Feeling Better for Life

Hello, My name is Patricia and I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and a registered teacher with Yoga Australia. Since 2016 I have offered professional counselling and psychotherapeutic services for the treatment of a range of mental health challenges including anxiety and depression, developmental trauma, loss and grief, substance use problems and relationship issues. I use an integrated approach which is informed by cognitive models to work with your thoughts as well as experiential exercises like mindfulness and relaxation to facilitate the integration of body and mind. My interest in mental health developed over ten years of working with disadvantaged young people and their families. Many of the people I was working with were confronting extreme challenges like homelessness, family breakdown and unemployment. In this context I chose to focus on working with mental health because when people are 'well' they have more power to change the situations in their lives which are not working for them. In 2016 I attained accreditation as Mental Health Social Worker which enables me to offer psychological strategies under the Medicare Better Access program. My practice is strengths based and sensitive to experiences of trauma. I believe that you are the expert in your own life and my mission is to provide a safe and affordable space from where you can discover (or re-discover) your own inner place of healing.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that I have the opportunity to connect with people at a very deep and genuine level that is rare in normal social discourse. I also love to see the transformation as people grow and find ways to get out of their predicament and take steps to create the life they want.

What inspired you to start your own business?

After several years of working in the non-government sector I felt that private practice would enable me to work more effectively with my own strengths and to provide a more holistic intervention to address mental suffering.

Why should our clients choose you?

The most important thing in a healing relationship is that there is a good fit between therapist and client.

My approach is collaborative. I will listen to you on a deep level - not only to your problem but also for your strengths, resources and values which you may have lost sight of, or possibly not even been aware of.

As a social worker my psychological interventions are informed by an understanding of the broader context of people's lives: the impact of environment, living situation, family, work, etc on your experience as an individual. I bring also the perspective of the Eastern wisdom traditions - the practice of yoga and mindfulness - to contribute to your healing.

Whilst I have knowledge and skills to share I believe you are the expert in your own life - my job is to cast a light on your own inner resources and walk alongside you as you learn new skills and re-discover what you already know.

If you are ready to take this journey - to find greater freedom from troublesome thoughts and emotions; increase your ability to take effective action to meet life's challenges; and create a more harmonious relationship with yourself, with others and with your environment, then I would love meet you.
