Q&As

The ability to get in, see solutions that others may not have, and then to help the owners achieve this. In the true spirit of Nachas, I get immense joy when my clients succeed.

Like all of us - we have stories - mine entails a father who failed in business causing hardship, a ruined marriage and who became a broken man. He was not a bad man, just bad at business. If only he had a guide. Personally I have chosen wrong business partners, made bade investments and gained many battle scars over 40 years. How can I help others learn from my mistakes? My mission is to help alleviate entrepreneurial poverty by guiding business owners to avoid the mistakes that my father and I made, and thereby to ensure their families do not suffer the way we did when I was a youngster.

My personal philosophy is GNU - have you heard of it?

GNU embodies 'new' - a fresh and dynamic approach to business, breaking away from stale, conventional practices. It stands as an emblem of perpetual motion and adaptation, mirroring the largest migratory land mammal, the Wildebeest or GNU, reinforcing the ideology of continuous movement, evolution and embracing the journey.

But beyond these initial layers, the true essence of GNU comes to light, deeply embedded in the rich tapestry of human connection and global understanding.

The 'G' stands for Gaia, inspired by the ancient Greek deity symbolising Earth. Gaia represents a holistic approach, viewing your business as a living organism within the broader ecosystem. Every function, every role, every decision is interconnected, shaping the health and success of the overall enterprise. It's about nurturing sustainability, responsibility, and harmony with our environment, embracing practices that respect and maintain the delicate balance between commerce and nature.

The 'N' is for Nachas, a Yiddish term capturing the joy and pride derived from the achievements of others. In a business context, Nachas is about fostering a culture of shared success. When your team achieves, so does the business. It's about cultivating an environment where accomplishments are celebrated, where employees feel valued, and where their growth translates directly into the growth of the organisation.

Lastly, the 'U' represents Ubuntu, a philosophy rooted in African wisdom, encapsulating the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. In business, Ubuntu manifests as a culture of empathy, mutual respect, and collaboration. It's about recognising that our success as a business is intrinsically tied to the success of our people, our clients, our community, and indeed, our world.

The power of GNU lies in this intricate weave of Gaia, Nachas, and Ubuntu. It's about recognising the interconnections that define us - as a business, as a community, as part of the Earth. It's about shared joy and success, about mutual respect and connection. This is the essence of the GNU philosophy - an enlightened approach to business that embraces progress, people, and our shared planet. By integrating these principles, we not only steer businesses towards growth and prosperity, but we also contribute to a more sustainable, compassionate and interconnected world.
