Hi!

I have many people coming to me because they are run down with the demands of balancing work life and family life. Unfortunately this means their own health gets put aside. So this is where their journey with me usually begins - a detailed discussion about developing a strategy/weekly plan that see's them getting adequate rest, quality nutrition and a healthy dose of exercise (the three pillars).

J.J. has been nothing but helpful and has taught me so much. Since training with him I have lost my love handles, I am fitting into clothes that I used to fit into ten years ago, and I have definition in my arms! I really enjoy our sessions - I always feel good afterwards, and he keeps things light-hearted and fun. I encourage anyone who is a little unsure around exercise to utilize his services. More...

J.J. helped me break through a plateau in strength. For some time I had been stuck at 100kg on my bench press, and 170kg on my deadlifts. J.J. sat down with me and explained a few things, and then he designed a new program for me. It wasn't long before I broke through the plateau, and my strength has been steadily increasing since. I am now doing 120kg on my bench press and I also cracked 200kg on my deadlifts!

I am very happy with how my training is going. J.J. knows his trade, and he is very professional - I feel confident that I will be able to reach my next set of goals under his guidance.

Since training with J.J. I have lost 14kgs and lowered my bodyfat % from 29% down to 22%. I have also increased my muscle mass by 1. 5kg. I am loving my sessions with him - we get along really well! His sessions are a lot of fun, but he is very professional and makes sure I still get a good sweat going.

His knowledge and expertise makes me feel comfortable that I'm in good hands.

I just got back from one of J.J.’s small group sessions in the park and once again I feel great – now looking forward to the rest of my weekend! Feeling energized and strong!

My husband and I had reached a point where we noticed we weren't keeping up with the daily demands of life. Dishes were getting left unwashed in the sink for days, the lawn wasn't getting mowed, and we didn't seem to be catching up with friends as often as we used to (even though we used to really enjoy it). I think we both realised that something was wrong when we cancelled date night to just stay at home and sit on the couch (date night was once something we both once looked forward to at the end of the week).

We realised we probably weren't as healthy as a couple in their early thirties should be. So we decided to look for a personal trainer.

We found J.J. online and got in touch. From the moment we first met up with him to discuss our goals, we have thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. All of the training that he gets us to do is tailored around the fact that we're a couple - he designs his sessions so that we are interacting and having fun with each other. By the end of the session we are puffing and panting, but I sometimes wonder if it is because we have been laughing so much! Tim and I enjoy the time we get to spend together training as much as date night!

Despite the fact that our training sessions seem quite relaxed, Tim and I have both lost a considerable amount of weight, and we have more energy again. We are once again catching up with friends for dinner and drinks, and date night is back!

J.J.'s energy is infectious, and his expertise means we always get a good workout. This, combined with his guidance and the fact that he really cares means that I am glad that we found him.

My wife Tina and I think the world of J.J. We have been working with him for some time now, and we no longer see him as just a trainer, but as a good friend.

My goals are a little different to Tina's - I wanted to increase my speed and agility for indoor soccer. J.J.'s extensive knowledge on sport and the science behind it meant that I saw significant gains in those aspects within a few months. I am in my thirties but this is the fastest that I have ever been. And my new found agility means I am often scoring goals around guys ten years younger than me.

My team plays J.J.'s team this weekend, and even though J.J. has been playing much longer than me, I'm confident I'll give him a run for his money.

Look out mate, I'm coming for you!

J.J. has been amazing. Since training with him I have reached my goal weight, and have kept it off since (three years and still going ). When I started with him we had a good chat and he reminded me that it is not much point in losing weight to only put it back on again in the future. So we nutted out a plan and came up with a few changes that I knew I could maintain. I remember walking away from that meeting feeling really good - we had came up with a strategy that I felt good about and knew I could maintain it. Since then, J.J. has been there to keep me pointed in the right direction, using his considerable knowledge and experience. Each session with him is always pertinent to my goals, but they are relaxed and fun - it's like training with a friend.

I'm in a great place now - I couldn't be happier!

I've been training with JJ now for nearly 12 months. JJ takes the time to listen to what I say about my training needs and develops programs accordingly. He quickly adjusts programs to suit any aches and pains I might have at the time. I enjoy my sessions with JJ. They are always different and I find JJ extremely flexible when I need to reschedule a session. I’ve been training with JJ for about 8 months now and couldn’t be be happier with the results.
He always mixes it up with varying exercises so I don’t get bored and pushes me just that little bit further each time. Exactly what I need in a trainer to keep me motivated.
Professional and knowledgeable, we have some great chats about life in general, my fitness goals and how to achieve them.
I highly recommend JJ for that personal touch with your training.

Q&As

The first step to helping someone achieve their goals is getting to know them. By this, I mean getting very specific and clear on what their goals are. I also find out as much as I can about their background (I need to know what their exercise history is, and if they have any niggling injuries that I need to take into account).

Their current situation also needs to be considered, in regards to their time commitments (work, family etc.).

Once I have an understanding of their situation, I then sit down with them and work with them to devise a plan.

With a plan in place, then it's down to business! Consistency over a period of time is key, and I guide them along the way (and try to make it fun and enjoyable).

Consistency and time.

You need to be doing what is necessary (exercising regularly, eating healthy and getting plenty of sleep/rest) every week over an extended period of time. It can be challenging to maintain this over an extended period of time, so often the key is finding ways to exercise that you enjoy. That is where I come in - I try to find ways to make exercise interesting and fun.

Seeing the smile on a client's face after they've made progress or reached a goal. It's amazing how happy a person can be when they start seeing results.

Being your own boss gives you a fair degree of freedom. This meant I could travel to anywhere in the world to work. (And doing a fulfilling job.)

Because I realise that helping a client reach their goals involves more than just exercise. A person can exercise as much as they want but if they are consistently eating an unhealthy diet, and are not getting enough rest, then they will not get anywhere. I also realise that many people struggle to find the time to prepare healthy meals and get enough sleep, so I sit down with them and examine their weekly schedule and discuss adjustments that they could make.
