Dog Training
Expected Sally to be further advanced in her trading to be able to walk on a lead around the block just too my treats Sally expects this all the time now
Reply from Power Pooches AU
Sally is a working dog that needs a min of 2 hours exercise per day. This exercise is not a slow walk to the shop to get the paper. And it is important, as I taught you, to meet her needs. Only then will her behaviour change. As mentioned for sally to be at that level you need to train every day and fulfill her needs. Bill i went out of my way to help you. I also said we needed to have sally attend places with distractions and you agreed when booked but then declined to attend. Sally is great, but as with every dog, you get out of it what you put into it. I do not use aversive methods and actually, im a little disappointed that you expected this. Anyway I wish you the best and yes you can have Sally walking well if you put in the training.

Jake and Power Pooches are just the best! He knows his stuff, makes things easy to understand. He really took notice of our needs and showed us ways to incorporate her training into our daily routine to keep our cheeky girl, Luna, on track easily. Thank you so much Jake, Sasha and all the other pups we met at the socialising/training sessions 🙏 More...

This type of training provides the tools to help you build a healthy relationship with your dog which is sustainable, and this is where Jake provides you with the best possible techniques to help you achieve your desired outcomes. Jake walks my two boys Ralph and Ruckus 2 times a week. Jake has been fantastic, seeing my puppies triggers and letting me know about them. My partner and I are thrilled with how the dogs are in such a small amount of time with his advice we found that we needed a slow feed bowl for Ralph and have been given tips on training for us to stop the two puppies from pulling while being out walking. This past week we even had Jakes nephew come and help walk the dogs which is very important to us as we have 2 children one with disabilities that we want to be able to help walk the dogs. Thank you Jake and everything you have done in this short time. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! More...

What do you love most about your job?
Pooches give me so much love and trust. I have been able to bond with every dog I have worked with so far and I have learnt more about myself by spending time with dogs.
I have adhd and for most of my life worked in hospitality, entertainment, I was a DJ for 36 years and could not slow down. After adopting Sasha and starting to work with dogs that are anxious, I had to learn to slow down, find patience and relax myself to help the pooches. Stopping for a nap in the middle of the day, is a blessing, not a hindrance.
Dogs like routine and o do I, but they are also ok with just stopping what they are doing and tasking a moment to chill. This is a new concept to me that I have embraced, and life is so much better for it.
Coming home with slobber over me, dirt, hair, sweaty, scratches and smelling like poop does not bother me as I always learn something from my doggy friends.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After adopting Sasha and finding out she had a fear of dogs, I needed to find help in training and behaviour issues. This was tough and along the journey I encountered many dog owners who are uneducated in dogs with issues like this.
I used to have off-leash dogs rush at us, causing Sasha's anxiety to sky rocket, thus getting me angry, and on three occasions I was physically assaulted by dog owners who continued to walk dogs off-leash in on-leash areas.
I then went on a crusade to get council to provide safe spaces for dogs like Sasha, but no help. I have since tried contacting Victoria premier, mps, newspapers, and no one wants to help, so I started Power pooches to have a place to train and allow special dogs somewhere safe to learn how to control anxiety.
I have been overwhelmed with how many dogs (especially since covid lockdowns) need help and so glad to be helping change lives of pooches and owners.
Why should our clients choose you?
I have now helped more than 300 dogs with issues from reactivity, anxiety from dogs, separation anxiety, CCD, puppies, behaviour issues and more. plus I teach the owners and pass on any information I learn.
I do not charge for all the extras, I believe everyone should be able to afford training and care for their dogs.
I give free follow up service and advice personally.
I treat all the pooches like my own, bring equipment, spend time with owners passing on information, always adding educational items to the website and whatever I suggest to clients, I follow with Sasha
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
I can provide remote service, although prefer at least 1 session face to face first. I already have lots of helpful videos and information at www.powerpooches.com or youtube

Dog training
Want a well mannered dog that is still allowed to be a dog?
Want to learn how to know what your dog is telling you?
Need some help knowing how to look after your dog?
Learn voice and hand cues with positive reward methods.
Have the whole family join in the sessions.
By being taught basic cues and how to teach them to your dog, you will gain their respect and trust.
There is no need to be the pack leader or stop letting your pooch sleep in your bed. Just because your pooch is part of your family and sometimes spoiled, does not make them entitled or bad!
Home training sessions are private and all family members are invited to attend.
During the session, we demonstrate the techniques used, then invite you and your family to perform the training.
We will guide you through each cue.
Once your dog knows the basics we will then put these into practice during Environmental and Socialisation sessions.
Power Pooches Training sessions are is all about educating YOU (the owners) not your dog. Training can be in your home, backyard, shops, public place, at a park
Any age dogs are welcomed, along with rescues and those that need extra attention. We have experience with reactive and anxious pooches, puppies and older dogs.
Our training is private and only your dog/s attend. Force free methods are used and we work on building up your relationship with your dog. Treats, toys, games, praise and your dogs wants are used as rewards during training sessions.
Training can be for one or two reasons or we can put a plan together that covers most obedience cues.
Desensitisation Sessions
Desensitising Sessions are run at a place that allows your dog to be confronted with triggers in a controlled way.
This could be our private facility in Pakenham, a public place, your street, or home.
These sessions can help with reactivity, fear, anxiety, resource guarding and much more.
Slowly exposing the dogs to triggers that cause their anxiety issues to desensitise them. While doing this, creating a fear free positive experience by distracting them with games, treats, training, toys, hugs and enjoyable moments.
We set up situation's where your dog is exposed to these triggers in a controlled, safe way.
Then we use counter conditioning to change your dogs negative triggers to positive ones.
Desensitising sessions help with many different emotional issues in both dogs and the owners. As many dog owners develop anxiety when they know their dog is becoming anxious.
We give you tools to manage both your dog's emotional state and your own. Allowing you to learn to settle, thus creating a more relaxed environment for both you and your dog.
Power Pooches has helped over 250 dogs with a range of anxiety issues and given owners a range of tools to be able to enjoy taking their dogs out in public again.
FREE Meet N Greet
A Meet N Greet is required before commencing any of our services.
This service is free and will allow us to get an insight into your dogs environment, socialisation, activity schedule and needs of your dog.
These are conducted at your home so that we can view the dynamics between your pooch and family.
This is also a chance for you to me our trainer and ask questions. It is important both parties, especially your dog, have a trusting relationship.
Environmental Sessions
Environmental sessions are an important part of any dogs training program and should be done in a controlled way.
Dogs that are not given time to learn about our human world, can develop a range of behavioural issues.
Exposing your dog, to our human world, must be done slowly and in a way that you can keep the experience positive. This means you need to have some control, on potential risks and triggers.
Choosing the right places, times, weather, possible triggers, all need to be considered when taking your dog to human places. We take into account all of these things and much more, when booking in Environmental sessions.
Environmental sessions are also used to practice cues learnt through training sessions. We put the cues in practice, while your dog is exposed to distractions like: people, noise, cars, smells, etc
For anxious or nervous dogs, these sessions are perfect to help desensitising them, while showing owners how to manage reactivity and anxiety.
Owners learn how to advocate for their dogs by gaining confidence to say "NO" to wannabe dog patters!
Environmental sessions are held at various public spaces and slowly show dogs that our world is not so scary.
With us by your side, your dog will have a positive experience in the human world and you will create a stronger bond together!
Walk N Train Sessions
Walk N Train sessions are designed to educate you on the correct exercise needs of your dog. This is dependent on the breed.
Very few dogs want to walk at a slow pace, on the left side, not allowed to sniff, while mum chats on the phone, sips a latte and pays little attention to her pooch.
(If this is what you want me to train your dog to do, please go find a group trainer!)
Walking your dog is a way to ensure your pooch is getting their daily dose of breed related enrichment and exercise. Hunters need to hunt
Chasers need to chase
Retrievers need to retrieve
Get it?
And dogs do not walk in a straight line!
They need to sniff, they must sniff, this is a dogs twitter. Sniffing gives them information, and to reach a scent, a dog needs room to move.
So we teach you how to walk your dog using long leads. How to get your dog to stop, wait, turn, to leave things alone, go in different direction, give way to people, leaving the house calmly, all on a long leash that allows them to still do what dogs do.
Our Walk N Train sessions are held at various venues, including: public spaces, around your neighborhood or in your own backyard.
