Q&As

At Shona care we believe that care matters and we are committed to providing the highest quality home care so that our customers can remain in their own homes.

Before starting my business, I was a social worker in the local authority and voluntary sector. I worked alongside care agencies and witnessed some good and some very bad practice. I saw carers being treated without respect for what they do and paid poorly.

As a social worker, I reached a point where I was frustrated by not being able to progress my career, or support people in the way in which I felt they deserved to be supported. I had little autonomy to work in a way that I felt was real social work. I worked with some fantastic people who do some amazing work but it was time to make a bold step forward and leave my full-time job for the crazy world of owning and running a homecare agency.
I decided that setting up my own care agency was where I could do my best work. I can support the clients to get the best possible care and support, plus I can ensure that the staff supporting them are well trained, feel valued and respected for the fantastic job they do day in day out.

Shona care is a new provider , we are passionate about providing high standard care and support to individuals. Our staff are trained, competent and confident to do their job well.

At Shona care we offer bespoke services suitable for our clients needs .

At Shona care we can confirm we are complying with government guidance on managing the risks of Covid 19.

Services

Shona Care is a new local provider of home care services. We specialise in working with customers and their families who require social care in their own homes. We offer a unique service of tailored care visits from check-in visits to full live-in support.

At Shona Care we understand that to be able to take good care of your loved one means taking good care of yourself. Time to rest and recharge is essential so that you can continue to give your best care. We recognise the importance of easy access to high quality respite care that gives you the assurance you need.

Short breaks can be of great benefit to the person you care for too. They offer the person the opportunity to do something a bit different from their usual routine and the chance to meet new people.

We can provide respite care and support for people with complex needs in the comfort of their own homes. Our services range from a sitting service for a couple of hours to 24 hour live-in care. We offer personalised care and support, so you and your loved one have the service that you want, in the way you both want it.

Our reliable, compassionate staff are fully trained, so that you have the peace of mind you need to take that much needed break.

Our home care service is tailored around each individual customer. At Shona Care, we are there to support you to continue living safely in your own home, surrounded by your belongings and memories.
At Shona care we will:

Helping you start the day; getting up, washed, dressed and having a good breakfast
Support with medication; remind and assist you in taking medicines, as well as collect or return medication from your pharmacy or dispensing GP surgery
Mealtime; prepare meals with or for you and assist you at mealtimes
Outings; collect your pension for you or with you, shop with you or help you to make a shopping list, go to the shops, plus come back and put it all away
Household; help with your laundry or ironing and keep your home clean and tidy
Social outings; support you with social activities like going out for a walk, attending a day centre, visiting friends or family or going to your church or club
Personal care; a little pampering when you need it – the occasional visit to organise bathing, clean clothes, fresh bedding and a thoughtfully prepared meal before bedtime
At the end of each day, some help with getting ready for bed

The care professional is on duty throughout the night for a minimum of eight hours. This is the best support option if you or a loved one wakes several times perhaps being disorientated or needing to go to the bathroom. If you wake at regular intervals during the night to change position due to injury, or if you have to administer medication at regular intervals, this is likely to be the best choice for you.

The waking night care professional is there at your side as and when you need them for the duration of the night, providing a high level of expert support.
