What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Lighting. Photography is all about light. Without light there is no photo. So I look for good lighting in the right place which is not harsh. If the light is poor I will use off camera flash or diffused on camera flash to help.
Also understanding how to capture true emotion from clients rather than stiff, posed shots. Even unposed shots are often set up to look unposed but tend to capture better emotions.
The other thing to create a great image is good editing. I use Lightroom and Photoshop to edit all my photos.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
What vision do you have for your shoot? Do you have particular poses you would like included? Who are the people you wish to capture the most photos of? What do you need to know about me and how I run things to get the best shots for you? Do you need assistance with picking outfit colours for your shoot? If you are having a maternity shoot I would ask if you would like to use my maternity wardrobe. I try to ask the questions that clients may not have thought of but will be relevant to their shoot.
What do you love most about your job?
I love taking beautiful images which will become memories. I love taking photos of newborns because babies are perfect subjects! I love that I get to do something I love but also provide a service to clients which will see them have wonderful memories as time passes.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The realisation that I could do something I love for work. I also realised how much I love taking photos of family and that I could do this for others who may want professional photos rather than phone photos.
Why should our clients choose you?
I offer excellent value for money. I provide options to have high quality prints and albums which is something most clients always plan to do but never get around to. The task can seem overwhelming but because I do everything you can have beautiful products without having to do the work. I also provide excellent customer service. I am a great communicator and will always respond to client enquires in a timely manner.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
I am fully vaccinated, including a booster shot. I will continue to have boosters as required. I will use a mask if clients feel safer that way and in-regards to newborns would always use a mask anyway unless the clients say it is not necessary. If clients have concerns about me being close to them while shooting I can use a longer focal length lens to allow more distance between me and the client. I use hand sanitiser before touching any babies and continue to do so through the shoot if necessary.
I am also willing to disclose my vaccination history for all other childhood diseases especially as this relates to newborns. I am up to date with Whooping Cough as an example.
