When you choose to work with my approach (Neuro Linguistic Programming – or “NLP”) you are creating change.

When we are working together, you will notice that we don’t spend a great deal of time on your background and story. This is often a place you have dwelt for a long time. You may even be creating some of your identity from it. We do just enough exploration to find the giant steps you need, to get you somewhere better!

We jump quickly past your story into active techniques to shift the way you think and feel and behave.

Our coaching helps you to action and effect transformational changes in behaviour that translate into increased effectiveness, engagement, and growth. Our clients appreciate the reflective practice, consciousness shifts, growth and awareness. We help you to stand in your power so you can influence others to do the same.

Coaching is a process that aims to improve performance and focuses on the ‘here and now’, rather than on the distant past or future.

While there are many different models of coaching, at Hand to Life Therapy we are not considering ourselves the ‘coach as the expert’ but, instead, the coach as a facilitator of learning.

There is a huge difference between teaching someone and helping them to learn. In coaching, fundamentally, we at Hand to Life Therapy is helping the individual to improve their own performance: in other words, helping them to learn.

Emotions are part of life, but actually feeling your emotions helps. For example: how do you know happiness if you don’t feel sadness? Small regular doses of emotion are important for guidance and direction, determining right from wrong and correcting mistakes. Left ignored, those little emotions can build up. Instead of a subtle emotional reminder, you may experience intense knee-jerk reactions.

When your unresolved emotions are left too long, they can limit your decisions or cause harm to yourself or people around you. The more you restrict these emotions the more the intensity builds, causing pressure that can erupt at any moment.

We do have all sorts of behaviours to try and keep those emotions under control. Unhealthy eating, alcohol, sex, games, porn, TV, shopping, gambling, whatever it takes to distract us. But when our emotions hit we can burst into tears, hit a wall, become crippled with guilt or fear.

These wild and uncontrollable outbursts only reinforce our need to control the feelings, and usually come with guilt, fear or sadness at our inability to ‘cope’. At that point, our emotions start running our lives.
