THE BOSS WAS HELPFUL BUT THE ASSESSOR WAS OVER-INFLUENCED BY MY FRIEND AND MUCH TOO EXPENSIVE

29 May 2020

Posted on behalf of Fiona in Dorset, May 2020 I give this service a 5 star rating Our Mum has had Live-In care for about 4 years. Her Alzheimer’s deteriorated rapidly after our Dad passed away. My sister and I live locally (3 miles away) and our brother lives on the North Coast of Scotland. Regardless of location, due to families and fulltime jobs none of us were able to look after Mum ourselves. We found a local company and for three years we had excellent consistent care for our Mum. The handful of carers all drove and we provided a car for their use. Visits to local gardens, National Trust venues and daily walks were all part of her routine. Unfortunately, due to these carers moving on to new jobs, we ended up with a plethora of different carers. Most of whom stayed for one or two weeks, didn’t drive and our Mum went rapidly downhill again, both mentally and physically. This was also taking a strain on my sister and myself. We were having to do the shopping (no access to shops from the village without a car) and even got called over in the early hours of the morning as Mum was “refusing” to go to bed. A couple of times we got a really good carer for a few weeks, but they then left the company. Having thought about moving care providers and not knowing anywhere with a good enough CQC and good local reputation I was reading a local free magazine on the train, late in January, whilst heading to London for a conference. There was an advert for a company I had never heard of; “Promedica24”. It sounded good and I had no better option. Things couldn’t get worse for our Mum (or us !). So I phoned Mark. Mark quickly explained Promedica24’s business structure, care structure, recruitment and placement and it all sounded great. I pointed out that without getting a driver at least 80/90% of the time there was no point in the hassle of moving. Mark felt very confident they would be able to provide a driver. Less than 3 weeks from my first conversation with Mark, we’d had a 1:1 assessment of our Mum’s needs, I gave two weeks notice to the previous company, and negotiated with them to allow Kasia (Promedica24) to observe their last carer with Sonia for 24 hours before taking over herself. Kasia had had an awful journey from Poland. Very long and very delayed (this was the start of the international COVID-19 crisis (soon to become a pandemic). In less than a week we noticed the difference in our Mum and ourselves. Our Mum was far more settled with the calm attitude of Kasia. My sister and I were not getting so many requests for assistance. Everything seemed in order. A third party care provider (whom we have used for about 18 months) was giving Kasia her two hour daily break. All was going smoothly. Then came the recommendation that all those with underlying health conditions or those over 70 were to self isolate for 12 weeks. This meant the cover carers were still visiting daily but my sister and I couldn’t pop over once or twice a week to visit any more. Promedica24 had their workload increased due to the pandemic and in a phone call just over a week into isolation, I asked Tracey about a second carer . . . . . .yes, I knew it would cost more, but we have calculated the difference for 12 weeks of two carers compared to the daily cover care and because of Promedica24’s discounted cost for a second carer, it is feasible for us to do this. So Ewa joined Kasia early in April and they have been working between them to look after our Mum, do the shopping, getting her out for short (safe) local walks and not having other people coming to the house. My sister, brother and I keep in touch with Kasia and Ewa (and our Mum) via a WhatsApp group. We get to see photos of our Mum outside, playing with some stacking beakers, colouring a piece of paper and all the things we can’t currently be involved in. She is always smiling or laughing. We still can’t believe how lucky we were to have come across Promedica24 when we did, and for Mark, Tracey and the rest of the team to get not just one, but two, carers looking after our Mum so quickly. In January, we had been looking at local Care Homes. We don’t even want to think about what would have happened if we had pursued that route instead . . . . . . . More...

I just wanted to share my personal experience of Promedica and the care they provide for my mother - Following a life changing stroke one year ago my mum spent 6 weeks in hospital, then 5 months in a care home until we could find her a more suitable house to call home. I contacted Mark at Pro-Medica and he was so helpful and kind. I felt that he truly took an interest in what would be best for mum and helped supply her with someone who could help her settle in to her new home. I was not disappointed! The first carer mum had turned that new space into a home and settled mum into a regular routine. Mum now has her second carer and she is absolutely amazing. We feel so secure in knowing that mum is very safe in her care. She truly has mum’s best interests at heart, and looks after every single detail when we are not there to assist. Mum thinks the world of her, and whilst it has not been an easy journey over the past year, she has made the situation a lot more satisfying for mum. She is an exemplary carer and we feel truly blessed to have such a lovely person looking after mum. Daughter, Pimperne , Dorset, March 2020 More...
