We are in a very interesting moment, one filled with potential. Contemporary issues of economic activity, energy use, environmental sustainability, education, globalization are all centrally effected by the choices we make in the things we build.

My wife and I owned a cottage on a small lot that was in my family for 70 years. It had been flooded too often, and we had no choice but to rebuild. We had seen examples of Craig's aesthetic in our neighborhood and decided to call him. We began with a very basic design to use as a summer weekend cottage to get out of New York City. As the project progressed, however, we fell in love with the space that he created and the way the light played on the inside. The back deck captured the beautiful trees in the backyard that I had watched grow and the front looked down the street onto the Long Island Sound. He created a space that we enjoy being in. It is modern while at the same time fitting into a street where all the other homes are very traditional. Neighbors accept it. Craig worked very hard to balance our evolving desire to upgrade our home as we loved it more and more with the need to be cost conscious at the same time. More...

Craig Newick, Newick Architects designed a full service bar for me at my home. Total cost: between 50,000 and 100,000 dollars.
It is a contemporary marvel made of oak, stainless steel and granite. His firm previously designed a replacement deck for my home, constructed with ipe and stainless steel elements. Craig is a very talented designer, and he has introduced design elements into these two projects that I don't think I would have imagined. I look forward to working with him on future projects and recommend him highly.

I have worked with Newick Architects for the past 10 years. Craig's eye for detail is always presenting something that you did not expect. It could be the placement of the trim or how the light moves across the room. Once you have worked with this firm you will be entering your project to see what detail presents itself next. What ever it is your eye will be pleased. More...

I loved working with Craig. First he has an amazing sensibility. His style is unique, but simple and totally accessible. He's quick with an idea and even faster with solutions. He was very responsive whenever I needed to talk to him and followed through until the very last detail was complete. I would absolutely use him the next time we are lucky enough to have a project so I'm sure it goes without saying that I highly recommend him as well! More...

His work is characterized by concise intelligence. It is well thought out, functional, and most importantly, aesthetically pleasing down to the finest detail.
He listens carefully to his clients needs. A particular strength is his extensive knowledge, interest, and use of various materials.
I have recommended him to several friends. All have been thoroughly satisfied with his understanding of the project and its resolution.

I engaged Newick Architects to design the renovation and reconstruction of my home. I believe it was a very good client/architect relationship.
Additionally, we partnered with a contractor of my choice and it became a fruitful 3-way collaboration. (In fact, the architect and contractor have worked together on numerous projects subsequent to my introduction.)
I researched over 60 architects before selecting Newick Architects, and did so because I believed we shared an aesthetic sensibility, which was borne out by the project's successful fruition.

How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Garages can be filled with significant issues as we analyze them for conversion to habitable space - especially if they are detached structures. They are often built in the cheapest possible way - without true foundations for instance - which makes adding to them vertically is not possible.
What do you love most about your job?
We make beautiful things. People don't realize that if the right team is assembled projects outcomes can be surprising and effecting - quality comes from intent, but also effort and creativity.
We want great problems to solve.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I like most getting involved with projects before a lot of assumptions have been made. The best way to determine great outcomes is to see the project entirely and then apply skill and vision to make it great.
Why should our clients choose you?
Choose us because of our ability to find very fine solutions - regardless of size of project or cost.
To date we have won more than 30 awards for our work. We work hard to make beautiful things.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We could certainly consult on projects remotely and these days there is a lot of communication between makers and the architect in various electronic ways - but the best work is still made between the interactions of people who meet in personal and professional ways.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We have had a great deal more streaming communications - especially during the height of the pandemic.
Now we are just taking care, being prudent and respectful - and still using video communications when appropriate.
