I ordered from Kamasutra yesterday, expecting great things.  First off, they forgot part of my order, and instead of getting it to me the manager gave me a vague 'call and ask for me next time and I'll give you a free dish. ' I'm filled with confidence.  Secondly, the vegetable biriyani was absolutely terrible.  I'm not sure how you make a biriyani tasteless, but it was.  The rest of the meal was fine. The pakoras were great.  But overall?  Not good enough for a bill well over $100. More...

I hosted a dinner for my Meetup group at Kamasutra not too long ago and I was really impressed with the food and the service. We ended up sharing one of their set dinners. It came with an appetizer platter and then we got to choose a few dishes from the menu. Two of the dishes had to be vegetarian, which was totally fine as we all ended up really loving the eggplant dish the most out of all of them. We also had a lamb dish, a chicken dish and one with chick peas. Although the dishes looked very  similar, they did have their own distinct flavours.  The dinner came with rice and Naan as well. Service was super friendly and helpful whenever we had questions about the menu or needed refills on drinks. Definitely a place I would return to. Highly recommended. More...

This is my first official introduction to authentic Indian food and I truly loved it. My boyfriend and I decided to pick a cuisine out of my comfort zone for Winterlicious and now I recommend everyone to try it too! Prix fixe was $33 for main, entree and dessert. Everything was so flavourful, and my fav was the lamb shank because it was so tender and contained yoghurt in its sauce (I can't take much spice so this was just the right amount of heat). The mango dessert was beautifully presented but was a bit underwhelming because it was just manga icecream haha (My fault for expecting more flavours after both the mains and entrees blew me away)The rice pudding was soo yummy and I could honestly come back just for it! Thanks to the restaurant for making this one of the most unforgettable first Indian cuisine meal ever! More...

I will absolutely come back. If you are going with a group, there are combos you can choose. They almost put every classic and signature  dishes in the options More...

One really useful  thing about this place is that there are alwaysss tables available, which makes it an easy go-to choice if you decide to go out last minute and don't have reservations. I feel badly because their food and service are great, and they don't seem to get the business they deserve!Their vegetable pakoras and Brie pakoras are delicious. I highly recommend both. The Chana masala, palak paneer and lamb Rogan josh are also top notch. I think the Chana masala is their top dish.Reason for 4/5 stars is because I'm always too chilly in this restaurant. It's an open space so I'm sure it's expensive to heat, but I personally run colder and need a warm space. Bundle up, chilly folk! More...

I came across a deal that I couldn't resist so my sidekick, Raj, and I went out looking for Kamasutra. It's an Indian restaurant on Bayview, south of Eglinton, with a Green P lot conveniently located across the street. Once inside, we were greeted by a very cheery young lady, Danielle. The decor was very nice and upscale. We asked about the special that I had come across but the manager said it was only available Monday through Thursday, even though it wasn't dated. Anyway, we managed to get past that and the manager ended up taking care of us through most of our visit. We ordered from a four course menu that had lots of choices. We started with the Onion Bhaji and Tandoori Lamb Tikka. Both dishes were delicious, packed with flavour. The onion bhaji was crispy and was served with a tamarind sauce and pickled onions. The lamb was served off the skewer with a mint sauce, some veggies, and more of those yummy pickled onions. Wow, a great way to start our meal! The remaining dishes arrived all at once, each in its own bowl, making it very easy to share. It all looked delicious but the camera had to eat first. See photos. The Lamb Vindaloo is a curry stew with potatoes and spices. It was very good but Raj thought it tasted a little gamey. I loved it.The Kamasutra Butter Chicken had a lot of rich tomato sauce, maybe a tad more tomato than I'm used to in butter chicken but it did taste very good. The chicken was moist and had a good depth of flavour. This may be one of the top three butter chicken dishes I've enjoyed.Palak Paneer (spinach and cheese) may not be a very attractive dish but this version tasted very good. Again, maybe another top three. We tried the Malai Kofta, a dish I've never seen before. It's a cottage cheese ball in a creamy cashew nut sauce. Interesting, in a very good way. I would order this again.Rounding out our meal was a Chicken Biryani, Pulao Rice, regular naan, and garlic naan. The pulao rice had a little saffron, peas, and cumin. The naan was hot and crispy and the garlic naan was delicious. I love garlic. The chicken biryani was colourful and had a generous amount of moist chicken. This might be the best one I've had.We also tried Cheetah Indian beer. It's a lager that we both found was a little sweeter than the Kingfisher we tried recently. It was good.Overall, I have to say this is the best Indian restaurant I've been to. The food was excellent. The service turned out to be be really good, especially from Danielle, who checked in with us frequently. Now that I've discovered Kamasutra, I can't wait to come again. ;) More...

We went to this place for dinner with some friends. This was on the wish list of one of our friends and was quite highly rated, so we decided to give it a go. This place is located on Bayview Avenue among several other restaurants but was easy to find. It wasn't overly crowded for a Saturday evening. We called in before reaching there and were asked to just walk in.The decor of the place is quite good - as you would expect from a fine dining place. They had a sizable area for their bar, which I felt looked really nice. Surprisingly, there was no music, not even a light instrumental in the background, which seemed odd.In terms of the menu, they had several options, just like any other Indian restaurant. I liked that they had a Dinner for 2,3,4 option, which is a rarity. But they do charge extra prices if it is shared by more than the specified number of people. 3 of us went for the dinner for 3 and 2 others ordered from the al-a-carte menu. Prices were quite reasonable for a fine dining restaurant. In terms of food, the appetizers were not that great. We got the chef's special which was a combinations of a few different things. They were okay at best and one of the onion pakoras was gooey and under cooked inside. The main course was quite good. I really enjoyed the Malai Kofta and the Madras Chicken. My friends also enjoyed their Eggplant Bharta and Palak Paneer. The Butter chicken was good but missed the essential creaminess in it. It had a slice of orange in it, which I didn't understand. The Kashmiri Naan, which is supposed to be sweet, seemed more like a dessert and not to my particular likingThe portions were quite good and the 3 of us struggled to finish the dinner for 3. Our waiter did seem insistent on the fact that the dinner for 3 could not be shared, even though the other two were getting food from the menu. A few comments from him when the food was brought out didn't sit well with my friends who thought he was too much up our case.We had a good experience at this place. This is a good place for a fancy dinner without burning a hole in your pocket. There are some areas where they could improve, but overall, I definitely see myself coming back here and bringing more folks along with me. More...

Good:1. The food is amazing. The quantity is also good. The thali deal is a killer, a must try.2. Decor - simple and clean, makes it look spacious. 3. Staff is active and friendly.Bad:1. No music at all in the background, being an Indian restaurant u need some music all the time I guess.2. I felt the location was a bit far from where I lived but again this is more of a personal thought.3. They charge for sliced onions so that's a big disappointment.Price wise it's not too expensive and definitely not cheap. Overall a good restaurant and a must try. More...

As far as flavours and quality goes, not much has changed. That's a good thing! On this visit, we chose the Lovers Thali, a dinner combo for two that included an appetizer platter, two meat dishes, one vegetarian dish, rice, and naan. We chose the Kamasutra Butter Chicken, Saag Lamb, and Chana Masala. The appetizer platter included the restaurant's choice of a samosa, chicken, salad, a couple of other items, and two dips. It all tasted good but not particularly outstanding. The main dishes were absolutely delicious! As good as the butter chicken and chana masala were, I have to give the nod to the Saag Lamb (Oven roasted lamb cooked over a slow fire in a wonderful braise of seasoned tempered spinach) as my favourite! It was so rich in flavour and just hit all the right notes on my palate. Even the naan was so perfectly cooked. In addition to the great food, the service was outstanding! Two ladies took care of us throughout our visit, tending to our needs before we even thought we needed anything. Our water glasses were always filled and they checked on us several times to make sure everything was okay. Excellent! If you love great tasting Indian food with great service in a nice setting, come here! More...

After 5 years of being a loyal customer to Kama Sutra as I live in the neighbourhood and spending $$$ over the years, I  finally felt the need to write my Yelp review after the great customer service I received this evening (plus, my belly is full and happy of chicken tikka and eggplant bharta)I had placed a dinner order online,  prior to the restaurant opening, to pick up. When I went to pick up my dinner, I found that due to some sort of miscommunication, my order was not ready. Having been awake since 5:30am and barely eaten anything all day, I was hungry and upset. A lady (owner, manager?) apologized profusely, sat me down at the bar, brought me a fresh order of pappadums and told me to order any drink I wanted, on the house. After sitting in the airy, air conditioned restaurant eating pappadums and sipping my martini, I started to feel a bit better and looked even more forward to my meal. It was brought out hot and fresh from the kitchen, about 25 minutes later, with more apologies. I understand things happen and really appreciated having the snack and drink on the house. THIS is customer service, which is sorely lacking these days at many other establishments. Over 5 years of eating here I have NEVER been let down in terms of the taste and quality of the food. It is always consistently excellent, especially an area of the city not typically known for its Indian food. We always order chicken tikka, eggplant bharta and garlic naans, but have also had their curries, biryani, lamb rogan josh, samosa etc.  Everything excellent. Prices on the higher side, but portions are large. You will not leave hungry! The restaurant is very nice inside. Large, bright and airy. It was formerly an Irish pub and still has the beautiful solid wood bar. The selection of alcohol is large and you can order just about any drink you want. We have always had great service and been treated well. One star off because there have been a couple weird glitches over the years when I have tried to order online to pick up my food, but this can be rectified by just calling in and placing order over the phone. Plus, I do find prices to be somewhat high, compared to other Indian restos in the city. If you are ever in Leaside and in the mood for Indian food, I urge you to visit Kama Sutra!!!! More...
