Toronto
I'm about as down to earth and client friendly a lawyer as you'll ever meet. I'm comfortable with sophisticated or simple, and budgets of all sizes.
Once I understand your problem my focus is on solving it as efficiently as possible. Maybe you can do part.

As a recent graduate and first-time inventor with no prior experience in dealing with IP related matters, I was initially apprehensive about finding a lawyer who I could trust and afford. Allan was very understanding of my circumstances and found a creative way for us to work together. Allan is generous and often goes beyond what is expected of him. Over the course of the past year I have come to know Allan as a kind, empathetic, reliable and extremely talented lawyer. For anyone looking for trustworthy, legal counsel with a win-win mentality, I highly recommend having Allan in your corner. More...

What do you love most about your job?
Helping people learn to navigate their own contract negotiations. If I can point people in a good direction that's even better than me being directly involved in negotiations (though I can do that too!).
What inspired you to start your own business?
More freedom to take on clients and files that interested me. More ability to work remotely (now we all can, of course). And more ability to balance spending time with my family and doing interesting work.
Why should our clients choose you?
When you call you talk to me. Not an associate or a receptionist.
I speak plainly and tell you my thoughts and advice - even on how I might approach your business situation, if you ask for my thoughts. Half the time my advice is that they don't need to spend their money on additional legal fees. I value pragmatic solutions.
I'm a solo lawyer. Although I've worked at big firms and big companies, I now work for myself. So even if your file is "small", it's meaningful to me.
Let's talk!
Contracts
I draft, review and negotiate contracts. I'm efficient and so I'm cost-effective.
I'll help you understand what's important in your contracts, and how to draft and negotiate those points on your own.
I typically charge $400/hour for contracts, though I can often provide flat fee estimates for parts.
Buying and selling businesses
If you're selling your business you need someone who's been through the process on both the buy and sell side. That's me.
I can lead the deal, give spot advice, or just help with due diligence. You let me know what you need and I'll solve the problem.
I typically charge $450/hour for complex M&A work, though I can often provide flat fee estimates for parts.
Provisional patents
You have an invention and want to file a basic patent.
I charge $2000, including the government filing fee.
Don't be fooled by bottom-basement pricing. The question you need to ask is how much substantive input a lawyer will provide, to add value to the patent application, before they file. My costs are directed to my time on your patent, not overhead.
Business strategy - FREE
I love discussing how to best grow your business, offering legal input as we talk.
Usually this comes along with contract or M&A legal work.
No charge for this - I love strategizing as I learn about my clients' businesses!
