Jacob is a fantastic teacher. He always picks great pieces that are challenging but manageable for me as a beginner. I wasn’t sure how the virtual lessons would work at first, but it’s perfect. He coaches me during the lessons, assigns homework and even sends videos to help me with hand placement while I’m practicing. I would highly recommend him as an instructor for all levels. More...

I am an adult student who has just started learning the piano with Jacob. He is professional, knowledgeable and very patient!
I have found everyone of our lessons informative and I have always walked away with a better understanding of the piano. The homework he gives me is perfectly catered to my skill level and feels very practical and applicable to what I wish to achieve with my piano playing.

I'm currently studying with Jacob during a gap year before I begin my Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. He has helped take my piano playing to the next level and opened my eyes and ears to lots of new concepts.
Throughout 7 (and counting) lessons, Jacob has given me specific exercises that led to improvement in several areas, including improvisation, arranging, time feel, comping, and playing in odd meters. Despite possessing a wealth of knowledge coupled with a virtuostic command of his instrument, Jacob always makes the lesson 100% about YOU, the student. Each lesson, he presents the perfect balance of review with new material. Most importantly, he's incredibly fun to work with!

What do you love most about your job?
I love being creative with music and the chance to improve every day. Sharing this process with my students is extremely rewarding.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was inspired to teach to share what I've learned with others. I've been playing and teaching in the Toronto area for the last 10 years, and have performed music in all 7 continents as a solo pianist and accompanist. My experience playing Jazz, Classical, and Modern styles professionally has given me insight into various approaches to learning and performing music. As such, there is no one pedagogy that I follow with my students. I am inspired to help you achieve exactly what you want with the instrument, without imposing a curriculum that may be outside of your interest. Conversely, I am also passionate about teaching RCM performance repertoire and theory, and Jazz theory/Jazz performance.
