Emotional and psychological trauma is the result of an extraordinarily stressful event. Trauma damages the psyche and produces overwhelming stress to the point where your ability to cope with the intense emotions leaves you confused and upset. Your sense of security may be shattered, making you feel helpless in a perceived dangerous world. Trauma therapy can help you climb out of the void and heal, enabling you to live a fulfilled and content life, free from a burden that is not your fault. At Inner Strength Counselling, Sydney we specialise in treating trauma.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a particular set of reactions that can develop in people who have been through a traumatic event which threatened their life or safety, or that of others around them. This could be a car accident or other serious accident, physical or sexual assault, war or torture, even disasters such as bush fires or floods. As a result, the person experiences feelings of intense fear, helplessness or horror. If you have ever tried therapy before and felt the practitioner didn’t care it is my pledge to you that Inner Strength Counselling, Sydney cares.

Where there is anger, there is always pain underneath’ – Eckhart Tolle

Anger management and acknowledging anger can be frightening due to possible consequences (for both parties in a relationship) and often people who express their anger describe the feeling of being ‘out of control’. The anger takes over, its intensity compromising rational thought and provoking impulsive behaviours such as physical and verbal abuse.

You can learn to control your response and reactions to anger with the help of a relationship counsellor. Anger is a normal, usually healthy human emotion but if it has become destructive, affecting the quality of your life and your relationships, you may benefit from the guidance of a professional counsellor trained in anger management. We offer confidentiality, understanding with no judgement and a listening ear.

‘Ultimately the bond of all companionship, whether in marriage or in friendship, is conversation’ Oscar Wilde

Relationships can be complicated as everyone’s personality is unique and there are always ‘two sides to every story’. Sometimes trying to work it out on your own or with the other person in the relationship seems impossible and an impartial third party – such as a professional counsellor – can be beneficial as they offer a non-judgemental listening ear and a safe space in which to explore issues and challenges. A counsellor’s job is not to tell you what to do but to work with our clients’ to help you understand:

The relationship you currently share
What you want from your relationship/s and from the other person
What are you prepared to do to make the relationship work?
How you both contribute to the relationship
Reactions of anger and distance you might be feeling
Ways to help you relate to another individual (maybe your partner, maybe a work colleague)
A lot more about yourself as an individual and within the relationship
