualized treatments! On the day of, we went to a yoga session with Aless at an off site location. The yoga session was relaxing and most importantly enjoyable! We were able to do yoga to destiny's child as per request by our group and it turned out fantastic! We also got a complimentary uber to the studio where we each got individualized treatments. I opted to get a massage and it was fantastic. Our group loved the experience and I could not have been happier. In particular, the bride to be was so impressed and had a great time! Just wanted to thank all the staff at Laya Spa & Yoga for such an incredible experience! We were pleased with all their services and how accommodating and friendly all the staff was! Went to Laya for the Monday and Wednesday special. Shankara facial for $65. I was greeted immediately by the super friendly receptionist. She took my coat, gave my sandals, and offered water while I filled out the consent form (for my first visit.) I had Vanessa provide my facial and she was awesome. The entire experience was incredibly relaxing. She did a skin analysis and chose products based on my needs. The exfoliation was so thorough and she does a great job really massaging your face while she performs each step. The best part is that while some of the steps soak in or dry, you get a head/neck/shoulder massage and also a foot scrub and massage! Heavenly. For $65, it's like multiple services in one. was at Laya today and the experience exceeded my expectations from the second I got there. The receptionist greeted me within seconds and sat me down to fill out the forms after offering me some water. Shortly after, my RMT took me to this huge, beautiful room to give me the best massage I've ever received! She made sure to ask what were the trouble areas and made sure me and my baby bump were comfy!The Shankara facial I received was amazing! Being an esthetician myself I didn't expect to be blown away - but I was. The foot scrub and foot massage during the mask was the perfect bonus. Everything about the spa is amazing. Had a lovely, relaxing, experience today. Elena did the salt scrub and Roberta did the Ayurvedic pedicure. Going on a Tuesday meant it was quiet and I had most of the facility to myself. Such a treat. I enjoyed the ginger tea and grapefruit juice as well. I'd never gone for a steam before and it was jarring at first. However, it quickly felt as therapeutic as it should, though (due to my personal comfort level / heat tolerance) I had to step out a couple of times, which gave me a chance to refill my water cup. I treated myself to a heavenly facial with Tracey, taking advantage of their special (Shankara facial on Mon & Wed for $65). The whole experience was pure joy, from the slippers and ginger tea they welcome you with to the soothing music and essential oils in treatment room. Great location and lovely little space for yoga and spa treatments. The service was great from the time I booked to when we finished. My boyfriend and I came for a couples massage and our RMTs were superb. We also had a complimentary steam which really topped the whole relaxation experience. The only thing I felt like the space lacked was a relaxation or lounge area in between treatments. I had a wonderful 1.5 hour facial with Alessandra (the owner of the salon). She was very thorough in explaining the process. Accompanied with the facial was a head, shoulder, neck and foot massage which was phenomenal. The best part was the special pricing $60 (on mondays and wednesdays only). I've been meaning to do this for awhile, but life got in the way and now I actually have a chance to do this review.I love this place! I received a Brazilian wax, a manicure and a pedicure last summer. It was the best treatments I have ever received! I will be back very soon for a facial, as I have heard they are excellent. The place had a very relaxed aura in there, not like usual places where there's people yelling back and forth, doors slamming, ect. It's a very relaxing environment. Laya spa is fantastic! The atmosphere was immediately relaxing, I loved all the extras they provided (tea, truffle, slippers, juice) and the staff were attentive and friendly. Words dont express how great this place is.  I get the Ayurvedic facial from Alexandra whom is absolutely amazing at what she does.  Right from walking into the place you feel a sense of relaxation due to the incense of burnt palo santo.  The hot steam room is one of the hottest steam rooms I've been to in the city and comes complimentary with some services.  It's a small place but it has all that you need. Awesome customer service and very reasonable prices in comparison to other spa's in the city.  For what you get and the time that they spend on you it's well worth the price.  Facials are geared to your personal body and or skin type.  They try to use all natural products which is great for people with sensitive skin.  I wanted to be greedy and didn't want to tell people about this hidden gem but i'll share the joy!  Check it out for yourself you won't be disappointed. I booked the Ayurveda facial with the senior aesthetician, Alessandra. It was originally supposed to be a mother's day present, but got delayed. I decided to still make it happen. My mom had been stressed I thought that it was a good time. Prior to the appointment, my mom was still tense and I really wanted her to relax as we were spending the day together. When she came out of the 90-min appointment, she looks totally different, happy, relaxed, and was ecstatic with her facial, that she found very enjoyable. I had previously taken her for other facials, but she said this was a unique and special experience. I met Alessandra after the facial, and she was such a genuinely pleasant woman. I would love to go back for  the services myself in the future. The receptionist there, Holly, was also super nice and exceeded my expectations with her customer service. Even while I was waiting, she offered me a seat in the lounge with slippers (they have really nice acupressure slippers), tea, water, etc. The atmosphere in the place was also ver nice. Phone receptionists were nice.  Took a moment to make an appointment.  Pedicure was decent, decent paint job.   Had the signature facial. ... Includes a massage foot massage and upper body massage - bonus!  It needed with a glass of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.   Lovely.   Facial includes fresh cucumbers on the eyes, and a aloe mask (from live plant) to soothe skin after extraction.   Lots of applications.  I lost count.  One con.... Awesome spa. While I was getting the facial, I received a surprise head and foot/leg massage. I didn't realize it was included in the price, but it was, so it is an extremely good deal. Very nice lady (Kara?, I think) and very good, gentle with facials. Products were amazing and I ended up buying some serum for myself. I have been using it for a couple weeks and it is working to fade the rosacea, but over all is keeping my face moisturized quite well. Will go again next time I'm in Toronto. More...

I'm still trying to process the events of what just happened.  I'm pretty sure it was magic though!  My amazing sweet boyfriend wanted to get me a facial as a gift.  I haven't gotten a facial in perhaps a decade or so.  My skin would always be super red afterwards and it just didn't appeal to me.  I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews before deciding on Laya Spa.  I opted for the Ayurveda Facial because I liked the idea of using all natural ingredients instead of the crappy chemical filled gunk most places use.  I called to find out more information about the service and pricing and spoke with a few different woman.  Each were incredibly helpful, patient, thorough, and friendly.  It didn't feel like I was being rushed off the phone.  That pretty much sold me on the place. The place is BEAUTIFUL.  For a small spa they really have done something incredible with it! The atmosphere is clean and calming and really attractive. I started in the steam room for 30 minutes which is included in the facial.  It was amazing.  Very relaxing and I LOVE the heat! Following that Alice took me into the room to begin the facial.  She asked me to hang my things up and lay on the table. I've never done a naked facial before but I'm game for most things so I was fine with it. She left for a while, and the wonderful subtle smells in the room and the spa-style Bob Marley music near put me to sleep.  I should mention that I'm really sensitive to smells but the smell in the room was nice and not overpowering.   Alice came back and began the magic.  I can't tell you exactly what she did but it involved a lot of amazing massaging of my upper chest, back, arms, and abdomen .  She did a light extraction which wasn't painful. It involved a great deal of hot towels on my chest, face and back. Heaps of delicious smells.  A mask made of chocolate, turmeric, honey, and probiotics. I honestly could have licked my face until it was clean and felt very happy about it! Apparently each person get's something different and tailored to their body type.  She used Aloe and rose water and some other stuff that was light. When I was done I went to change, and they brought in some freshly squeezed grapefruit juice for me which I downed and it was delicious! My only few things that would make this absolutely perfect would be larger robes for the steam room.  I asked if they had but they didn't.  I'm a big girl with lots of hip and the robe only covered one leg.  The other thing would be to clean the marble on the entrance to both the steam room and the shower.  The whole place is REALLY clean but those two areas didn't look it although the steam room and shower itself were spotless.  And lastly I like to know information and what's happening.  Perhaps other people just like quiet and like to relax, but I would have liked if Alice had told me what she was doing and putting on me.  I just find stuff like that interesting.  But she was honestly so amazing in every way that this is just me nit picking and who cares!  I'm still in heaven, super relaxed and my skin looks incredible and is so soft!  Thank you Laya Spa and Alice for this amazing experience.  I will definitely be back! What an incredible experience!!!  Such a cozy setting from the moment you first walk in. Lovely receptionist to take your coat. I had a 90 minute massage with Kim. The room was a beautiful wooden room, very serene. Kim was incredible, and really listened and focused on my problem areas. Was totally relaxed and less sore after my massage! Ended with a beautiful fresh squeezed grapefruit juice.  I was then given a beautiful robe, and headed into the steam room, which was a great way to end the massage!  I then had an incredible shower with a waterfall shower head, where they provided amazing organic shower products.
