What kind of accounting services do you provide?
Virtual CFO and business consulting. I also offer bookkeeping services with my team.
Why is it so important for businesses to hire a great accountant?
As businesses grow, their processes and systems need to evolve to handle greater cash security, controls and business forecasting. A good accountant (not necessarily a tax agent) knows the pitfalls and processes required to make the transition and growth as painless as possible without sacrificing accountability and visibility.
What do you love most about your job?
Helping businesses to grow to help others achieve their business and life goals.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Discussed with customers/suppliers growing quickly about the proper systems and controls needed. Then seeing those who listened, succeed and those who didn't, collapse, led me to realise that there was little on offer to smaller businesses from those who've been there, done that.

Having worked in and with businesses that went through the pain of rapid growth, I'm well experienced in what works, what's needed and what doesn't work.
I also focus on efficiency to enable business owners to spend less time working IN the business, freeing them up to work ON their businesses.

I offer fully remote services by default (occasional on site available by arrangement).
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Working remotely reduces risk of accidental transmission. I also use virtual meeting software (Teams/Zoom) for meetings.
Reconciliations
Completing various account reconciliations so that not only the value is correct, but what makes up that value is also known. This reduces the risk of surprise expenses hitting the P&L later on.
Process review and optimisation
Is the way an admin task is being done the most efficient?
We all have plenty of tasks to do, so doing the repetitive, daily tasks as quickly and accurately as possible can free staff up to work on those tasks which add value to the business operations. Why take 5 steps to complete something when you could do it in 2 or 3?
We review administrative tasks for possible efficiencies and suggest new processes or systems to gain time back.
Excel automation/management dashboards
The ability to integrate and automate Excel and dashboard reporting has increased significantly in recent years.
If you have a report that you regularly export, reformat and modify to produce other reports, these can be streamlined or fully automated to gain back time to work on more productive tasks.
Virtual CFO services
These go beyond the regular tax and GST returns (looking backwards) and focuses on the future, I.e business strategy, systems, budgeting and forecasting (including cash) as well as business planning, management accounts and commentary.
A good CFO is a true business partner... they are a sounding board for owners to bounce ideas off and understand not only the financial implications of a decision but also the impact across all parts of the business too.
Not every business needs a full time CFO, but how much is it costing due to decisions based on inaccurate information? Often more than a Virtual/fractional CFO does.
