About

Over the eleven years I've been a personal trainer, I've seen far too many people crash diet, under eat, over train and waste time and money on snake oil products. All too often, trainees will also injure themselves by doing exercises which are not suited to them, or without correct guidance or attention to the right load and technique.

Elissa is staggeringly knowledgeable and experienced. Her work with you takes into account the context of your health and fitness and what your goals are. She actually listens and acts on it. As someone who can't stand the idea of working with PTs or going to a gym, Elissa has made me re-evaluate those sentiments. I've had her knowledge levels to draw on and she's been very supportive. The results speak for themselves, I couldn't be happier that I sought out her expertise. She's beyond worth it. More...

Elissa’s guidance and unwavering support has been critical to my training, nutrition, recovery and overall health and wellness. I first started working with Elissa from Directional Strength in 2017, after requiring specific nutritional guidance to compliment my training for a 250 KM ultra-marathon. After following Elissa's nutrition plan, I had the energy to train and recover efficiently and completed my goal event, a 250 KM ultra-marathon across Iceland. In mid-2019, I decided to switch gears and focus on strength and increasing lean muscle mass. After following Elissa’s hypertrophy programming, ongoing check ins, feedback and nutrition protocol for the past 4 months, I’m very proud to say that I’ve increased my body weight and muscle mass by 10 kg, I’m setting new PB lifts and each week my strength gains are improving considerably. The absolute benefit, though – I feel energised and well rested during the week and ready to tackle the next day of training. Working with Elissa is key to my overall performance. It’s also essential to my overall wellbeing. One of the things I love most about working with Elissa is that the focus is on education and how I feel and perform each day. Elissa takes a holistic view to training and nutrition and works with me to ensure the priority is placed on athletic and strength performance, my energy levels and having a healthy relationship with my body. For me, this is absolutely critical. I love that I’ve found a coach who values having a positive relationship with my body and with my health. The performance and strength gains are an absolute bonus! I find great strength, clarity and support working with Elissa. She has been integral to my ongoing journey with performance, health and wellness. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the future holds with our training! I would absolutely recommend working with Elissa – it’s been a total blast! More...

I have know of Elissa’s fabulous work for some time now and despite recommending her to numerous others I had not been to see her myself. After spending two years at a computer and regular visits to have acupuncture, massage and adjustments for shoulder and back issues a bright spark suggested Elisa might be the answer. It’s been two months and I have never felt better - stronger and without any back or shoulder issues. I have stopped my weekly massage and I wish I had done this sooner. Elissa is so much more than a personal trainer... just go!!! More...

Q&As

Reaching your fitness goals involves more than just diet and exercise. We also have to consider your stress levels, sleeping patterns, religious or cultural background and your individual attitudes and beliefs.

I help client achieve their fitness goals by taking all of the above into consideration, and helping them to forge their own way of reaching them.

Diet and exercise is important for everyone, but there's no one way to do it.

Let me help you figure out which way works for you as an individual, so that you can KEEP those results.

For those who are new to training, Directional Strength is based in a smaller personal training studio in the inner Eastern suburbs of Melbourne called Alterego Holistic Fitness. The training space is much less busy, more inviting and less intimidating for those who are returning, or new to training.

Please check out Directional Strength on Facebook for examples.

Consistency.

There is no doubt you need to eat and train in a way that supports you goals in order to reach them, but you also need to eat and train in a way that you enjoy so that you're driven to do it on a daily basis.

If I can teach you the key components of how to eat and get results, then you'll never be "off" your diet again, because you'll be educated as to how to eat and helped to learn how to make those choices without feeling guilty or deprived.

If I can teach you how to love exercise and to be reminded of how amazing it feels when you are strong and fit, then you'll keep exercising because you love it and not because you "have to" do it.

I have a huge variety of clients from all walks of life, industries and ages.
My clients range from heavy metal musicians to retired women in their 70's, and they all inspire me to become a better coach.

I enjoy creating a relationship with my clients where they feel comfortable being themselves with me, and because they feel supported, pushed and educated - they are able to do things they never thought possible.

I particularly love coaching women to become physically stronger, and to realise their bodies are more than just an ornament, and you can feel athletic and powerful no matter what your body looks like.

I wanted to lose a bit of weight in my early twenties, so I hired a coach.
He gave me such an extreme diet and exercise regimen that I developed eating disorders, bulimia and body dysmorphia. Working with this coach for 12 weeks left me sick for literally years, and it took me a long time to get my health back.

After that I pledged that I would give people an option to reach their goals in a way that put their health first.

I study constantly, and am always looking to learn and understand more about the human body so that I can keep improving my clients' results without impacting their mental and physical health.

Well if I haven't convinced you to request a call yet, I always offer a free initial session so that you can experience my coaching style with no obligation. I guarantee you will learn something and achieve something incredible just in the first 45 minutes.

I can provide online training services in the form of programming and nutrition advice, as well as weekly check ins via either zoom or video. This is a more cost effective option and really suits those who have had a personal trainer before, and don't struggle with motivation but just want a blueprint to follow to nail their results.

The personal training studio from which I work has strict COVID-19 regulations and we do our utmost to abide by those standards. All equipment is wiped down, sanitiser upon entry, rigorous tracking policies and also limitations on the number of visitors.

The training studio is called Alterego Holistic Fitness.
