We used Brad as our architect on a large home renovation. It was our first major project like this, and Brad was both professional and patient as we learned how to navigate the design process. We already had a pretty good idea of what we wanted, and Brad did an excellent job taking that “napkin” sketch, turning it into draft plans, and eventually detailed construction drawings. Each step of the way, he solicited our feedback, explained why things weren’t possible and offered alternatives that he thought could work for the space. The process was smooth and methodical. We never felt rushed, and always felt like we were in good hands. We retained Brad once the construction started to check in and sign off on progress before invoices were paid. This ensured that what was built matched what was captured in the detailed plans. He worked directly with the general contractor to answer questions and fix issues as they came up. Not everything went according to plan once the construction started, and having him reviewing the work regularly meant that decisions were discussed before they got made, rather than many steps down the road. My husband and I hired Brad to help us design plans for the renovation of our kitchen, master bath, powder room, family room and the addition of an outdoor stone terrace. Brad was a delight to work with. We had tornado damage to 20% of our house.
We are in the commercial real estate business, and work with other architects in NY. The project started in the middle of 2018. Brad gave us projected costs for the project
Brad has a delightful personality and understood our needs. He guided our decision to expand the house instead of replacing the damage. We made numberous changes inside and outside, and he was always willing to help with these changes in a very pleasant way. He never rushed us. We found Brad well organized. He maintained check lists, so that we able to go back to check off all open items. We had to obtain several approvals, since we live on a lake, including a board of zoning approval. Brad made these applications and represented us at the hearing and obtained all approvals. Brad sent out plans for bid to builders he worked with. At our request he prepared bid forms with details required for each trade. he set deadlines for the bids, which are due shortly. We anticipate that Brad will be reviewing the bids with us and help us with choosing the builder. We would unhesitatingly recommend Brad to anyone looking for a qualified architect with a wonderful disposition. We found Brad's fees fare. We are still working with Brad hope to continue working with him during construction.

I've been a builder in Fairfield County since 1990. I've dealt with a lot of architects and designers in my day, but nobody has come close to the professionalism of Brad DeMott and his team. Ive been hesitant to get back into the spec building aspect of our profession after losing a lot in the 2008 financial collapse. After securing a project and the financial backing I sought out the right team to move forward with a spec renovation in Riverside, CT. I met Brad on another job site that I was dealing with for a client. After several meetings I decided Brad was the right choice for our new project. I have not regretted that choice. Brad was prompt, courteous and a good listener. He addressed many challenging issues with a positive attitude and a creative eye. He responded right away when I had a concern. Brad and his team were great to work with. We completely remodeled our downstairs, including removing a few load bearing walls. Brad was critical in the process for deciding how to bring our vision to life, and it has turned out amazing.

In addition to designing the space, he handled all the construction drawings for our permit and worked directly with our town's building department. When we asked for additional changes in the middle of the project, he was unbelievably quick with new drawings and submitting a permit addendum.

I hired this firm to design an addition to my home in Bethel. The price was originally $14,000 but Mr Demotte told me that due to the size of the addition that we should increase the price to $16,000 to cover the additional work needed for his time. When Mr Demotte submitted his final bill to me he claimed to have not tracked his time and the additional cost would be almost $8,000 but he was going to give me a "discount" and reduce the cost to $6500. I told Mr. Demotte that this was not the agreement. I had already spent $16,000 and had nothing to show for it. I felt trapped and extorted but wanted to see if the design created would be approved by the village so I brought the designs to them prior to resolving with Mr Demotte. They had a question and contacted the firm directly. I was shocked to lean that Mr Demotte told a Village official that I had not paid for his work and did not have the right to use his design due to the “balance”.

I am now filing grievances with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Affairs and will have to go to court to receive my $16,000 back from the firm if they don’t refund it. I think they've done this type of thing before and unless this firm is the last one on the planet I wouldn't use them. Really bottom of the barrel. More...
