Great cupcakes and cake pops in the store - but go for an amazing carved cake! This cake was amazing to look at it but even better to eat.  It was four layers of vanilla cake separated by banana strawberry buttercream.  The kids loved it and everything was finished off.  Will definitely use them again for special occasions. Wow. Just wow. Whatever you do, get their cheesecake in a jar. Doesn't matter the flavour. You will most definitely experience a foodgasm. I recommend the peach blueberry or chocolate raspberry. They are made with fresh fruit and you will more than likely strain your tongue from trying to lick the jar clean. 5 star service and then some. Seriously. A must visit in Edmonton. More...

I passed by here on the way to my Dad's condo for vacay  and thought I'd check it out. We ordered a  salt caramel cupcake and the vanilla confetti cupcake. One thing I've noticed with the icing is it's made of butter, light and fluffy. I like how the cupcake isn't too sweet and light to eat. But then ,after hubby went out to buy the cake bombs, those weren't as good as the cupcakes, they're too rich with the chocolate coating outside. I have used whimsical cake studio in the past and have always been thrilled with the quality, taste and over all experience.  Since moving away from Edmonton we still like to stop in and treat ourselves. Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of eating a cake bomb, yummy. I have to state that even though the baking is stellar the staff is even better. Really wish I had taken a picture of my cupcake before I gobbled it down. Went there on April 26th, 2017. The place is small with a few places to sit. Tons of cupcake selections, I purchased 6 for $20. They were amazing, other places I've had are a gross dense heavy cake with thick icing that hurts your teeth. Whimsical cupcakes were nice, great flavour and the icing was so nice and light, like it had been freshly whipped. They also make vegan cupcakes if you pre order. Whimsical Cake Studio is pretty much a "dream" manufacturer. After checking out a few different options for custom cake design in Edmonton my wife (then fiancé) and I decided that they'd be the best suited to build the cake of our dreams for our wedding. After a consultation we knew we were going to be in safe hands.  Now, I have to say we probably gave them one of the weirder cake design requests that they've ever had, we wanted it to look like a Rough Collie (we both have a love for these dogs).  Whimsical Cake Studio were happy to indulge us and did an excellent job of bringing our collie cake to life. The icing was delicious and the cake overall was that lovely slightly moist way that makes you want to have another slice.  The guests at the wedding loved it. Although we probably did look ridiculous cutting a dog into slices :)Whimsical are also a great source of cupcakes, cookies and brownies etc. Check them out! More...

No request is too 'out there' for this place. When I called and asked if they could make me a wedding cake in the shape of our Rough Collie, the owner seemed genuinely excited about the strange request. After a few emails about the cake filling and many images of the dog we were modeling the cake on, plus a very reasonable price quote - we quickly agreed!A phone call a few days before the baker advised that the first cake was a little tricky and the dog was looking a bit bear-like so she made an alternative cake with a fondant Rough Collie looking majestic on top (for free in case we were unhappy which was totally unexpected). We actually loved them both and they made a great talking point on the day. I would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for cake but especially if they have any specific requests. I like Whimsical for the creative array of sweets and their great customer service (the owner is usually there and happy to chat with us). They have a bunch of homemade chocolates (peanut butter cups!), gummies and other candies (bacon pralines!), including cake pops (can't remember what they are called exactly but they make giant ones with icing in the middle). They also make excellent homemade creme eggs around Easter... be sure to pick some up if you can! Cupcake-wise I find they are ok - on the drier side but tasty, and they don't put as much icing as I like (but I know others who prefer less icing). Darcy, the 'new' owner of Whimsical Cake Studio takes her baking serious, but not herself too much, so she is always having fun creating new whimsical treats and cakes that other bakeries would balk at. If you can dream it, Darcy and her team can create it. Far too often people take themselves too serious and miss the point, which is evident in reading Yelp reviews for 5 minutes. This is a cake studio, that specializes in creating cake from visions in your mind, using butter, flour and sugar. They also sell amazing little treats, if you just want to pop in and indulge in good traditional real butter and flour cupcakes and cookies. I think it's important to note that this bakery came under new ownership and management a year or two ago, so disregard all the stuff before that. Darcy is amazing.  She and the rest of the staff have a passion for what they do.  Darcy is always experimenting in the kitchen making all sorts of fun candies and perfecting her recipes.   Every month they have a new special flavour.  As of right now there is one flavour of vegan cupcake and it is aweeeesome.  I will admit the frosting used to be too dense, but they've been doing research and it's amazing now.  i don't recommend that you go there- I demand it.And I swear to God if you park in one of their two parking spots and don't go to their shop, I will find you and I will beat you. We stopped by the other day to grab a cupcake and ended up buying 6! Small storefront, but friendly and helpful staff. They were pretty much out of stock for the day so we didn't have much of a choice for individual cupcakes, hence why we purchased 6. However, the red velvet cupcakes are to die for. They also make a variety of other treats that look quite delicious. And feature quirky decorations (such as the muppets and a painting of a goat) that was really my style. Considering that some cupcake shops charge $5 per cupcake, we were perfectly happy paying $8 for a pack of 6. I would definitely go back! More...

I love Whimsical!  I had the opportunity to order a Wedding Cake and assorted treats for a candy bar at the wedding and I can't say enough good things about the quality and the assistance that I received from the staff at Whimsical.  The cake was amazing, and we were told that the candy bar at the wedding was the best that anyone had ever seen or tasted!  Kudos to Whimsical for the cake pops, the caramels, the cookies, the peanut butter awesomes, the marshmallows etc....  I heartily recommend them, oh, and the cupcakes are amazing!  I hope that they will continue with the breakfast cereal series of cupcakes ... hint..... hint.....! I had Darcy from Whimsical Cakes make a custom cake for my wife's birthday recently, and it was amazing! I really had no idea what to ask for, but she walked me through a whole bunch of ideas.  I still couldn't decide on anything to make it personal, so she suggested we use pictures from my wife's instagram account to get some inspiration. What a great idea, and we came up with a great plan from the pictures. I really appreciated Darcy going above and beyond with creativity to make the perfect cake for such a special occasion. Not to mention the cake was stunning and exceeded my expectations. I've had my fair share of caramels from here too, and they're melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I've sampled more than a few Whimsical treats - the cupcakes, the caramels, the cake pops, the peanut butter awesomes - oh lord, those peanut butter awesomes - and everything I've tried is worth the hours on the treadmill it takes to work it all off. In addition to the fantastic little Yums, Whimsical also makes awe-inspiring custom cakes. To make my 40th birthday that much more special, my husband went to get a cake made for me. Darcy, the owner and head cake maven, asked him questions about me, and looked at some pictures. Then, she whipped up the perfect cake with a mini-me sitting atop my cooler with a bottle if Baileys. Perfect! I feel like one of the only Yelpers that think these are the best cupcakes in the city! I have tried a number of different shops and I keep coming back to Whimsical. They get the whole thing right! The cake part has always been deliciously dense and moist while the frosting is seriously the best butter cream. They do a sugar frosting too, which is also very good- however I much prefer butter cream. I also cannot comment on the cakes, or the process of dealing with the staff to create something custom, however every time I have been there I have been warmly greeted and well attended to. I love walking in there and seeing that they have day olds left- half price cupcakes!? Yes! I will most definitely keep bringing these in as office treats. It really boggles me that there have been so many comments about how these are just average cupcakes and that Yelpers have had better. I must admit I have fallen out of love with cupcakes in the last little while due to all the designer cupcake shops that have popped up all over the city due to the cupcake fad. Whimsical however is definitely well on it's way to winning me back. I came in today for a treat to take to the mister at work downtown but needed something that was easy to take with me on the bus.The super friendly man at the counter suggested cake pops or cake bombs which are a slightly larger version of a cake pop for those who are not in the know. I got a strawberry for myself and a chocolate for the mister and quickly dived into my strawberry one right away. The inside cake was super moist and the icing on the outside was sweet but not in that tooth decaying way you run into sometimes at different cupcake shops.The chocolate went over great with the mister and we both liked that Whimsical has resealable paper bags versus those awfully awkward little boxes you get when you buy cake pops at Starbucks.I will definitely be back for more fabulous and affordable treats from this cute little shop. I think the only way it could get any better was if they came out with some coffee and tea offerings to go with the baked goods. All they appear to offer for beverages at this time is bottled water. Oh this store is so freaking cute, I just love it!! And with a super central location in the Garneau. The owner is adorable, she is like a living version of her store! I love that they branded themselves as a Cake Studio, because really, a studio is wear an artist works, not a store. And she is most certainly an artist! While the cakes may be the big ticket item, the front of the house has cookies, cake-pop's, sweet treats and of course, cupcakes!! Now I'm not going to lie, I am a cupcake snob. I have been a customer of Cupcakes in English Bay, Vancouver for over a decade (for those whom don't know, they are the original cupcake store that started it all!) So I really dislike that so many cupcake shops have popped up in the last few years, often serving ill-made cupcakes that are too dense (no air pockets), too dry and with icing so sweet it makes you sick. So when I had my first cupcake from Whimsical I was beyond delighted; I was ecstatic! Light, airy and moist with a heavenly butter cream icing that was think and sweet but not too sweet. Perfection! We had my daughters 1st birthday cake designed by whimsical and it was a show stopper!!! Three tiers, three flavours with different icings. .. Yum! Everyone like the classic black&white cake with cookies and cream buttercream the best. And the classic vanilla. And the red velet. So really, all three were a hit. My daughter was turning 1. I wanted to give her something as beautiful as her, so I asked Natalie and Sideserf Cake Studio to help me achieve that. Deliver they did, in a big way. This cake was the most beautiful cake I could have imagined. The detail was fantastic and it didn't empty my wallet. I used Austin Cake Studio to make my husband's 40th birthday cake. He is a huge mountain biker. Holley made him a mountain with a bike at the top. It was so creative. The rocks on the mountain were made out of chocolate. We added casino chips at the bottom as he was having a casino party for his birthday. It was a huge hit! Not only was it great to look at but it was delicious. The inside was red velvet. The cake was moist and we got a ton of complements on how good it tasted. Holley was very professional and easy to communicate with. I realized the day of the party I hadn't double checked with her as I did with all the other vendors for the party. It didn't matter she showed up on time just like she had stated earlier. A pleasure to do business with. I will use Austin Cake Studio again. I stopped in here on a whim (lol) one day for a cupcake, and was pleasantly surprised. I love the cupcakes here! They have a nice selection of cupcake flavours, and a lot of the cupcakes I've tried here aren't overly sweet, which is nice. They also have a nifty photo album where you can see a lot of the cool custom cakes they've made. Oh my goodness I love this place! Their cupcakes are so cute and are to die for! They have cute cupcakes with creative flavours (Smarties) and classic flavours (Red Velvet). I have to say that I only drop in for a cupcake as an "indulgence".  I can't really comment on the cakes ...  though there are always a few of those Food Network decorated cakes on display.  I do find myself marvelling at what can be done with fondant.The cupcakes are a little piece of heaven though. Whimsical Cake Studio is the latest addition to the growing landscape of cupcake shops. In addition to a huge variety of cupcakes (normal size, minis, and even a few vegan selections), you can also find cookies, specialty cakes (I have never seen a bundt cake in person before), and unique creations such as the "brownkie" - a brownie with a cookie baked right into it. That is what I had - and although it looked small to the eye, I could only get halfway through it. My friend tried a peanut butter cup cookie, which had an entire peanut butter cup smack dab in the centre (I see a theme here . . .). While there, I also picked up a small gift for my mother - a cookie with an ornate Mom "tattoo" design on it in thick vanilla icing. She had it for dessert after supper that evening, and said the cookie was extremely fresh and tasty.Ironically, we did not try the cupcakes, but the selection seemed great and the "sprinkle station" where you can add your favourite sprinkle topping was a - dare I say it - whimsical touch. Whimsical Cake Studio also does a lot of custom baking for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions. The staff was extremely friendly and content to let us browse for as long as we wanted.
